What do people think about Ambrose's ability to take wickets on a flat track? Did a lack of variation and guile mean he would do poorly there? Was he a bowler who needed pitch assistance to succeed?

Ambrose was world class and could probably take wickets on any pitch. He and Saqlain are both getting underrated in this match, both were absolutely world class bowlers who'd take wickets on any pitch.

Having set that aside, Interval's batting is far too strong. Kallis, Tendulkar and Border will all probably come in the top ten batsmen of all time list and then when you've the likes of Greenidge and Laxman to compliment them, it becomes a tad ridiculous. Backing Interval to win this match.

I hate these clear bowling vs batting battles, just can't make my mind up at all.

Very unlucky draft for both imo. Any other teams and you guys would have won quite handsomely.

Yup very good and evenly matched teams. Neither deserves to go out at QFs.

This game was awfully familiar to me... https://www.redcafe.net/threads/cricket-draft-semi-final-interval-vs-aldo.379856/

I lost to Aldo under similar circumstances; I had Lillee, Donald, Akram and Kumble as my bowling and Gooch and Viv Richards as my batting mainstays.

Aldo had Gavaskar, Ponting, Tendulkar with Warne and McGrath as his bowlers. I lost 9-8
Haha lot of familiar players there. This would have been the 1st cricket draft on the caf right? Where I think Aldo won the whole thing in the end. Those were insanely good teams tbf. Maybe we might see the same this draft after another reinforcement round.

I'm sure we'll see something similar. Frankly, no amount of planning and expertise helps in these sort of games as long as you have a basic recollection of how good players were. People's perceptions vary dramatically and have their own concept of how games are won.

Yep, very true. There isn't really much of a point to a write-up like the one I did tbh but I wanted to give my perspective on my batsmen, both good and bad. Looking back now I'd say I overrated Sehwag, Abbas and Ashwin while drafting but underrated Gooch a little.

Yeah. Sehwag didn't get you as much an advantage as you were hoping a third round pick would get you due to his weakness against swing. But you obviously can't guess that at that point in time. I think Abbas was a good pick for what you had available at the point in time. Probably, I'd say Healy in round 8 when you had tonnes of similar keepers available could've been avoided. But frankly, you did as well as could be done. Its just weird luck, I guess.
