The left-back market…

Prepare your body for Ben Chilwell.

 I just posted this in another thread at almost exactly the same time.

I mean I don't think it's the worst move possible if he's a back-up to somebody like Carreras and it's a loan + option to buy or under £10m and reasonable wages...

The question is what type of age profile will United target given they have the likes of Amass and now Diego Leon as well. Can't be banking on those but that's 2 highly-rated talents in the position, a Dorgu would seemingly completely block their pathway given he's 20 and the amount of money he'll cost. Hence they could potentially target a cheaper, short-term option.

From the few games I have seen Dorgu looks the real deal. Quick, strong, solid technically. Be surprised if we in for him considering we just bought Leon and have Amass. From the premier league Robinson and Ait Nouri would come in and do well.Tyrick Mitchell is another option. Think he has a year left on his contract. Not sure I can take another season of Dalot at Left Back

The main thing that worries me about Dorgu (and full disclosure - I've never watched him play. beyond youtube) is that if you look at his profile on fbref, his passing whether basic completion, progressiveness and volume all look really bad for a fullback. Also his attacking numbers when benchmarked against wingers, looks really poor on paper. He'll be expected to be an attacking tool and used in build up for us so would be hoping for much better in those areas. Don't really want another AWB who is physically elite but whose technical limitations let him down.

I think it depends on what kind of profile we looking for in a WB. Do we want speed and athleticism, whch would be Dorgu or do we want a playmaker type, which would be Ait-Nouri? The we need to consider age profile and given that we bought Leon and have Amass who is a similar age, I don’t think we will buy someone who is 19/20 that will block their development. This could mean Ait-Nouri will likely be our top choice.

Interestingly enough, young Quenda's been playing as a left winger in recent weeks. Perhaps he needs a closer look for the left wingback position too, and not just the right wingback position.

In terms of skill set, you would be hard pressed to come up with superior solutions, with the medium term in mind (we won't be meaningfully challenging for the next 2-3 years, so the medium term should to be a bigger consideration than usual).

If all goes per plan, he could feature as a left wingback, right wingback, left-sided No. 10, right-sided No. 10. That multifunctionality alone sets him apart from certain other options.

Weren’t we linked with Dimarco a month or so go? His technique and ability is elite, if he can handle the physicality of the prem he’d be a great coup

He’s a no brainer depending on price.

Lazio, Dortmund and now Juventus are chasing Renato Veiga. Strongest link have been Dortmund so far.

Could always take Reguilion back for hardly anything...
He honestly can’t be worse than watching Dalot or Mazraoui cut back inside and pass back to the centre back or deepest midfielder every single time they receive the ball and Regulion would actually give us natural width on that side

Good job we didn't sell one of the most promising up and coming left wing backs on the continent this past summer

You need one on each side really, and the profile of the wing back needs to compliment the AM/WF ahead of him.

It's a tough one actually because I don't think the LWF/LAM position is nailed in our team, so in a way it's probably easier to decide what sort of RWB you need to partner with Amad (a fast, athletic ball carrier stretching the pitch as wide as possible).

I think we will send Malacia out on loan, sell Garna and bring in Rayan Ait Nouri. Maybe Malacia ends up at Wolves?

Either way, he’d take us up a few levels having a LWB that can be effective going forward!

This is a good point. The whole Left or Right side need to work in tandem and be complimentary. Let's assume the LAM/LWF will be Mount once he recovers from injury, as Amorim seems to really rate him. Who do we go for then? Maybe Ait-Nouri as Mount is not that much of a playmaker?

I doubt we are going to go for a new RWB considering we have Dalot and recently got Mazraoui, unless Mazroui becomes the 1st choice RCB.

Tyrick Mitchell is nowhere near good enough for United. Pre-injury Malacia was a better player than him.

That will never happen. Too injury prone to be planned as a starter. He'll have his minutes, but eventually get sold for cheap...

Why not? Amorim wouldn't be averse to putting in Bruno as him CM and Mount as LAM. I don't see how this is an impossible scenario

I would happily bring him in. Seemed a good lad and WB would probably suit him as he was decent going forward.

He’d also be super cheap and it would allow us to spend money strengthening other parts of the team.

The comments from Danish posters on Dorgu being a bit shit worries me, especially for what he would cost. For the fees quoted we’d be better off going for Kerkez or Ait Nouri who are both much more proven.

Dorgu looks nothing special in the vids and they are supposed to make everyone look amazing.

I agree with those thinking Kerkez or Ait Nouri may be best as they ‘know the league,’ and would be similar price.

No way you’re after Tyrick if you want a specialist LWB, great defensively but even a lot of Palace fans would like a more attacking option.
True and we been burnt once already with a Palace full back who wasn’t great going forwards

Yeah that feels a bit like they're just throwing names out there. He might have been on a list somewhere when EtH was still in charge and we needed just anyone with a left foot to play LB, but priorities have changed.

Yeah I'm concerned he's not an upgrade either

Alvaro proving how absolutely crap our club is at identifying talent. Selling this guy while buying Malacia and giving Shaw a massive long term contact.

Alvaro up against Yamal is a perfect opportunity for everyone to see what Alvaro could bring us by re-signing him, outside of Salah you could make a case for Yamal being the hardest test in the game for a left back and he’s looked very composed so far and chipped in with the assist too.

Alvaro should be brought back and given 6 months in the team at a minimum. Even if it doesn't work out he's worth at least 40m which we could then use to fud other transfers. Pay the 8m and get him back immediately.

Absolutely, he’s been brilliant all season and is the best player on the pitch tonight whilst up against Yamal but making it look easy.

Fernandez looks excellent

solid, strong, aggressive, brave, technically good albeit in a back 4

bursting through the middle and defending well against Yamal

why the feck did he leave when we had Malacia and Shaw as other options

this club eh

Desperate times if Tyrick Mitchell is really a target, that can only mean United aren't certain they can sell anybody and bring any money in at all. He'd essentially be a repeat of the AWB experiment albeit without the ridiculous transfer fee.

Ait-Nouri is one that definitely would make sense and fit the role to some degree. Not sure how affordable he'd be though unless Wolves go down although they typically have been a selling team of course. But could be anywhere from £45-60m I think if they are still in the PL next year which is a big outlay for one position in a squad with so many needs.
