The comprehensive Ronaldo thread

I assume everyone by now understands that everything that pillock says is designed to attract attention? Wish everyone would stop giving him what he craves
Agree. He loves winding up people. The guy is a complete moron!

That's kind of weird he jetted off immediately to RM training ground. I would think he would rest a bit. Yeah i know he was riding the bench but this is quick.

Honestly fair play to him.

I have a general dislike to Ronaldo because of his attitude, and I have since 2007 when he was still a United player, but I respected him on the field.

I remember seeing a story about Kobe Bryant how after they had just won a major final, one player decided he will go at 11am the next day when other players were taking the day off after winning.

The player was like he will impress the coach or whatever. When he got the training he sees Kobe in the locker room he's just showered, he had been there since 6am after a major win because he wanted to win the next trophy.

These guys are next level, Ronnie too, even though he's a massive twat.

Portugal are out, he's had a shit year, the loss of his child which I just can't imagine the daily emotions from that, but he goes straight to train in Madrid to be ready for the next stage of his career (the final year or so).

Yep. Not to mention his competitiveness against Messi. The world cup had always been a question mark for both and him crashing out to Morocco, after getting benched while Messi is having GOAT tier performances. That has got to sting him. To be back in training is pretty inspirational.

He's still a grade a Twat and after hoping that mistake after mistake this year he'll come to his senses and apologize it hasn't happened. I don't think he will change and honestly he could have had a great end to his career if he didn't behave like an absolute moron. So yeah, his attitude in that sense inspires me to never be like that but his work ethic is something else

You'd be so tempted to stay in the middle east and enjoy the hot weather and 7 star luxury hotels for at least a few weeks but Ronaldo is back training in a cold Madrid.

He does still own a house there and he may just be sorting shit out until he gets a new club.

Yes.

If he had decided to become - say - a "super sub" a couple of years ago.

Absolutely, yes.

He has lost a lot - much more than his delusional fans think. But if he had changed his approach and focused on being a pure impact player, a pure "threat in the box for the last 20 minutes or so", he could have...been that.

Possibly (at least).

People laugh at his "my hair really did touch the ball" moment for Portugal (rightly so), but his aerial ability isn't gone. He's still a potentially devastating aerial finisher. Sub him on with 15 minutes to go and feed him crosses - of course he could still grab a goal.

It's 100% about his own mindset, though. He's as delusional as his fanboys, it seems.

He should have taken a page of of zlatan's notebook but alas.

Yes, you could say that.

Even if he doesn't have it in him to be inspirational in the dressing room, he could have adjusted: he could have turned into (again) a player you throw on in tight games to grab a goal towards the end (focusing on nothing but finishing, as it were).

But - obviously: it's about self-awareness, the ability to assess yourself as a player at the stage you're at, and the willingness to step down in terms of minutes/being the main man.

It's not really about "ego" as such. Nobody would claim that Zlatan has no ego. It's about being intelligent enough to know your limitations - and understand how you can still be relevant even when you aren't playing 90 minutes every week anymore.

You're spot on.

I think he's in self denial, he centered his life around becoming the best player ever and consequently being better than Messi but that's a lost cause at this point and he knows it and it's slowly eating him away.

He could have a change of course, realize his limitations but I doubt he'll end up doing that.

anytime he was on for the last 20-30 mins for us he actually looked pretty good.

Accepting his role as a super sub, mentoring the younger players and focusing a bit on his club, he could have cemented himself as a United favorite.

Problem is he thought he was still that player who can win Ballon D'ors. He envisioned going to Chelsea, winning the CL and so on.

Ibra isn't a narcissist. He's never really given a shite what other people think of him/how he is perceived. He also doesn't have the same legacy in the sport to "defend".

If he showed even a shred of humility he would get a lot of fans back on his side.

Nah man, his legs are totally slow now. He can't play in a fluid system and against high pressing teams - which is most of the top teams nowadays.

He is finished at the top level, even he if joins another, he will be a liability again.

If I was Ronaldo I'd probably take that offer from Saudi Arabia, play there until I'm 40 and retire. Retire from Portugal in 2023 (after reaching that 'number of performances' record) as his decline is too clear to actually go to 2024 EUROS. Cristiano played now in 5 World Cups and 5 European championships, that's impressive and enough, no need to keep playing for the sake of it.
I always thought he should go to Saudi Arabia for more money and easy life, until recently, I have changed my stance on that.

For money part, he already had more than enough in his bank to live a very rich life, reportedly 500m savings there, plus every year he is expected to make 40-50m from his endorsement alone, which means he can live like a king for rest of his life, money isn’t a problem.

While earning 200m a year (100m after tax?) from Saudi Arabia is cool, it almost adds nothing much to his life.

Instead, with his life long rival beating him in Ballon D’ors and WC, he should rather try his best to save his big records there - career goal, CL goal, international goal. Those records will be his legacy and sets him above everyone else in terms of the greatest goalscorer in football, and they are priceless to him.

If I were him I’d try to move to Sporting maybe. Don’t think there would be any major CL clubs willing to take him now anyway.

Sporting don’t want him nor would any other proper club in Europe and he wouldn’t do anything to protect his stats in such a scenario anyway.

He is well and truly finished.

Well Sporting simply can’t afford his wage, I mean at least that’s what their manager said. If he is willing to lower his wage demand, sure he can still find a top club in some farmers league? (ie Sporting, Benfica, Porto, Ajax, PSV etc)

I still doubt any of those sides would want him anywhere near even on a reduced wage. Which we both know he wouldn’t accept.

In the end you are paying to build your side around no workrate and no holdup play. Nothing but a circus.

I get what you mean, but he still offers top class ariel threats, could still finish abit, and sometimes link up with his teammates on the break. I don’t think all those clubs from farmers league would all refuse to sign him if they could easily afford his wage. What we know is, no major CL club would want to sign him. Whether mid table clubs at top league, or top clubs at farmers league are interested or not, we don’t know yet.

Imagine if Messi wins WC, and he is still without a club, he might just eat humble pie and willing to lower his wage demand and follow whatever manager’s instructions, just to have the last chance to score a few more goals to protect his own records/legacy.

Apparently his poor form is blamed on him not being completely in form now due to missing pre season and match time. Personally I think that this makes sense in general, especially in his age. His decline might be not as steep as it seems now.

He only has himself to blame for the reasons, though.

Ronaldo has lost the spark though even up front, he’s missed loads of chances this year. But it’s not even an ability thing, it’s a personality thing. He’s ruined the interest of a lot of teams with his actions off the pitch in the past few months. Teams would be wary of him ruining the team dynamic with his whinging if he’s not indulged, tantrums if he’s dropped or subbed, undermining the manager if he doesn’t play. Given he’d be going to a smaller team too, he’d expect special treatment, which might not go down well if he’s finished as a player on the pitch.

Nah, he had his pre season, it was just during the actual season. He made sure he was at his peak for the World Cup and…. well…

I doubt those three records last a decade. Kinda diminishes him as a player to reduce him to just those three records. He should do what's best for his family which might very well be a move back to Portugal though I think America suits him better.
