Yeah. you are right. I got it backwards!

I'm glad to see Rats picked but he's a hard one to rate. Firstly it's even difficult to tell his best position — it would probably be a left midfielder, although obviously he also played as a left back a lot (but the starting left back for Dynamo and USSR was usually Demyanenko). One of Lobanovskyi's ridiculous all-rounders. Reminded me of Alba-Mathieu partnership at Valencia (albeit at a higher level, of course) — two players who were equally good at either wing position and interchanged quite a lot.I also rate Corbatta ahead of Rats.
The obvious question is: how did Rattin get on against Charlton in 1966?just a quick reply before the game, no doubt Rattin was quality but thats why i saw when i watched him...in other segments he was pretty damn good, very classy on the ball. Reckon you could get away with it alongside Vidal as he was an absolute beast at his peak but he is here against Sir Bobby of all people + all 3 from the front line are very good dribblers but are also rapid as feck. Could be a problem on the counter.

To be fair Charlton played as an outside left in 1962 and didn't face him directly, did he?Rattin got sent of in the first half for "insulting" the ref, they faced each other in 62' as well and Charlton ran the show.

Yeah, I don't argue with that — it was one of the reasons behind my vote. But its not just their face to face duel that happened, what i saw from Rattin defensive wise there is no way he can deal with a midfielder that will ran at him whole day long.
He did. He played more as a left midfielder but he was pretty versatile — and when Demyanenko moved to the right or was injured or for whatever tactical reason didn't play as a left back Rats usually played as a Dynamo/USSR left back. Started 1988 Euro final as one iirc (and scored the winner in the group game against Netherlands as a LM).Don’t know much about Vasyl Rats but his wiki profile says he was a midfielder. Did he ever play left back?

Cheers mate. Hard luck to you and @Jim Beam
Wasn’t looking forward to the prospect of facing Stoichkov and elkjaer, and even less so Sir Bobby and Rattin
You know you can always count on Arsene Wenger of drafts. Two good reinforcements, Sammer in his position and you are in great spot
I'd say Rats main position was left-midfield, though as harms said he was a versatile player that switched about and covered a lot for Demyanenko and also played centre midfield quite a few times before the emergence of Mikhailichenko. I liked him a lot, he had the high workrate and versatile tactically balanced style for Lobanovsky, but also a high amount of technique and vision in his game, unlike someone like other utility man Andrei Bal or Ivan Yaremchuk on the other side of midfield who were strictly solid system men. He was a good dribbler too and though he didn't score many goals, tended to get important ones.
