The consoles and games thread

Just for the potential Weaste is talking? Don't be fooled man. If you want a game console with great games on it now and more coming in September and the holidays buy 360. The games mentioned here such as Killzone, GT5 and Metal Gear Solid will come out, if I'm not mistaken, in the second half of 2008. Buy it when the good games are out and I'm sure that by that time the price will have fallen. Btw Weaste have you seen the pic where they show that the trees used in GT5 are 2D? They look like a green cross from the top. If I can find that pic again I will post it.

Edit: The pic is from a comparison of GT5 with PGR4

What the hell do 2 low res stills show? You are also comparing apples and oranges - ones a simulation the other an arcade racer. GT5 has about another year of development still left in it, and have you ever heard of a placeholder?

In any case, if it looks right in the game you shouldn't give a crap if the trees were made up with painted elastic bands. Are you going to show us the currently awful rear view mirrors now?

I'll save you the effort.

You also conveniently forget that GT5 is rendered in 1080p at 60 frames per second.

Is the PGR then?

Not bad at all.

It's rendered in 1080p and at 60fps, do you have any proof to the contrary? No! Because that it what the current version is doing.

Well it's just one car at a time Weaste. Let's see if they can do it with 8 cars. Weaste do you work for Sony? I mean yeah its good but not that good, not as good as the 360. Oh and Weaste not everyone buys console for the technology they have inside but rather to play the games they have. Also that low res photo was only to the trees which are 2D.:boring:

as i said, this thread is for the gamers. If you want a talk about rendering or the Sony V MS debate again, take it to another thread.

Now, has anyone played BIOSHOCK yet?

Did you ever try one with a wheel rather than a joypad? Apparently, when these things are put into full simulation cabinets with the wheel, cabinet motion, peddles all giving real type feedback, the experience totally changes.

yeah i have but the crux of the problem is that driving games bore me senseless

1 car? That was GT:HD - a demo, GT5:Prologue is doing it on certain tracks with 16 cars. If it became a problem, they could simply pull it down to 720p or 30fps (bringing it down to XB360 standards in terms of resolution rather than continuing along the 1080p line) which many people would prefer for many reasons, but I'll let you find out what they are. Shit, they could even render it in 900x1080 and scale it horizontally, but they are not doing so.

And no, I do not work for Sony as you very well know.

Yes, I've played played and it's absolutely great. You can read the reviews for it as well if you want.

IMO gaming in general has got worse over time. Everything is all so samey now, very little innovation around. The number of FPSs is quite honestly a joke. I blame Doom and chunky pixels for it.

Reviews, never trust a review. Anyway, instead of us trudging off to find and read reviews, why not give us your opinions on the game?

No problem Weaste. Bioshock is one of the best FPS I hav ever played. It has every great graphics, gameplay and storyline. You will be on guard the whole time expecting a splicer to come out of nowhere. It's tense, horrifying and diverting. The environments are very good giving out that 50's and 60's sense extremely well. The storyline unfolds very well making you a part of the story. It's a very good game but the absence of online might upset some. However, I haven't finished it so I can't have a complete picture of the game. Of course, you can download the demo and see for yourselves.

Edit: I forgot to tell you that you have moral choices and choices of how to play the game. You play through the game in many different ways.

it looks seriously weird..

I've seen the bit at the start with the plane crash and it was quite impressive

some of the weapons look fun. eg. laser trip wires

its a shame theres no multiplayer mode as far as im aware

Well everything on the PC will be better and faster (framerate) but you will need a good PC which cost a lot more than a console so it's your choice. If you have a good GPU get it on the PC. Also you'll never beat keyboard-mouse combo with a joypad!

Really? There are no enhancements at all for the PC version if you have a monster graphics card, standard HDD, etc?

Of course Weaste a monster graphics card and all the goods will make a big difference. Plus you've got a keyboard and a mouse to play a FPS the way you should.

That's small details, really...

Well playing at 1920*1200 (or even at 2560*1600, although I'm not too sure about that) with ultra realistic effects, v-sync on and a framerate of 60 and above is not exactly small details. For instance on the 360 you've got 2 options to lock the framerate to 60FPS or unlock it. When you lock it you've got 60FPS and great graphics but a lot of screen tearing as v-sync is disabled. When you unlock it you have everything with a lower framerate (noticable) and some users experiance a dramatic fall of the framerate when the Big Daddy approaches - I haven't witnessed that though and everything is normal for me.

I've played it, but it has the same problem as too many games these days, it's simply too easy.

That's for computer maniacs, who would sacrified their life for slightly better graphic resolutions.

ive heard its going to take a beast of a machine to play it on anyway. Anyone know min specs ?

Minimum requirements for Bioshock PC

Pentium 4 2.5 GHz (single core) with 1 GB RAM

DirectX 9.0c compliant card with 128 MB RAM
(NVIDIA 6600/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550), Must support Pixel Shader 3.0

Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.

Internet connection required for activation.

Bioshock is immense, and yes it's a much better experience on a decent PC.

However, like I said in my thread on the game, it's severely dumbed down for the console crowd, it's a decent successor to System Shock 2, but like Deus-Ex 2, it's lost a lot of it's unique touches to accommodate the attention span of the average console-gamer.

Still, I'd recommend it to any gamer who either likes FPS's or story-driven/atmospheric games.

Isn't Halo Tres coming out in a couple of weeks?

26th of September. Mass Effect is coming out too then. Both of them are AAA games. It's like having Rooney and Ronaldo playing at the same time for the same team... Wait a minute...;)
