Television The Boys

Just watched this in 2 evenings. I don't normally binge but couldn't stop watching it.

Billy Butcher and Homelander are such great characters.

Big fan of Garth Ennis' comics, but I just never picked this up. Just started reading the first omnibus of The Boys and it's excellent too.

They’re really good...don’t want to ruin anything but there are some great bits. Thought the series was considerably better than Preacher but the Preacher comics are better. Well worth a read anyway.

I love Preacher. Still haven't watched the series yet, but the comics are superb.

Is the Preacher tv series not up to much?

In isolation it’s OK and it’s pretty enjoyable for the most part but it deviates so much from the comics that it barely represents the source material IMO.

So i just finished this and thought it was fantastic. Antony Starr why plays Homelander is amazing. I don't know of any other way of saying this, except that he has a great face. By which i mean it's simultaneously handsome, unsettling and menacing, while also appearing friendly and sincere. It's a terrific performance and clearly the standout.

Usually dislike anything to do with superheroes. This was amazing

Just watched the first ep, could immediately tell they film in Toronto. Recognised the Roy Thomson Hall straight away.

Enjoyed it!

Anyone watched this on Amazon Prime?

It's very, very good.

Saw the trailer and found the concept interesting. Haven’t been sold enough to watch the first episode yet but might do just that after your nudge. The concept seems similar to Brandon Sanderson’s Reckoner series.

It’s brilliant. Violent, funny and at times, gross! Totally recommend it. Karl Urban and the guy that plays Homelander are great.

I really tried to like this, the pilot was excellent and there were roughly three excellent set-piece scenes that had me in stitches but thereafter the quality seemed to diminish with each passing episode until I decided not to waste any more time and deleted the last three of the season. Shame really but I think all this hero/anti-hero genre is currently saturated.
Wtf is wrong with ye man

Took me 3 episodes to work out what accent Urban was trying to do. He was still very good despite the accent. Always good to see Elizabeth Shue too.

Just finished it. Bloody brilliant. Anthony Starr was impressive in Banshee but even better in this.

Absolutely shite. Waste of time, poorly written, bad dialogue that tries to be funny but just isn't and the whole thing looks like it's been filmed by a first year student on an iPhone and just proves that Amazon should leave original shows to Netflix.

And yeah all of the above in my post is bullshit. Loved it to bits, maybe even more than Mr Robot. Can't wait for Season 2.

 you had me worried

Brilliant. It actually made me check out the comics while waiting for season 2

Tv show > comics btw

i had it on repeat just to listen to its squeal in slow mo :lol:
 before that point I kept thinking "is this show meant to be a bit camp? It feels a bit camp"...

Then, yeah, that happened

Interesting factoid for you non comic fans regarding the dog leash in the back of Billy's car in the first episode when he says he doesn't have a dog...

he fecking does and it's a big chunky loveable leg humping Pitbull that likes to violently attack folk

Reading the comments on here, I’m very intrigued to watch it now!

Might binge it later this evening.

Terror, mate...f*ck it!

Too bad they could never include him in the tv show

Amazon doesn't have many original shows (Compared to Netflix) but their original shows are pretty good quality. Good Omens was very good, this looks very good from the two episodes I've seen, Jack Ryan series was pretty good, Hanna was entertaining and other shows like Goliath, Bosch, Patriot, The Grand Tour, Sneaky Pete, The Man in The High Castle, The Expanse are all very good. Oh and then there is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which is fantastic.

Amazon maynot be pumping out original content like Netflix, but their content IMO is of higher quality than Netflix. Add that to the upcoming LOTR show, I can see Amazon overtaking Netflix is 5-10 years if Netflix don't sort their stuff out. Out of the nearly 100 originals they release a month, barely handful are quality. Even Netflix admitted that their original programming needs to be of better quality
Yeah, it looks like Amazon are going for quality Vs Netflix's quantity. I suppose it's because Amazon has a massive list of shows and movies you can buy or rent whereas without Netflix's own stuff it would look like a bare catalogue.

I just look through the images for all the Netflix stuff though, see the exact same types of photos and logos and think "what makes this special compared to the show beside it?"
