The Hurt Locker

It disappointed me that the only time one of the bombs actually exploded and killed the bloke trying to defuse the bomb was at the start, with a bit of a pre-amble involving lots of yelling and a slow-motions sequence.

It meant that during every other one of those bits where he's trying to defuse the bomb, you know it won't go off without a similar build-up.

The whole thing could have been a lot more tense and heart-stopping if the original explosion had happened randomly, and very suddenly. Then in every other one of those scenes you'd have been sitting there bracing yourself for a sudden explosion and wishing the it'd just be over.

Shit film. How the feck did that even get short listed FFS
I agree with you here; it was legit shit. I was fooled by Guy Pearce's and Kate's name in the casting, and that's why I watched it. I was ripped off. The whole thing was made to look like it's the easiest thing in the world.

The acting was amazing though!

Wasn't even that impressed with the acting TBH. The storyline was so unbelievable the acting became secondary. We nearly switched off a couple of time because it was absolute bollox. I can definitely see why so many in the Military were very critical.

Bollocks. It was a brilliant film. The beginning in no way flagged anything about each susequent defusion. I'm sure actual UXB experts could point out some minor technical errors but what it did brilliantly was capture the tension of life and operations in such a war zone. I believe that Raoul who has operated in such a war zone thinks highly of this film which says something IMO.

Expecting this film to be 100% real would be like expecting Midnight Express to be without artistic license.

I have to say that I thought it was pretty good, but there is no way in feck it should have won the Oscar

Did it win? One of the better winners recently but that is saying bugger all. Crash was the worst winning film ever.

Got very boring very quick, just like Inception.

Hear hear. Stopped watching ten minutes in. Actually stopped at around minute two, then spent 8 minutes trying to give the film a chance whilst bemoaning the cultural mass-confusion in the West that allows this kind of effort to garner widespread praise.

It's funny as this western culure is what gave rise to these films, no matter what they say. Tense situations as the main theme of the film, done a hundred times before. Central theme that challenges the way of thinking but just ends up being a heist/con film mixed with Bond type sequences that features characters you couldn't give a shit about, hope they die and feel like you'd have been better off spending your money on a few drinks, been done a hundred times before.
