The 2011 Karim Benzema thread

So they buy him for £35m then after two failing seasons they offload him for £35m... and we are the muppets that pay that fee. Don't think so.

Eto'o is another who is labelled a 'dressing room' poison even though he seems to be one the best professionals out there.

Anyway we don't need Benzema now.
 
Do we really need another striker, and would we spend £35m on one?

I can't see that happening unless United were thinking of selling Berbatov and/or moving Rooney into the Scholes role. Even then, £35m for Benzema is too much based on what he has done since he joined Real Madrid.

Similar to Tevez in my eyes. Dedicated on the footballing side, but when he doesn't get his way he spits out the dummy
 
Fergie's a big fan of the lad, I used to be when he was at Lyon but my opinion has cooled a bit.

In saying that, his range of goals for Lyon were incredible. Tap-ins, long-range strikes, mazy runs and quality headers. His style of play is similar to Ronaldo (Brazil) rather than Zidane in my opinion, same physique and movement.

We know Welbeck is returning and there are curvy question marks over both Berbatov and Owen's futures...would I have Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and Benzema as our four main strikers were Berb and Owen to move on?

I still recall a lot of ppl here whined when we signed chicco instead of Benzenma
 
No one expected us to sign Benzema last summer when Chico came, it was the summer before.
 
15M or LESS, he might be worth a punt. Would enhance our squad and options aswell, but anythin more, no thanks.

If he were to move, I can see him ending up back at Lyon, or in Italy though.
 
Unless its a bargain price then no way should we be signing him. Espically for 35 million :lol:

If Real want to get rid of the player then they'll have to accept a significant fall in his price. He's been utter arse this season. I personally wouldn't want him, we need investment in other areas of the pitch. I can see Spurs grabbing him for a bargain price once Real decide to drop the price to 2nd rate teams ala VDV.
 
WENGER CONFIRMS BENZEMA INTEREST

Arsene Wenger has confirmed an interest in Karim Benzema and says it is "not impossible" for Arsenal to sign the Real Madrid striker.

Benzema has spent the past two seasons at Real after signing from Lyon, but has struggled to establish himself as a first choice under coach Jose Mourinho.

However, the France international still boasts a healthy strike rate and was also a target for Manchester United prior to joining Real.

His agent recently stated that the 23-year-old is planning to stay with the Spanish giants, but Arsenal have now been linked with a summer swoop.

Wenger is expected to be busy in the transfer market in the summer after another season without a trophy and a striker has been mooted as a priority.

The Gunners boss has expressed his admiration for Benzema and does not appear to rule out the possibility of trying to sign the forward.

"Signing him does not seem impossible," Wenger is quoted in The Sun. "He's a player that I like.

"He's intelligent in his movement; he is capable of combining well with others and making a difference, and of doing individual moves as well.

"So, for me, he's a player who's at the top level in the world."

Couldn't care less. Would prefer to bed in Welbeck now as a 4th choice striker and use Rooney/Berba/Hernadez as the first choice strikers.

Can't really see Van Persie and Benzema forming a good partnership, they're both too selfish surely?

Van Persie is more than capable of turning into a provider. He's had to shoulder that mantle over the course of his career a few times, and done it well.

I don't watch enough of Arsenal to really comment, but from whenever i've seen Van Persie play he seems to play alot better upfront on his own. But i'll bow to your wisdom of course ;)

Do you realistically think you'll fork out the cash this summer to pay for players like Benzema? Or is this simply media talk to try and get the pressue off Wenger after a disappointing end to the season?
 
ONly way he would come to United is if one of Rooney, Berba or Hernandez left us. None of which look to be happening anytime soon.

Move along please. Benzema is so 2009.
