The Evil Within Trailer

Also, why are matches limited despite the fact he's carrying a lantern that seems to never go out, and why does a knife to the head immediately kill zombies despite them walking around with blades impaling their brains.

Just played a friends copy of this game.
scary as feck

Reminds me of the first resident evil too

"Are you alright?"

"Are you alright?"

"Are you alright?"

"Are you alright?"

"I'm glad you're alright"

"Are you alright?"

This in a space of a minute while in a fire fight.

Clunky as feck.

It's between this and Shadow of Morder tomorrow. Still can't make up my mind..

I got my copy today. So looking forward to giving it a try despite the mixed reviews.

It's gotten great reviews for the type of game that it is. People just don't get scared as easily these days. Outlast got mixed reviews too but I thought it was fecking brilliant at what it set out to do. Scare you shitless.

Having a look at this now. Straight away at least the shadows are better than Alien (the character models are a bit better too).

If you are playing this on PC though, do away with those shit borders and the 30fps cap though. Ughhh.

Right so I laboured with this for a few more hours and can confirm it's utter shite.

Its like they've tried to collate all horror games into one and have made a royal mess of it. The first chapter tries the whole outlast/Alien game of cat and mouse and the following chapters just seem to poorly follow the resident evil 4 formula of shooting zombies, which would be OK if it's fun but it's not. The horrible controls and glitchy framerate help kill off any enjoyment.

Speaking of which why does this game look like utter shite? It uses the rage engine and on my PC with maxed graphics on 1080p it looks like a PS2 game, utterly disgraceful for an alleged triple A game. Not to mention the appalling frame rate which is just about the scariest thing in this game - that's right, the game isn't scary either. It's full of cheap, horror clichés which are recycled. I also went ahead and Googled the rest of the plot since I couldnt bother to persevere till the end and I'm glad I didn't - what a embarrassing pile of shite, I guessed the direction they were going with from the very beginning and they still managed to botch it up. Not to mention that none of the characters were likeable and had voice acting worse than final fantasy ffs.

Shit game, 4/10 at best.

Yes, it's largely turd. Like I say though, at least they have got the shadows reasonably right *cough*Alien*cough*.

The shooting is wank isn't it? And how come you can blow half their brain away and they come at you, yet a simple knife in the back of the head kills them? It's incredibly inconsistent all over. Though the enemy models are at least a little interesting.

The models are actually a load of shite and make no sense IMO. Granted its a horror game and you can ignore the realism aspect but it makes no sense that a knife to the back of the head kills them despite them walking around with sharp poles impaling their head. In fact very little makes sense in this gameplay or plot wise. Yeah lets not waste our finite matches burning corpses, especially when there's a fecking endless source of fire in the lamp you're carrying out which never seems to go out, because using that would make too much sense right?

It depresses me that this has gotten solid reviews, if this had been released a decade ago it would have been universally lambasted. Just shows how much standards have dropped or how the main review sites have pretty much all transitioned into ad space merchants.

That's the point I always make, standards gamers find acceptable these days is just shocking. It's like minds have been wiped and people don't realise far better was done years ago, so why settle for less? Bioshock:Infinite was a big one for that, in the 90's and 00's that would have been torn apart for how shit the gameplay is and how you can't touch any of the environment.

The Evil Within Review (Rant) - Worth a Buy?:

I've just started playing this now and can only echo some of the sentiments in this thread: it's an abysmal game. I'm a sucker for horror which is why I bought this against better knowledge. Big mistake. The gameplay is simply horrendous. It's clunky as hell, the camera is utterly broken, the letterbox format is just a complete WTF, combat is frustrating and unenjoyable, it doesn't even look good at all, in fact I'm struggling to think of even a single positive. I've just completed another playthrough of Silent Hill 2 before playing this and I'd swear The Evil Within feels like the older of the two. There are no excuses for this shit and I feel reviewers have been extremely kind with their scores. It doesn't deserve anything above a 5/10, if even that. I'm pretty fecking pissed with myself for throwing away €70 on this garbage.

To anyone reading this: stay as far away as humanly possible from this abomination.

 I really like it.

To be fair it only cost be £14 but I actually really enjoy the creepiness of the story line and how discomforting the camera angle is.

Started this today

It's fairly average and I'm on chapter 3 only

Will try and stick with it as it's been collecting dust now for the past 10 months

Please tell me it's a very short game

Really enjoyed the game, it's no Silent Hill, but I still had a lot of fun with it....(in the end)
You really need to hit chapter 9 or so before it gets good. I kinda found it ok at first but the story doesn't really explain much until the later chapters. Once it all comes together though, it turned out to be one of the better games I've played current gen.

Not really. You'll get bored soon enough.

Very poor game which is basically a mish-mash of all the bits cut from the early version of Resi 4 because they were shit. It's a miracle that game was so good in the end! (It took numerous cancellations to happen though). Such a shame too, because a real sequel to RE4 would have been very welcome :(

Finally got into this yesterday and played a large chunk. Up to chapter 11

It actually does get better as it goes along. Good atmosphere decent story but Controls and combat are fairly poor and really should be a lot better
