The F1 Thread 2011 Season

Well, it's very similar in many ways. The track layout isn't the problem IMO.

It's not similar in any way. Suzuka is all about aero performance and has one of the best sections in F1 in T1 down to T9 and that's without even mentioning Spoon & 130R (although thats too easy now). Valencia doesn't have a single corner in common with Suzuka, its a flat street circuit that just looks pretty but is incredibly dull to race on.

The track layout is the problem because there is nothing else to blame, Montreal is a street circuit of the same nature and year in year out provides a highlight race of the year.

The True Story of Michael Schumacher's Retirement
montezemolo is a clown. All he wants at Ferrari are yes men. Until he gets a title of his own, the Brawn, Todt, Schumacher era will be remember for those 3 and not for the person that employed them. Those 3 were far more powerful at Ferrari then himself and he signed Kimi basically to say "look, In the end, I run this show and don't you forget it" The only reason stefano is still in a job is because he's Luca's puppet.

The prize for coming 2nd in the Championship should be raised to some 20 odd million. This Championship "battle" is a joke.

Sorry mate, apart from Spoon they are very similar. Valencia is also not a street circuit, the only real one of those is Monaco. It's a normal racing circuit using public roads, no different to Spa, Canada, or say Le Mans. Valencia simply isn't a track that favours aerodynamics at all, more raw BHP and traction. Red Bull is generally accepted as having by far the best aerodynamics, and of the top three teams, Ferrari the worst, yet the Ferraris pushed it today.

I don't know how you even see they are similar, literally no corner is anything like Suzuka. Valencia is a traction circuit, Suzuka is all about mid to high speed cornering. I really don't know why you want to compare it to Suzuka anyway.

And it uses public roads so its still classed as a street circuit.

The bit where you contradict yourself by saying Valencia isn't an aero circuit therefore nothing like Suzuka?

If Suzuka isn't an aero circuit then there arn't any on the calendar.

The True Story of Michael Schumacher's Retirement

Good article, but I'm not sure if I believe that Rossi was ever in line to actually drive for Ferrari. Him testing for them was more of a publicity stunt in my opinion. And just skim read it so far, but it doesn't mention that Brawn was already on his way out, so they didn't need to "break the axis"

Thats not what I said though, I meant that is you don't consider Suzuka to be an aero circuit then you can't consider the rest of them either. Most of the corners are mid to high speed therefore an aero circuit.

The Weaste and Leg-End debate is even more boring than this title race!

Spa is an example of one that is.

I wouldn't call Spa an Aero circuit. I'd call it a drivers circuit. Looking at my iracing telemetry and setup from Williams f1, its actually quite low downforce.
Hence the reason that Ferrari and Force India were able to lead the race at Spa in 09.

I wouldn't really call Valencia an aero circuit either but like Monaco its very much a mechanical grip circuit.

Suzuka on the other hand is all about downforce and suspension setup.

Algersuari (spelling?) asleep in the cockpit during P2

What's this about finishing the race in the pits to overtake someone as it's quicker in the pit lane than on the circuit? I had to switch it off at work just as they mentioned it, something to do with entering the pits on the last lap because it's quicker to the finish line.

from what i can see the new pitlane entry bypasses the entire luffield corner so they would be quicker going into the pits instead of going around luffield, oops just a bit of a design flaw there!

The FIA cause these problems themselves by fannying around with the regulations during the season. We had the change of regs regarding engine mapping recently which was openly discussed as an effort to slow the Red Bulls down, and the changing of the regs on exhausts was with the same intention, it's so stupid it beggars belief.

The same thing was happening with the double diffuser issue in 09, they tried to change things to slow down the guys who had found an advantage through something the other teams hadn't thought of. It stinks, quite frankly. If you're slower because the other teams have been cleverer than you; tough! That's the name of the game ffs, changing the rules to try and slow down the faster cars because they are running away with it is pathetic.

If the FIA want to change their regulations to remove the ability to do something a particular way then fine, do it for the 2012 technical regulations.

is the new pit lane exit a tunnel like in abu dhabi? just noticed it now and it seems to be some strange hill or something

okay nevermind just saw another camera angle where it looks normal, strange! one of the camera shots makes it look like the pit lane exit in abu dhabi and another one looks normal

im struggleing with this new layout :( is the new pit lane between club and abbey? every time i see it i get confused!

I agree with you 100%.
BBC have just said that its not a case of designing a better car than everybody else , its a case of designing a car that exposes the loopholes better than everybody else.
F1 has always been like that , teams trying to get on over everybody else.

Its great to hear Murry Walker in P3 , He is the voice of F1.

has anyone else noticed that there is no grid positions marked out at the new pitlane? is this not an issue for the start of the race? love Murray Walker though

Natalie ; In other news Murray Walker is trending worldwide

Murray; Oh? whats that mean then?

To be fair, he is 87!

so im predicting vettel to be off the pace in Q1 and Q2 and then to get pole in the dying seconds of Q3, as per ususal

He probably will be, he doesn't need to try in Q1 and Q2 as long as he's safely through. Then he will come out in Q3 and respond to everybody else in as little time as he can without wasting his tyres.

It's not like he does it by fluke, it's an effective plan. I'm surprised more don't do it.
