Close one there, Dublin v. London.

Saw the Dublin game the other day, load of bollox. Pack of spineless wasters. Nead a leader on the pitch, someone with a bit of bottle.

Was at Croker on Sunday, my brother got some of those tickets for the poncey level, you can walk the perimeter of the stadium and have a drink at the numerous bars while watching the action through the glass or on d'telly. Which was nice.

The Dubs looked ok in the first half, Brogan and Sherlock picked off some fine points, it looked at one stage that all they had to do was lift their performance another notch and they'd leave Iarmhi in their slipstream. Number one they didn't count on Paudi's prowess as a cuter tactician than Lyons and Number two, when the going got tough they didn't have any heart apart from poor Paddy Christie who has too much class for this particular Dublin team.

Westmeath thoroughly deserved their win and I certainly didn't begrudge shaking the hands and clapping the backs of their success starved fans after the game. I think they'll beat Wexford although they'll probably go into that game as favourites, a position they are not used to.

Finally to the wonderful Kildare fans who took great relish in rubbing our noses in it as we were leaving Croker on Sunday at 4.oo pm. One word.
Wexford

Hope Lyons goes before the London game, he has gone backwards from the supposed highs of '02 and has lost the dressing room

I know quite a few heads involved in the Dublin club scene who maintain that Lyons is an arrogant twat who has overlooked some excellent players in the Dublin scene merely because he doesent like the clubs they play for.

It was ultimately a game of two Dessies, Dolan who played and roasted his marker who should have been switched by Lyons and Farrell who should have played from the start but was mysteriously dropped by Lyons.

What ever happened to Ray Cosgrove?? He was on fire for a while, had a dip in form and then never came back.

Poor club form since he came back from injury, lost his confidence
Lyons brought him on in the 2nd half against Westmeath but he hardly touched the ball

er...glad to see you lads beat the might of London in the qualifier. ;)

it was just delaying the inevitable, Dublin will more than likely lose their next match if they get a difficult draw

your Kerry lads looked good against Cork, the Hooch is a fantastic player and the team are playing with the same stylish attacking power you'd expect from Kerry with the added steely defence of a Tyrone/Armagh, will take some beating, clear All-Ireland favourites.

Gooch Cooper was only in 2nd gear to be honest and hit a lot of wides. But he is an animal of a player - he has that touch of magic that a Kerry forward needs in my book (similar to Mikey Sheehy). 'The People Republic of Cork' were piss poor too though (so no surprise there then), even the rebel fans next to me were muted after Kerry put over 6 unanswered points in the first half. Overall, I'd say it was scandalous that Kerry were asked to have a public training session in that sort of heat ;)

Our new found defensive tactics were too much for the Corcaigh, but the most important thing is that we keep the flair in attack and don't turn it into glorified rugby like the Nordies.
No favourites yet though, (Armagh, Tyrone, Galway + Kerry) - there hasn't been any football played yet.

this weekend so lads:

Football
Donegal v. Tyrone
Meath v. Laois
Leitrim v. Rosommon

No easy matches for anyone there.

Hurling
Laois v. Westmeath
Offaly v. Dublin

Are Dublin now better hurlers than footballers?

Great win for Donegal V's Tyrone
Laois beat a poor Meath

When is the draw for the second round of the qualifiers ?

Keane16 said:
Laois looked fairly handy to me. They had a lot of wides, but they were making chances wholesale. Meath are as bad a Dublin - would be a good game actually.

would be funny really, Meath V's Dublin in the qualifiers, how times have changed........I believe the qualifier draw is next Sunday, fingers crossed we dont get Tyrone

You can't get someone from the same province as far as I know....I think anyway. As for Dublin drawing Tyrone, well, you lads may as well draw them and lose with a reasonable excuse. Can't see the Dubs fans taking a loss to Limerick or Fermanagh with their usual good grace. - especially seeing as the victory over London has given them a taste for success.

This week so:

Saturday 26th June 2004
GUINNESS HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS

Galway v Down
Clare v Laois
Limerick v Tipperary
Kilkenny v Dublin

BANK OF IRELAND CONNACHT SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL REPLAY

Leitrim v Roscommon

Sunday 27th June 2004
BANK OF IRELAND CONNACHT SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
SEMI-FINAL

Mayo v Galway

BANK OF IRELAND LEINSTER SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
SEMI-FINAL

Wexford v Westmeath

GUINNESS MUNSTER SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
FINAL
Cork v Waterford

Plenty going on. Galway might not have it all their own way against Mayo, but I do expect them to win. Mayo put a lot of store in Kieran McDonald, but Galway are a step above them. I fancy Westmeath to nab Wexford at Croker too - Mattie Ford is in danger of becoming the new Declan Brown. Leitrim v. Roscommon is important for them, but not for anyone else.

Hurling wise, the Cats will beat Dublin, Galway will do Down, the other two qualifiers are tough enough to call though - for me anyway. I fancy Waterford to do a job on Cork tough., - they've been very impressive so far this year.

The football fixtures should be great, all teams will be trying their hearts out for wins as they know the Jacks are waiting in the wings ;)

I was reading in the paper this morning that Ray Cosgroves brothers are getting sent down fro beating up some punter and his mum, not good.

really, do you have a link ?

And him a Kilmacud player :nono:

the Herald, bastion of fair play and equality has an article on it as well.
Seemss it was a revenge attack on some bloke who had given Rays brother a Tallaght Handshake the previous evening.

Got them all spot on, except that Mayo did one on Galway, which was a surprise.

Bad news for the Dubs is that though, Galway in the qualifiers now.

Loch Gorman and all,
What a game to kill the cats off, ive said it before and ill say it again, Wexford are the Man Utd of Hurling

he was never spat on, or jeered off the pitch, or abused like your current 'manager'.

Leitrim in the qually's? - only making it worse for yourselves in the long run.

Loch Gorman is it? Good job v. Kilkenny.

The hurling seems to be much more exciting than the footie this year (most years actually). I wish Ciarrai would put together a decent 15 for the stick game - could you imagine the Munster Hurling Championship with 6 competitive teams going for it every year! Mayhem.

he probably wasn't spat on ( that person who spat at Lyons is a Traveller and not representative of the Dublin fans as a whole ) but he was certainly jeered mocked and derided by a large volume of Kerry fans not so long ago, its part and parcel of the game nowadays.

Unfortunately we cant do anything about the draw in the qually's but as long as Dublin are involved they will be cheered on by the true blue fans all of whom know deep down that ultimately the Dubs are only really making up the numbers, but we'll support them evermore :)

Nialler said:

howld it now, he was never jeered or mocked, derided maybe, when it became apparant that it was time to go, but he was reluctant to resign. He was certainly criticised, after Meath in '01 and Armagh in '02, and the criticism was certainly sharpened after Tyrone last year, but he was never treated like Lyons nor anything close or even anything untoward to be honest. He had his time, and continues to be a great manager, but Kerry had to move on. The 'animals' thing was unfortunate, but he misjudged the mood in the county as he was away at the time. He actually meant it in a good way.

Keane16 said:

Lyons was strongly criticised after the Westmeath defeat and rightly so, but thats all it was, criticism. OK some eejits went a bit OTT directly after the game but you are bound to get one or two muppets among a support as huge as Dublins.

Most of the flak Lyons is taking now comes directly from the press and is of his own making. When he first took on the Dublin post he made Royston Brady look publicity shy and now he shuns those very same reporters that he initially sought publicity from, hence the media backlash.

If you were at Parnell Park for the Dublin / London game you would have witnessed a true blue Dublin support get clearly behind the manager and his team in a unique display of unity albeit in embarassing circumstances. This was the fans telling Lyons that while he still controls the reins they will support him and his team.

Agree up to a point. Almost all criticism/flack/abuse etc... must come through the press, that doesn't mean that it is all from the press. Ex-players have been critical of tactics, fans have been critical of selection, there is the Cluxton debacle, Kilmacud syndrome and the needless childish war with the media, and obviously the constant underperformance on the pitch. He should be glad criticism comes through the press rather than the direct kind. ;) I admire your loyalty though, not sure an animal like myself would be the same.

Talk about embarrassing - I went to a club game Parnell Park once whilst chasing a woman. Didn't work.

us West Brits can be as loyal as you Kerry animals ;)
