The 2010 Baseball Thread

Is Joba going anytime soon? Get him out of there, Triple-A and re-work him.

As stated earlier on Baseball Tonight, the Yanks need to acquire a "bridge" to Rivera. Said that Joba isn't working out. I think they ruined his arm and effectiveness with that stupid starting rotation experiment. Doesn't help that Aceves and Mitre have been hurt. Granted Park and Robertson have been shit too.

They should look to get a solid setup man, preferably a lefty since Marte is their only LHP in relief (terrible how they have six relievers but only one is a lefty). Send Joba to the minors or include him the trade.

Taschner of Pittsburgh might be a good pickup. Schoeneweis was designated for assignment by the Red Sox in May and could be picked up. The Braves have three very good lefties but probably wouldn't part with one, though a Joba or Park might entice them. Park was good with the Phillies and is a NL pitcher if there ever was one.

At this point I would try and dump Joba, wasted arbitration years and he still has some kind of stock. Yankees need a bench player, atleast 1 arm in the pen if not 2 and if they go aggressive maybe even a DH/OF power bat.

After the Lee failure I don't think they are really shopping for an SP the oppurtunity was just there to add a quality innings eater.

Can't keep sending guys like Pena, Curtis, Cervelli and Russo out there when the crunch games come. Dump Gaudin & Park, perhaps promote Albaladejo and then look for some trades.

I think Roberton has been good since his terrible first 6 weeks Michael Kay was saying the other night on MLB tv that since his terrible start his era has been 1.34. Roberton, Marte (out side of Mo that is) are the only 2 guys I trust the rest not so much. Yanks do need Aceves and Mitre (never thought I would be saying that a year ago) back soon.

Agree with that last year the Yanks had Hinkse, Hairston, Gardner this year Pena, Russo and Thames not great. Cash does need to get another good bench guy.

Thames is good against lefties, for that alone he is a good bench player but the rest don't have the bat to give any regular contribution apart from perhaps Cervelli who is sometimes clutch.

As long as Cash doesn't give up too much he needs to make some moves, just leave Montero out of it.

Yeah I would agree with that Thames is same level as Hinske, Cervelli is an upgrade over Molina but I do think the Yanks need someone better then Pena and Russo.

I only think Jesus will be used in getting someone great.

And there is nobody great about right now that would be dealt, don't waste a potential power hitting catcher (more like 1B/DH but anyway) on short term players. I'm interested in who Cash moves for, I love deadline times.

The reports of his death are now being retracted and it's reported that he is hospitalized but still alive.

Am I the only one who looks at that and thinks "He got some more time from Satan in exchange for a Player To Be Named Later"?

Retracted by who?

ESPN.com still has it on their main page, and is quoting his spokesman/agent.

Darth Vader of Sport that bloke...

Memo to Girardi - it's a fecking exhibition game... pinch run ARod for that slow feck Ortiz. It doesn't fecking matter if ARod plays 1B or OF or fecking bullpen coach.

Thanfully, I slept through the whole all-star game.

I watched the All-Star game on recap, last time I bother with it.

On a side not I wonder if BJ Upton is trade bait this time around, poor season so far and an attitude. Speaking of which Elijah Dukes has fell a few leagues down hasnt he, kinda surprised nobody gambled on him even though he is a loon.

Haha the Steinbrenners avoided the estate taking saving them over half a billion

How did they avoid it? I remember the Rooney's having problems with the estate tax or maybe if was the NY Giants owners, but I recall an article in a magazine or the net about the Rooney's potential nightmares (they're not billionaires). I believe if the owner signs over the club to family before death, there is no inheritance tax. Something like that.

Deadline day :)

Jeter
Swisher
Teixiera
A-Rod
Cano
Berkman
Posada
Granderson
Gardner

Yankees also get Austin Kearns a big upgrade over Colin Curtis but I would like to see someone of the bench to replace Pena and more bull pen.

But I do like the Berkman deal.

Cash made a allot of good moves needed a DH a guy of the bench and releif. Kerry Wood could be good he cant be any worse then Gaudin, Mitre, Mosely or Park.

I like the moves, plus Park is DFA'd which actually improves the 25 roster.

Can't believe the Nationals were asking for Beckham.

Disappointed we didn't get Dunn.

Time to get this thread going now that we are nearing the end of the regular season...
My team the dodgers have had a horror season...I think the bullpen is a real worry Sherill, Troncoso, Weaver, Broxton and Belasario are junk relievers. Big Changes need to happen to have a shot next year.
As for the main players this year I think Tampa and the Yankees will obviously do well, but I think the Winner will come from the National League this year. I think the Phillies are going to go all the way. They have a great pitching rotation with Hammels, Oswalt, and Halladay and with a fit Chase Utley and Ryan Howard they will be hard to stop.

Phillie's rotation is probably the strongest amongst the playoff contenders, If the Yankee's can't win it this year then I really wouldn't mind seeing Roy Halladay get his ring. Obviously though I really hope the Yankee's do it again, gotta improve our average with RISP and the rotation other than CC and Pettitte has to step it up.

So Ichiro Suzuki has 200 hits for the season AGAIN. 10th straight season, tying him with Pete Rose...

He was already going to be the in the HOF, but things are becoming more of a lock now...One thing I do complain about is, 10 years he's been in the US, and he still uses a translator most of the time, when talking to the press.

C'mon dude, your English can't be worse than the tripe Sammy Sosa used to shoot out of his mouth.

Advantage Rays after tonight's win over the Yankees. They own the tie breaker if the teams finish level, and have a game in hand plus an easier run in.

Its a shame both teams are in the same division really.

Doesn't matter IMO. Twins are going to win the AL pennant.

They might but you have to take their record with a pinch of salt playing in that division. For a team to come out of the AL East with the same record takes a hell of a lot more effort IMO.

Really has been terrible the last month or so, just when you think they are waking up they go bad again. Burnett is good one minute bad the next, Vazquez has basically lost all heat in his arm, Chamberlain is still unreliable, Guadin has dirty pictures of Giradi else he wouldn't get a game, Jeter is a DP machine, Kearns can't run.......but still 92-63.

Gonna be a hard time winning in the playoffs if they carry on like they have.

If the Red Sox sweep them in NY with a win tomorrow the is a chance the Yankees might miss the play offs. A road trip to Toronto will not be easy the way the Yankees are playing, and they finish the season away to the Red Sox,

Girardi has had a bad with most of his calls very 2008 bringing in Gaudin/Mitre/Moseley in key points like today just 4 runs and in Septemeber when every player should be out there in must win games hes giving them a day off.

Well the top three in the AL have been pissing away games during the run in. With one game to go the Rays are the only ones with control of their own destiny. The Yankees have to hope the Rays lose today, and then win themselves to snatch the eats and HFA for the play offs.

If the Ray and Yankees both lose the Twins can draw level but I am not sure how the tie breaker stands between the Rays and Twins.

The state of the teams at the moment is a joke...

Almost all the postseason teams are going in to the playoffs on losing streaks
