Television The Caf' Anime Thread

Thanks. I like the theme of Gin tama and may start on this soon...
Top choice! By the way, since you mentioned fun anime - maybe try Baccano!, Durarara!! and Barakamon when you have time to spare.

Though considering that One Punch Man and Hunter x Hunter are shōnen or shōnen parodies, maybe we have varying definitions of fun? :nervous:

Came across this beauty, and boy did it bring back some memories. I still get the same chill.

Probably the first significant arc of One Piece - Nami's bit before Luffy places the Straw Hat on her gets me every time!

Quite like this walk as well:

Any recommendations on this?
Gin tama is the gold standard for shōnen parodies. For straight up shōnen, there are tonnes of options - basically every other popular anime is shōnen: One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin (not fun per se but close to the zenith of the shōnen genre), Hajime no Ippo, Dragon Ball (chibi Goku), Yu Yu Hakusho (hack-slash), History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Fullmetal Alchemist, Shingeki no Kyojin, Boku no Hero Academia, Code Geass, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Naruto and Bleach (the good parts), Wolf's Rain, Eureka Seven, D.Gray-Man, Trigun.

Started watching Terror in Resonance recently. Seems alright to be honest.
From what I remember about this, I always felt there was an extra gear needed that it never really kicked into. There was a very throwaway character introduced into the protagonist troupe and the show got gradually less interesting with a messy conclusion, for me.

Last night, I watched (one episode each) Beserk and Claymore for the first time. Usually from the first episode, I'm blown away, but I didn't get that from Beserk. Even so, can't wait to watch more based on preconceived thoughts.

The first episode of Berserk is kinda unrelated to the rest of the series and kinda forgettable, watch the second one, it's the one who got me hooked and also introduces the two great leitmotifs of the series.

Thanks. Will probably watch more on Saturday. I definitely won't give up on it anytime soon, as I could use with more anime that's more Attack on Titan than Fairy Tail if you will.

I like Claymore, too - especially the first 12-ish episodes - or however many there are before Witch's Maw. Has the same problem as Berserk in that the anime directors started taking liberties with the source material, and the show ended on a contrived note.

This run of 2-3 episodes focusing on Teresa as a nonchalant, peerless figure in Claymoreverse - and the awakening of Priscilla after Marked For Death was particularly well done:

Probably one the better (and more stark) shoujo anime out there, all things considered.

I liked the first episode. A mate of mine recommended it 7 years ago on grounds I'd enjoy it given our mutual interest in Bleach. Took me a while, but better late than never. In that case, it would fit right in! On a serious note, that's bitterly disappointing.

What are the other shoujo anime you've liked to some degree? Or if you prefer, that you've watched. I can guess one that you've watched.

Really liked Claymore also. Can recommend it.

This one for sure!

Apart from that, I'd probably recommend Hotarubi no Mori e, Akatsuki no Yona, Jigoku Shoujo, The Rose of Versailles, Cardcaptor and Tsubasa Chronicle and Haruhi Suzumiya (watched all three years ago - might not suit more mature tastes), Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - if you could categorize them all as shoujo. And borderline shoujo/josei like Vision of Escaflowne, Blood+, Fushigi Yugi, Kill La Kill, Black Lagoon, Nodame Cantabile, Clannad, Toradora. As you can see, I haven't watched a ton from the genre considering these are more mecha, action with prominent female characters, or straight up romance/slice of life. @Vidyoyo had recommended Utena in this thread, but I haven't started that in earnest.

Is there a shoujo anime you could recommend, by any chance?
No, not really.
Heard a lot of people like vampire knight & sailor moon, but it's not a genre i tend to watch a lot of, unless some of the animes I've watched do fall into the category but I don't know.

@Invictus @Ødegaard Thanks. Not that there's anything wrong with Shojo anime, but I've only watched one, and even then I didn't complete the series. At the same time, I'm an advocate of exploring different genres, hence the question

Haven't seen the others but the romantic undertones in Akatsuki no Yona are terrible. Ignore that and the rest is okay.

Tonari no Kaibutsu kun. Drunken netflix binge watching ftw.

Also never seen it but Orange was a highly regarded recent shoujo anime.
Cheers. My ex girlfriend forced me to watch Peach Girl with her, so we watched one episode every 2 weeks. By episode 19, we'd broken up. So, I stopped watching.

My fellow weebs, I am on a journey to somehow acquire the entire DragonBallZ English Dub with the Bruce Faulconer bgm (ssj3 theme on episode 245, cell theme..etc) and not the Japanese background score. If any of you know where to find it, can you please point me to it thru PM. Thanks in advance.

Same here. The music was really fantastic wasn't it.

Haven’t watched an anime in ages. Last one was probably Koe no Katachi or In this Corner of the World.

Blue-ray, dvd + music-disc pack. :D

Great watch - you should give Silent voice a watch too if you haven't already, another masterpiece :D
Already watched it (kimi no na wa) around 20 times. Went from shitty stream with scan-lines to blue-ray on 4k 65" TV yesterday. Was amazing. :D

Granted they nerfed Karna, but the fecker needed to be nerfed to be in a show with others.

So I just watched this new Devilman Crybaby from Netflix then.

It got high praise but I didn't found it as good myself, it was just decent for me.

I watched the anthology film Robot Carnival the other day. It was a mixed bunch, with a lot of mediocre stuff. My favourite segment was probably the Presence segment even though it kinda overstayed it's welcome. Joe Hisaishi's creepy score made a big difference.
