That £100m warchest that was talked about a couple of months ago

Breaking news on sky, the warchest is staying intact building up interest until the summer !!!

SAF never buys big in January. Sure Vidic and Evra ended up being amazing, but they were £12m combined. If we buy big it'll be in the Summer.

A lot of our signings recently have paid no heed to the actual transfer windows.

Can we spend this money in summer or will the financial regs have kicked in by then?

We can spend the money whenever we want and the regs don't really affect us. The teams it hits the most are City and Chelsea, oh and every other club outside of the top teams in the worlds leagues.

saha was 12.8 million in 2004. that is a decent wedge.

i think 10-15 could be spent (besides lindegaard).

That's 7 years ago now though, and SAF has never particularly liked buying in January unless absolutely necessary.

I don't really think it's necessary.

It's available for the club to use as it sees fit. That might include buying back some of the bonds and funding major capital investment projects but there can be no doubt that there is an extremely significant amount of cash available to sign players.

It certainly won't be used to repay the Glazers PIK debt as some devious individuals had said would be the case.

can you lads not give it a rest for a change? There are more than enough accounts related threads in the United forum. Transfer forum is for transfers please.

I don't claim to be an expert on the accounts and realise that business models often operate with substantial debt but if I have 2 bank accounts, 1 of them overdrawn by £500 and the other one with £50 I could quite easily claim that I had enough money for a night out but in reality, it would be foolish to.

That's pretty much what we seem to have at Utd-an account with the 'war chest' money in it and the consistent message that it is available for transfers, yet still owing hundreds of million in another.

You can argue for a long time as to whether it's really for transfers or even if we need to spend it but how can you so sure that it won't be used to pay some form debt? At the very least it's probably our transfer budget for 5 or so years (of course I have no evidence of this) and as soon as it's gone, there'll be no more funds without sales to players. Without going over the figures and repeating what's been said a million times, the whole £25 million budget a year with a 'massive' signing every few years and adding the Ronaldo money would (off the top of my head with taking away transfers in) equal a war chest pretty fecking large that isn't really being dipped into.

Again not saying we need to spend big and maybe SAF doesn't want to but how can you be so sure it's available? With every window that goes past and every decent player we 'miss out' on it's beginning to look more and more like the Emperor's New Clothes.

Ultimately Fergie will make decisions on who, if anyone joins the club in the near future. For what its worth, very little business is usually done in January other than to possibly tie up some deals for the summer, largely because the top players are cup tied and it tends to smack of "panic" buying.

Fact is there is money there, seemingly visable on the balance sheets. It hasn't been spent on loans, nor on running the club so you have to assume that some of it is earmarked, where neccessary for investment in the squad.

It sclear that investment is neccessary, probably more so in the summer so hopefully we'll see some action than.

The Football Ramble podcast came up with a range of transfer repositories, to fit all budgets. Ian Holloway will be lucky to get a Battle Box.

Liverpool to get a combat canister? Blackburn to get a skirmish sandwich?

So how will the glazer apologists explain this, they keep saying that the qatari's are gonna be abromovich style owners if they ever bought us, but the glazer's are slowly killing us, every man and his dog knows we need a good defensive midfielder to compete with carrick and fletcher (cleverly and anderson are not defensive - and gibson does not count)

A defensive midfielder? Where the feck has that come from? We NEED a defensive midfielder?

There is no 100m to spend as much as there is no need to buy in January. Cleverley will cover the left flank in Park's absence, while any problems in midfield will have to wait till next summer. Next summer we will re assess the quality of the team and act accordingly.

FFS! already 37 minutes the windows been open and still no Messi!?

feck off life!

but, but, we have a £100 million, whats going on? Whay aren't we spending? City are going to buy DZeko ffs, we have to get Messi now!

If you've got an £80k mortgage and a £15k balance in your current account, do you think you can afford to go out for the night?

The Glazers may be utter twats and treat the fans with contempt but they need to keep United competitive to get the biggest ROI.

The hardest part in dealing with the Glazer ownership is the emotional side. It's difficult to accept the ACS and price rises that have seen people paying over £1000 for a season ticket that was £551 only three seasons earlier.

They have done great things commercially. Similarly they have screwed the fans over in terms of ticket prices and cup schemes. They are running United as a business because they are businessmen. Unfortunately there weren't any match-going billionaires around at the time of the takeover to fend them off.

They know we must win regularly now the ticket prices are at the level they are to maintain the attendances. We've already seen plenty of empty seats at OT this season and it's only going to get worse if players aren't bought in the summer. That's supporter perception of the current playing staff; we're somehow unbeaten but we're not playing great.

Does anyone actually believe United have a 100mil warchest.

Not at all mate.

Just because You've got £1000 tucked away doesn't mean you can go and blow it all on blurays and video game.

Technically we only have £96.5m left in the warchest, considering we've already spent £3.5m of it on the Dane keeper.

I thought the 100M warchest two months ago was reduced to 50M two days ago when the papers said we won't be spending any of the 50M we still have left.
