It still baffles me to this very day how the referee gave only a yellow card and no retrospective action was taken against Williams. This was one of the most shocking acts of violence I've seen on a football pitch and to be perfectly honest I'd of reported it to the police at the time as the act left the realms of sporting contact in the context of the game and for me was blatant assault.

As non-life threatening as it was, it was still a really scummy thing to do.

I know it was a meme for a while but how deliberate that was really should have merited Williams getting a ban.

You are a cop, why don't you go and arrest him?

SO weird, I was talking to the lads at work about this today, when Fergie said ‘he could have been killed.’

In fairness it was naughty

Shearer's opinion seemed to be he jumped back up so it was fine. So if you throw a knife at someone Alan, it catches their arm and they jump back it's not attempted murder?
Did you see that Swansea player, who tripped RVP when he rushed to get up and square up to Williams? Someone should have taken one for the team and decked both of those cnuts.

Oliver to this day is still one of the worst referees, I really despise him.

Shearer said it was a mistake? Yeah a deliberate one!! RVP should have stayed down, may have resulted in a red card then....it should have been red anyway obviously regardless.

Traumatic injury from a football is extremely unlikely, the ball itself will flex around the skull since its not a complete solid. Altough absoliutely unpleasant, and extremely unsportsmanlike, the chances of this being a danger to his life is extremely minimal. The most likely upper-end outcome is a concussion or even a whiplash. So still absolutely serious in itself, but you'll have a hard time proving intent to cause griveously bodily harm.

Roy Keanes Haaland Tackle is still the worst one involving Manchester United in the Premier League for me i think

But worst tackle...tough one. Perhaps this one: - Callum Mcmanaman's tackle on Massadio Haidara. Studs straight for the knees, completely vicious

"Killed" is somewhat hyperbolic. I mean, if one had terrible luck or weren't in good physical condition through age or fitness, yes, that absolutely could've killed them. But the chances are miniscule. As for that causing a concussion? Probable for most people. And as we're starting to understand more and more, concussions are fecking terrible for you.

I'm not a Utd fan but I would've thrown the book at the prick. Absolutely disgusting play. The only way it could've been worse is if he did that without using the ball.

fecking twat Shearer.

I thought Van Persie should have had a red himself for grabbing Williams cock in retribution.

Yeah, a full blast on his head from close range - that's no joking matter. In general, justice within sports is supposed to be administered through the laws of the game and their governing bodies, and players can't make claims elsewhere because they willingly participate in a sport with known health risks. But what Williams did has nothing to do with the game, and as much as the FA could have suspended him for a season (if Williams had gotten a red card), that would not have done anything for Van Persie if the ball had hit him worse and he had ended up paralyzed from the neck down (as a possible worse-case scenario). Maybe it should become more common to go to the police with violent incidents that have nothing to do with football? (The latter would be hard to define, but there would be jurisprudence soon enough after a couple of cases.)

Ultimate cowardice from that clown Williams.

Kicking it at his head on purpose from a few cms away? Pathetic.

RVP got his revenge the following season when he banged in 2 and 1 at the expense of Williams.

Disgusting act though.

I remember Sky Sports News getting some 'specialist' on the matter on their show after it happened, they claimed it couldn't have killed him.

The worst in PL history is Ben Thatcher on Pedro Mendes and it isn't even close.

I was at that game, everyone was absolutely bolloxed in the away end. Not sure why this is relevant, but it was a cracking day out

This is still the worst for me.

Considering Mings has done an even worse deliberate head stamp on another player previously, I'm amazed he's allowed to still play professional football.

All I can thing about is how much of a twat Michael Oliver is with his punchable twat face.

Embarrassing thread.

Trying too hard. There is no reason to mock Sir Alex.
