The John Murtough Era

Don't give them any ideas. They are going to make Fletcher the DFO.
I’m convinced that Fergie has foisted his favourite sons on us - Fletcher the DOF-in-waiting and McTom, our midfield general.

I think the sons are stupid. The empire was built by Malcolm. He’s gone and his sons haven’t done anything to show that they know what they are doing.
My sentiments exactly. Two aging trust-fund brats that are cosplaying as “businessmen”. Avram looks like a grandad still stuck in his clubbing days, and Joel looks like he’s trying to convince people he’s smart like his dad (spoiler: he isn’t). Instead of getting the right people to run the club, they stuck with Woodward and his sycophants like Arnold and Murtog (came in with Moyes but ingratiated himself to Woodward).

He's absolutely loving the attention, isn't he?

It’s an incredibly innocuous anecdote, but someone I know mentioned to me a few weeks back that Murtough was in his mates restaurant drinking a 300 quid bottle of wine.

It’s stuck with me that story for some reason, now I can’t help but see him as a poser who is milking his big shot status while he still can.

Let me guess, the wine was produced from United fans tears?

Want him to succeed badly..
He also hates Zoom more than anyone in this world, this guy flies around for anything.

So far he's known for assembling an even worse squad than the squad that had our worst ever PL season and having a passive debut window, during a summer that was absolutely crucial towards our short term long term ambitions.

All while our direct rivals have all strengthened and the top teams have gone from strength to strength, Liverpool and Citeh had 6 B'Dor nominees each FFS.

The 'new' front office have made themselves out to look like amateurs so far and I have zero belief from what they've shown, that they can turn things around or make the moves necessary to get us out of this trophyless run.

Bar selling the club to new owners, it's getting awfully difficult to picture us being relevant at the big boys table over the next few years.

The gap has never looked so vast and we look woefully unequipped to stem the tide or reverse the dip...

Considering the salary he is getting it sounds rather cheap to be honest.

His credibility and (hopefully) job is on the line this summer.

We made a real hash of things so far. But the window hasn't closed yet.

If he can bring in FDJ, Rabiot AND another forward then we might be looking decent.

But we once again look amateurish in finding our peripheral targets late and also relying too much on the input of Ten Hag.

Our scouts/recruitment team NEED to be able to recommend lesser known players who can blossom into stars in Ten Hag's system.

Its criminal how badly run we are in that department.

Where's the strategy lads? Where the f-k is it?

FFS we're signing Rabiot from Juventus trash bin not Zidane.

The man is a terminal bellend.

The most humane thing to do is put him, and everyone else, out of their misery by jettisoning him as far away from the club as possible. Woefully under qualified and inept and has screwed up our most important window in a decade.

Genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if he’s been conned into paying 60 million for Pogba or something while he was in Turin!

The man’s an absolute biff

Not saying John has failed it's still too early to give an accurate assessment but Murtough seems to suffer from the same limitations that Woodward has and that's not being primed with experience for the magnitude of the role he is currently occupying.

Ragnicks best influence is in the role Murtough has. Those comments about support for Ole are ridiculous given that Solskjaer was incrementally getting worse with time. One of the more pressing issues is also who's replacing Matt Judge. Been reported the club approached Dan Ashworth but he is more interested in Newcastle proposals because it's a more prominent and hands on role.

Realistically if in 24-36 months the club are showing no visible signs of improvement before even thinking about getting rid of ETH, Murtough should have to go in those circumstances. He's already began with a relatively poor start and that is from the team missing top four.

Said it two months ago before the window opened that the signs were already visible with Murtough being given the responsibility of being a footballing director. Objectivity is a great barometer to assess change. Woodwards lack of strategic direction is an exact replica of the club's guidance under the hand of Murtough who seemingly comes across as being ETH employee rather than someone who's more authoritative.

A poor summer should without question throw his suitability for the job into the air.

He looks like a half-wit. WTF is he wearing?!

How can the options for a striker be Icardi, Aubameyang, and Morata? There really is no strategy or policy at all there.

This guy is turning to be an absolute clown on apr with Woodward or maybe even worse. At least with Woodward we had some very good transfer windows, even if most of the signings didn't turn out as we'd hoped. Now we have nothing. Can we just get an actual DOF with experience, please? Mitchell is available. Why is this club all about nepotism?

Campos at PsG showing how to get things done. Smart signings is something we are allergic to. Not sure why we appoint people who have feck all experience in the DOF role.

Mitchell is not available he's with Monaco atm. Michael Edwards is free but last I heard he's taking time off from football to be with his family.

Unfortunately Michael Edwards will have Chelsea and their ambitious new owner chomping at the bit for his signature the moment he signals an interest in getting back into the game...

I'm sure we can easily prize him away from that position. He seems to talk with great interest when it comes to us. Of course, that ain't happening because this club is run by a bunch of clowns who don't really care who is the best for the job.

Ragnick apparently recommended him for a job with us but we all know what the club thought of his advice

Still can't believe that everyone know we need a big window but so far we only managed to sign a free transfer, reserve LB and overpaid for a CB. We are heading into 2nd game tomorrow with our squad nowhere ready.

And our transfer targets include people like Broberry, Arnautovic, Rabiot. We have been made like a joke with FDJ and Antony pursuit.

Seriously, this guy is worse than Ed.

Love the man but I wouldn't be surprised if he's had a say in these two being given the opportunities they have. Whether it's Fergies favorites or the Glazers (executives with no competence), meritocracy isn't really our thing.

Everton's sport scientist didn't exactly sound like a real job.
How did Murtough and Fletcher climb to this rank?

Ginormous IF though isn't it especially with De Jong looking closer to staying than leaving. Think there is a strong chance of getting Rabiot and a forward but trouble it leaves a space in first XI for the keystone cops.

Murtough was brought in to revamp our extremely outdated football. Instead, somehow he managed to make it worse.

He really seems to have no clue on how to run a football club let alone revamp it to be world class football structure.

We urgently need people with experience who have been there and done that. Not Ed's stooges of Arnold and Murtough.

Fergie has clearly had some influence on how things are run at the club. He was reportedly influential in bringing Ronaldo (and Phelan) back. His comment undermining Ole's decision to not start Ronaldo lost Ole more authority and added to his downfall. And then there's Fletcher's incredible promotion to technical director.

I think it must always have been Murtough and Woodward running the football, too little has changed since Murtough was named Football Director and then there’s the GLARING similarities: new contract for Bruno, long (and failed) chases for players, scrambling for short-term buys / briefing to the media to deflect blame (ETH is running transfers / we’re baffled about criticism / people were really impressed by our ETH interview process / we’re negotiating in Barcelona/Turin right NOW!).

It’s pretty much exactly the same stuff Woodward did, but even less competent. I bet Murtough is the only person in the world who thinks Woodward is “the man”.

Strikes you as the type, doesn't he? Like a guy who's walked into shot of a live show and can't help smile that he's on TV. The lack of seriousness at United, other clubs must see it coming. We are a basket case.
