The First Redcafe NBA Draft

Nash isn't nearly as good a defender as Stockton imo.
He is second only to Magic in my book, but hard to choose him who had only 2 or 3 quite good years feom 95 while Kidd and Nash had their entire career.

I had a tough choice between Kidd and Nash for PG but had Stockton as distant third on my PG choices.

Yeah, the 94-95 thing is causing a lot of confusion atm. I have no idea how the discussions are going to go now.

For us it came down to Nash and Stockton, was a tough choice but his defense made me choose him over Nash, that is all.

Is that the Caf way of saying "" ?? :nervous:. Coz I've heard that statement a couple of times in my brief drafting career only for it to blow up in my face.
Well you can take it any way but I was curious to see how they would lineup. Thats all.

French speakers like the word "Interesting", a term not ironical.

Oh, ok. It's just that for a previous draft I participated in (Cricket), I remember making a slightly off beat team selection and my future opposition said the very same thing. He used that same decision I made to completely discredit my strategy. So can't be too sure you know. :p

I've foregone any actual strategy, and just picking players I like. Strategy is overrated.
I am not choosing arguably my favorite player ever cause he nigh not work well with Kobe.

At the end of the day people who are voting other the ones here will only vote for people they prominently know. So youre winning in that aspect kinda.

Thought you would've gone for another big man if you wanted to build perfectly around Kobe.

Eh, somewhat. I put way too much thought into the footy draft teams. The cricket one I just winged it the whole time, this one is just fun to highlight favourites.

I chose Pau because of his relationship with Kobe (two rings won together and a perfect relationship between them). Really, it is hard to find someone in that position better to combine with Kobe. In addition, Pau is my joint favorite player of all time.

I still have two picks though and one of them will be a big man :)
I'm curious who that is now.

If no-one chooses him until the next pick, I think that I'll pick him anyway and see how things go.

I think Mani's backcourt will get destroyed almost every team. Both are short, far below average defenders. Kidd/Kobe backcourt doesn't make any sense either. Kobe is ball dominant and so is Kidd. Kobe is your best player and won't accept not having the ball in his hands and Kidd is a notoriously bad shooter.

I agree. Very brave to go with Parker and Iverson. I also think that both of them are extremely selfish players, so IMO when he chose one, he needed a PG in the style of Stockton/Nash/Kidd to balance things. As it is, I found them unbalanced in attacking (though both are very good at scoring), and quite bad at defending.

Both fair points especially the second one. Its like if you have Jordan you dont need a pure, specialist PG 'cause Jordan will handle the ball most of the time. Same reason why Kobe and Fisher worked well.

I think it might make sense in the end, if I can get my next two picks right.

I chose Kidd to balance a bit Kobe. I agree that Kidd is a bad shooter (though improved on the second half of his career), but he has shown that he can take the backseat and not shoot at all if needed (see LeBron comments about him in 2008). As the best assist maker in this draft (Stockton at his peak was better, it needs to be said), I think that he can concentrate more on passing the ball, rather than shooting.

In addition, Kidd is arguably the best defensive PG of all time, and Kobe is a very good defender himself, so I think that I already have a great defense in that part.

Kidd vs Nash, was my toughest choice, and I opted for Kidd mostly because of his defensive abilities. Also, I thought that some people might mention (though probably unfairly) that Nash didn't work well with Kobe, so opted for Kidd.

I've got no idea how NBA works apart from picking a ball up and throwing it in a hoop thingy. Bounce some balls around people and star in a movie with cartoon characters.

Yeah thought the same when I saw Parker and Iverson together. Just out of interest, why did you pick Carter? He didnt strike me as the kind of player you would rate highly.

Anyway, if NM can pick the right SG and SF, then it is hard to see him losing.

Carter is such a good player. Especially for the first decade after he came in. Look at this stats. He was averaging well over 20 points a game, 3-4 rebs and 2-3 assists.

We only need you to take Eboue's pick and once MJJ says who he picks you reveal Eboue's pick in the thread

Decent defender, willing passer, great outside shooter. Those are the things I am building my team around. If I am taking a player early they need to be all three of those. Add to that his incredible athleticism and rim attacking and he forces teams to guard Curry and Dirk without doubling.

I found that slightly strange too. I rate Carter high, but I wasn't expecting Eboue to go for him.
