The 2010 Baseball Thread

I like my Yankees, we've got younger and upgraded the outfield. I'm hoping Gardner steps up this year with the bat and AJ knuckles down and pitches like he knows he can.

Bit dissapointed Damon didn't come back but I guess we added some OPS with Johnson. All in all with a fit A-Rod im confident.

Me too really happy with the Yankees. Getting Javy was key we have a great 5 man rotation with a very good bull pen with Hughes or Joba setting up Mo. As for line up even though the Yanks lost Damon, Matsui I Still think we have the best line up in the game I think Granderson and Johnson can get make up for it.

Expecting another year of mediocrity from the Mariners. :(

Really? The Angels might slip up this year, AL West is not far out of your grasps... Them and Detroit are 2 teams i'm looking out for this season.

Infact, I might as well put in my picks for the season:

AL East: Yankees
AL Central: Twins
AL West: Mariners
AL Wild-Card: Red Sox

Tigers, White Sox, Rays & Angels will compete for spots, closely contested AL this season.

NL East: Phillies
NL Central: Cardinals
NL West: Dodgers
NL Wild-Card: Rockies

NL is shit so I think it's wide open other than the Phillies who are a class above and improved, so who knows really, just not the Pirates.

I think the Sox or Yankees will compete for the AL, and the Phillies should win the NL again, the Cardinals are the only team that I expect to even compete.

AL MVP: Joe Mauer will take his deal and run, he'll win the award again as long as the Twins make the playoffs... Youkilis, Teixiera and Miguel Cabrera are all contenders

NL MVP: Albert Pujols in a contract year, no competition... But for the sake of it, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, Hanley Ramirez

Surprise Player: Pablo Sandoval of the Giants, no question he's a player to look out for, may be a contender for the NL batting title

AL Cy Young: Felix the Cat will win it this year, Greinke will have a so-so year, the Red Sox trio (Lester, Beckett & Lackey) will be reserved to runner up, and CC Sabathia is always a wild-card pick

NL Cy Young: The Tim Lin reign will end: Roy Halladay will win 20+ games... Of course, give the long haired man his dues, as well as Chris Carpenter and Mr. Wainwright their respects

AL Rookie Watch: Impossible to pick these awards pre-season, but my best bets are Brian Matusz in Baltimore, Desmond Jennings in Tampa, and the filthy Neftali Feliz in Texas

NL Rookie Watch: On second though, the NL award is easy: Jason Heyward in Atlanta... But for kicks, Mike Stanton in Florida, Alcides Escobar in Milwaukee, and let's put Strasburgs name in here too, the Nationals will budge early.

Theives: Ellsbury will steal the most bases based on the fact he'll be in less rotation this year, and as is he'll be in contention with Carl Crawford for the award for most stolen bases.

AL East Newcomers: Curtis Granderson and Javy Vazquez make their way to New York, while Boston welcomes Adrian Beltre and John Lackey... Also, the Sox sign Jays standout Marco Scutaro and gold-glove OF Mike Cameron... Not the same old ballgame

On August 1st, Adrian Gonzalez will be with: The White Sox, especially if they're in good contention in the AL Central.

Most competative division: The NL West has 3 suitors for the division title, don't be surprised if the 2 best teams in the NL come from here, and if the third has a better record than playoff bound teams... And let's not totally kill off San Diego or Arizona, 2 teams I think COULD be surprising... Don't count out the NL Central though, if the Cubs show up that too could be a tough division... Hell, all the NL, 3 teams could win the East too.

World Series: Red Sox ;) ... i'll leave it at that

We started positively last season but fell away awfully quick around the halfway mark of the season. I guess like the rugby league team I blindly support, you come to expect disappointment. Anything else is a bonus.

I pretty much agree with every thing AS said but I'd put A-Rod the the AL MVP list I think hes gonna have a great season. I do think the Yanks will win 28.

Did I warn yous about Jason Heyward last season? If I didn't, I should've...

went to see the Nats v the Phillies on opening day yesterday in DC. Obama threw the 1st pitch too.
nice, as my boss was the one that dragged to it so a free day out of the office on a gloriously sunny day in DC.
crowd was about 50% phillies fans though. man, those guys are loud, and some quite obnoxious.

"Oh Curtis your something sort of grandish"

 the feck is that call from Sterling.

Theo Walcott of baseball, you heard it here first. He will probably fade in the second half of the season. I probably wouldn't mind him if the media and everyone weren't jizzing over him and making up stupid nicknames, but I hate him now.

Going to an Opening Day today, my first. Should be fun even though I'm supporting the opposition.

Never, the NL East is the most hitter friendly in all baseball, and the pitching isn't anything to write home about barr Philly

He'll be rookie of the year

Heyward looks quality to me, firm favorite for rookie of the year.

You want to be careful, I started going to the odd Nats game last year when I was on a scholarship at the LoC - only to find by the end of the season that I'd somehow ended up really caring about them. So now I'm a Nats fan, stranded on the other side of the world, supporting one of the worst teams in MLB history...

On the bright side, they've started a lot better this year - and Strasburg still to come

...and a good win over the Phillies last night too. They're scoring much better this year, but need to tighten up the starting pitching - still 4-5 after six games against the best team in the NL is a hell of a lot better than last year.

Red Sox are off to a dissapointing start, and now injuries are in effect.

The Jays, Rays and Yanks all seem to have settled in other than the Jays closing situation, we're all over the place.

Point in case the other day; as Marquis gave up 10 to the Brewers in the first fecking inning. Nats did well to recover to an 11-7 defeat really...

Yankees look good, pitching seems to be really strong this season so far which is always a good sign because we still have some bats the heat up yet in Teixiera, Johnson and Swisher.

Rays look pretty damned good as well. Seven wins and two sweeps on the road trip so far. Absolutely destroyed the Red Sox in their house.

David Eckstein is the epitome of all that is wrong in baseball. He is singlehandedly holding back the sport and ruining the whole world.

I blame him for:
Rise of Sarah Palin and Tea Party
NBC being an overall terrible network propped up by 4 good shows (alternatively, the Office US overtaking The Office UK in popularity)
Tottenham's inevitable failure to claim 4th (you know it's going happen)

I am not kidding. All of these things can be traced back to him. I hate him so fecking much.

But how Chew?

Sawks finally won last night, now that everyone has a headstart it's time to get in gear

The Marlins and Braves both have great staffs. I realize the Braves' staff doesn't affect Heyward. But the point I'm making is I doubt the Phillies' staff lives up to the hype. What else do they have after Halladay and Hamels in the rotation?

Regardless, if Jason Heyward is Theo Walcott, he's the Theo Walcott of U-14 rec soccer.

What was Girardi doing with Marte there? Cost them the game.

Sawks lost again anyways so it's not like we've taken advantage.

Jose Molina today though, through out 4 guys at second base, 2 of them were Carl Crawford

Way too early to worry about it. Teixiera's bat will wake up on the stroke of May.

Cano is looking great the moment. Great start for the Yankees with the likes of Javy, Tex, A Rod, Granderson and the bullpen struggling not to forget its been tough with 5 out of 7 road games.
