Was a bit of a mess before the renaming/restructuring of the tournament took place. At times it really wasn’t a great/prestigious competition.

Still, as far as I know, it’s normally considered as a continuous series of tournaments – that is, before and after the renaming. So, the SA Championship and the Copa is basically the same thing.

Was a bit of a mess before the renaming/restructuring of the tournament took place. At times it really wasn’t a great/prestigious competition.

Still, as far as I know, it’s normally considered as a continuous series of tournaments – that is, before and after the renaming. So, the SA Championship and the Copa is basically the same thing.

Think as of 1975, all teams began to participate with many missing out before that due to political reasons. Still the tournament was held in high regards from the 50's on when Brazil won in and practically turning the tide and becoming the best international side shortly after.

It is the same indeed, just rebranded and as you said more organized, and was the sole SA international tournament before that.
