The left-back market…

The most frustrating thing about this is that I really rated Malacia . He was tenacious and seemed to have reasonable quality on the ball.

Just awful luck.

If Madrid sign Frimpong and Davies along with Mbappe and the midfield options they already have, it’s difficult to see any side get close to them for the next few years.

He'll be 17 in a few weeks. Won't be surprised if he features as a sub in some of the easier games.
Is he that good to be fast tracked? I think AwB is back soon so it'll be Dalot LB Wan Bissaka RB for the end of the season.

Their midfield would need rejigging and I could actually see them struggling a bit with trying to fit in all the attacking talent .

It would be glorious when it works but I could definitely see few teams match them in CL .

He’ll probably be fast tracked next season

Tchouameni, Camavinga and Bellingham doesn’t need a whole amount of rejigging. Valverde, Cebellos and Guler aren’t bad options as backup either.

It's much of muchness with question marks on each and every one .

I’d love us to have such question marks over our midfield.
Because we are shit ask Madrid's supporters are they fully confident with their Midfield options if Kroos also decides to call it a day .

There's really not though, we've been without a LB the entire season, it's 100% going to be a priority, the management isn't going to risk another season like this.
Exactly. It would be naive to not make it a priority. We're extremely unlucky that both Licha and Luke Shaw are injury-prone. So, by prioritizing a LB instead of going for 2 CBs would take pressure off Luke Shaw without downgrading him since he could also play as a LCB when Licha isn't available (which he's been a lot recently as you know). For me, much more important than a RW or CM.

1. DM
2. RCB
3. LB
4. backup CF
5. RB or CM

that'd be my current priority list

Madrid fans used to complain about their attacking options when they had Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema playing up top.

I take their concerns with a strong pinch of salt.

Tyrick Mitchell would be a good punt. Tall, 24 year old, EPL proven and he's got 1 year left in his contract.

Taking into account how City have made use of Ake and Gvardiol, the lack of obvious options, I think we should be looking at players like Bastoni and Inacio. Maybe even Colwill considering Chelsea might be in a difficult spot with FFP.

These players would also be good options for us if Lisandro are injured.

In other words, replace two CBs, probably Varane and Lindelof, with two CBs. One of them a young and flexible left footed player who can be an inverted LB.

One of the early briefings said we'd be looking at players with expiring contracts so this could be a good shout.

We're struggling to meet FFP requirements, very unlikely we're gonna have massive money to spend on a LB unless we completely ignore other areas.

Let's give Lindelof a few games first before we work out if we need to spend
He's absolutely diabolical as a LB, looks completely out of place, he's really slow and contributes nothing to attack, he's so bad that I wouldn't be surprised if we start playing Amrabat as a LB again.

We definitely need a player there as both Malacia and Shaw seem to have struggles with injuries, we can’t have another season like this.

It all depends on what a manager wants from that position. These are my picks regarding the different roles.

Inverted full-back:
  • Quentin Merlin (unfortunately, signed for Marseille recently)
  • Melvin Bard (Nice)
Overlapping machine:
  • Pervis Estupinan (Brighton)
  • Antonee Robinson (Fulham)
Wide centre back:
  • Piero Hincapie (Leverkusen)
  • Levi Colwill (Chelsea)

We're not going to prioritise a replacement in this summer window - we're just not. Too many other areas.

And if we're waiting on summer in 2025 you would hope between now and then Amass would have had a few chances in the first team (even if it's just on tour) and we can see whether he's going to save us dipping into the market.
He’s 16.

16!

Hincapie would probably have been my first choice given his speed and versatility. Short enough that his teammates won't get all confused when they can't see over their LCB's head all of a sudden too.

Unfortunately he's struggled to get into the team at Leverkusen this season and I wonder how much of that is down to his injury last summer. We probably don't wanna be going near anybody with even a slight fitness concern after the year we've had.

Levi Colwill would be a nice way of continuing our proud tradition of giving Chelsea lots of money.

Shaw is a top top player when fit problem is he’s rarely fit. We need to strengthen at LB in the summer for sure. We have such a poor squad make up at the moment.

Should just fast track Harry Amass, worked with Garnacho and Mainoo, why not just go mental with promoting the youth?

This is what I’ve said all season, Amass is by far the best left back of his age or around that age of any in the country and Shaw was playing regularly for Southampton at 17 so don’t see why Amass can’t play the odd game or get minutes at 17 next month as if you’re good enough you’re old enough.

Jesus lads. Stop trying to break him before he’s ready! He’s only been at United a short time and you want to chuck him into PL football? We need a solution who could handle it necessary a full season in the PL if shaw were to get an injury requiring up to a year out. Amass, as a boy, because that’s what he is, can not handle a season where he may have to play every week in the PL. let the lad find his feet for gods sake

I fully agree. I'd rather bring someone like Mitchell to add to Shaw and Malacia. This would allow us to loan Amass. Once back he'll slot with the big boys. Let's face it, I very much doubt that Shaw's career at top level will be as long as Gaz's or Irwin's.

Yeah, I chose Hincapie due to his versatility, he can play both LCB and LB positions depending on circumstances and he is comfortable playing in channels due to his pace.

Of course we should stay away from any player with fitness concerns, that’s what brought us this situation. But I didn’t get the impression that Hincapie is that kind of concern, more that he had the “bad luck” of Leverkusen having a great run without him and having a hard time getting back into that starting lineup. Fit and available, he would be a great option for our squad.

I see where you’re going with Colwill and it’s legit, but I was so impressed with his performances on loan in Brighton, and national team that season too, that I can’t judge him given how dysfunctional Chelsea is at the moment.

Mitchell? Heads gone, can’t think right now who that is?

I agree. Can visualize him bombing down the left flank whipping crosses in.
Estupinian or wild card Alfie Doughty
I wouldn't be against that as I've been impressed every time I've watched him. However isn't he primarily a wing back rather than a left back, or is that just the position he's being tasked with at Luton? I don't know anything about his career before this season.
