The Great Real Madrid January Sale

VDV I have no real opinion on, I see him play and I don't see what the big deal is but he only has played a limited and infrequent number of times for Madrid.

Yea but if we gave him games I bet he would do well. I think if we made a offer Real would sell him. Its obvious they have no real plans for him and we need a play maker in the midfield. Tho if his wife does have cancer Utd certainly would have to put them at ease with the help she could get in Manchester. Then again maybe the cancer is just too much and he wont want to leave at all.

He'd never start in midfield for us, because he's lazy, doesn't have the stamina and can't defend.

That means he's competing with Berbatov, and he's obviously going to be second choice there, or he's stuck out on the wing, which makes him a bit useless.

Gago is strange. He can be a good player at times, but then at others... yeah. He has potential, don't know whether he'll fulfil it.

Strange is exactly the word to describe him.

I'm not really sure he knows his role in the team.

He wouldnt need to defend that is what we have Fletch for. Im assuming he would be replacing Scholes and we know he cant defend for shit. Im not sure about his laziness, Ill take your word for it.

Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on here.

A centre mid wouldn't have to defend.

Honestly, I don't know what to say to that.

I understand every player has to defend, guess I worded that wrong but my point was that he cant be any worse than Scholes no?

He can and is.

Scholes is a poor tackler, not defender.

Who do you guys think could fill that roll and that we actually have a chance of getting?

Precisely, you lot have no credible attacking threat within your midfield who will score or create masses of chances, Scholes and Giggs are lingering on whilst Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson and Hargreaves hardly provide an offensive capacity- they may not get 10 goals between them in the league this year. If you went back to 433 you could easily accommodate a Van der Vaart into your side and not lose out defensively.

As Pscholes says, who else are you going to get that you'd be able to secure and for less than £25million who could do a job? Of all the interesting talent you have who are on the brink of regular first team action, none of them seem to be that player in that position you are lacking.

I do think VdV is worth a punt depending on the price, probably a better option than Nani

Would be nice if the MLS could convince Giggs, Neville and Scholes to play a couple seasons in the US.

Never going to happen.. Also I am sure the only reason you want to see that happen is a selfish one because you are from the States yourself?

It's not a position we're lacking, it's a position we're ignoring. It's a bonus not a necessity.

Sneijder in my opinion is not that much better than VDV, but different.

Now, I never liked Sneijder that much so my opinion about him might be a bit influenced by that.

Van der Vaart is a more technically gifted attacking midfielder in my opinion. He can do much more with the ball than Sneijder, who needs more space and time to operate. Sneijder fits in perfectly with Inter's way of playing (and the Dutch way of playing this world cup). Sneijder is a player who has a few very good moments in a game, but who is also often invisible for long periods. In this succesful year of his, most of his good moments were counter attacks he set up or fluke goals he scored.

When Sneijder plays for Holland, Van Persie becomes invisible, while VDV really improves the general play much more in my opinion. He makes other players play better. Sneijder has good vision and a great long ball but when you look at general play, I'd prefer Van der Vaart (who actually did quite well with Real last season when he played).

I also prefer VDV because of the attitude and character. Sneijder is quite egocentric and likes to be the big man in a team. But as I said, I never liked him, so that might affect my judgement a bit.

Sneijder was magnificent in the World Cup. He scored goals and created goals.

VDV did little to break opponents down, and Holland always looked more dangerous when they took off VDV and replaced him with Eljera IMO.

Lass Diarra, Lady Gago, Ezequiel Garay and Kaká, are all players that are being wasted at Real Madrid at the moment - just like in the cases of Robben, Van der Vaart and Sneijder a while ago. Perhaps one or more of them could be the next Madrid reject to make it at another club.

I would personally grab Kaká if he were available for less than 15m.

Any other Madrid rejects we should be paying attention to?

(mods can we please make this the official Madrid rejects thread?)

You want a new thread then? Why would we make a new thread when all the threads are now mega? It would be merged here.

Good comment, though.

Not sure why you'd want a washed up Kaka but hey ho....

Manchester United Line up Sensational Move for Former Liverpool Star from Real Madrid

Another name has been added to the lengthy list of Manchester United midfield targets this morning, with Sir Alex Ferguson linked with a sensational move for Xabi Alonso.

According to Spanish radio station Radio Cadena Ser, the Real Madrid midfielder is the latest man to be earmarked as a replacement for newly-retired Paul Scholes.

Apparently, Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to better the wages that Alonso currently enjoys at the Bernabeu in order to bring the 29 year-old into his squad.

Alonso already has 86 international caps to his name, and started every single match of Spain's successful World Cup campaign in South Africa last summer.

He is currently a pivotal part of Jose Mourinho's plans, having made 52 appearances across all competitions for Real over the course of last season.

A move to the newly crowned Premiership champions would go down terribly with fans of Liverpool, to whom Alonso endeared himself over 5 years on Merseyside from 2004 to 2009.

Just last week, Alonso told Liverpool TV that he still missed life with the Reds, saying "The atmosphere at Anfield is unbeatable."

"I have been privileged enough to live through some special nights there. Those will be in my memory forever and they are difficult to compare to anywhere in the world."

When asked about a potential move back to Liverpool, Alonso was rather cryptic, stating, "It could be a possibility. Never say never."

However, it now seems as if Ferguson will set up negotiations with the player over a potential move back to the other side of the fierce northwest rivalry.

just can't see it happening....

He does look like an ex-footballer nowadays, that's true, but for less than 15m he could still have something to offer. In his last games for Madrid, even though playing as a sub, he still showed some good skills and moves. We wouldn't be getting an awesome player, but a fair amount o experience in the part of the squad in which he need it the most. We did sign Owen, following that logic.

I don't think Fergie will go for him, he will probably spend somewhere else. But I would indeed make a cheeky 13-15m bid for him.

L'équipe seems to think that Inter are making a 30m euro bid for him!
