Weirdly I think he might prefer playing one of those guys before a potential match with Djokovic. He's capable of beating those guys anyway but they would prove a real test for him and be able properly gauge his level. Still better for him and there are some dangerous guys left so not a terrible thing by any means.
Yeah Rafa needs to be tested before he faces Novak or it'll be a repeat of AO 19. The FAA match was splendid prep before facing Novak at RG. However, I think Djokovic will be equally undercooked this time given his draw is another joke.

Weird how centre isnt full!
I was there yesterday and it was the same, felt like at no point during the day it was near being full.

I heard on a podcast that Wimbledon attendance was the lowest it's ever been on day 1 since 2007. Seems numbers on site in general have taken a dip this year, even if Centre Court has sold out every day.

FAA out in 4 tough sets to Cressy, who's a bloody good player on his day. Rune out in straights to Giron. I think the draw might really open up over the next few days. There seems to be a lot of talk about the potential for a bunch of Covid positives, given the lack of measures. Cilic and Berettini gone today already.

Pro tennis is going out of fashion and people are getting bored of the same people dominating on the men's side for so long?

Or people don't have the money any more to go due to current Tory crisis

Serena 3-4 down on serve in the 3rd set. Her conditioning doesn't look amazing, tbh.

What kind of cost are the tickets?

It's difficult to know really, think if next year is the same then it's more meaningful. On the men's side it's been like this for years.

I think no Federer, higher prices amongst the cost of living and maybe just a change in customer behaviour. Perhaps people are getting fed up of the queue?

Agreed, can't see her going deep here if she gets through tonight. If she can stay injury free for a year, maybe she can be an outsider next year.

Serena serving to stay in it at 5-6. Serena looks really tired. Panting throughout the last few games.

If I was to turn up tomorrow would I get in? I thought Wimbledon tickets were gold dust.
Get in where is the question? Show courts probably not unless you show up super early. You'd probably get a ground pass fairly easily and quicker than other years but getting on Centre Court is still difficult.

Yeh I meant ground pass and centre court tickets. As I see on tv half the seats are empty, are these just no shows?

A few of my mates are over - admittedly on corporates - and they were saying on WhatsApp that they reckon you could just rock up tomorrow and get ground passes and see some really good matches. As @saivet says, though, you'll struggle to get show courts.

Yeah will be no shows. Grounds pass you'd get in fine but not centre court unless you bag tickets online or queue overnight.

Previously if you had a Centre Court ticket and went home early, you could give your stub to staff on your way out and they'd resell your ticket to those onsite, which means you can keep centre court full even if half of them leave. They advertised the same thing but with mobile tickets it doesn't seem that was happening when I went yesterday even though they are advertising that tickets will be resold.

Ah yes I heard this which is why I asked the question. Didn’t think about the new mobile tickets!

That's just my impression anyway, more of a ballache but I didn't seen anyone asking to scan anything or any points to do it in any case.

In a way it's better it ended that way for Serena as it could have been ugly against a better opponent. I hope she sticks with it and rebuild her fitness but if not, a much better memory than what happened last year.

Serena gone. She looked absolutely shot physically. Fair play to Tan. Lovely seeing how thrilling it is for her family.

Tan was signing autographs with her left hand there, despite ostensibly being a righty. The reverse Rafa.

I'm there on the 1st, Roland Garros last month was pretty full in the evening.

Surely it's a default for Nick, and voiding his match winnings? He behaves like a child, and never gets punished enough for it. Admittedly spitting at a person in the crowd, on top of his accusations of racism against the crowd(while playing against a black player no less) at this stage all seem like an idiot on a rant.

At the very least, he shouldn't be allowed to continue disrespecting line judges and the umpire the way he does. You don't have to swear or intimidate someone to deliberately and deeply insult them. Or at least allow them to quip back, because it's ridiculously stupid that they have to stand there and take his abuse.

The man lacks so much self awareness, it is both unreal and absolutely comical. Claims he can't stand hate and negativity, but spews it in bucketloads everywhere he goes.

Agent Djokovic...

On top of that… Cornet came out to say that Covid was rampant at RG among the players yet none followed the protocol or self excluded… and a number of journos questioned Berrettini’s interest in self destroying his best chance ever to win a Slam? I mean, sport is not a fairytale, yet every new peak in cynicism never fails to amaze me!

That second quarter in the men's section is wide open now, which could potentially make room for the first Wimbledon non-seeded semi-finalist since 2008.

Ruud, Baez, Carreno Busta, Dimitrov and Hurkacz are all gone. Only seeds left: Tiafoe, Norrie and Paul.

Norrie losing now too. It's a very good opportunity for Tiafoe in particular but some half decent unseeded players lurking in Goffin, Bublik (if he's serious), Humbert, Mannarino and Vesely about.

Tough to predict who makes it out of that quarter.

Watching Raducanu, it really does look like she is being coached out of her game. She has some insane shots in her locker, but seems to be trying to go toe to toe with the bigger and older women. All these changes, you have to question how she's being handled.

Also doesn't help the commentators and everyone talking nonsense around her. The amount of times these women on BBC1 were talking about her "mental strength". Really?

Goffin is starting to look good again. I can see him going deep here.

Humbled. It’s not her fault at all, but I really dislike the typical hype-train that surrounds her by the British media. It’s painfully annoying.

Maturity comes very late for some, if at all. I don’t know when he will calm the hell down and get the most out of his talent. Maybe it will never happen.

I am guessing her changing coaches a few times on top of probably believing her own hype doesn't help

Was Emma Raducanu's US Open win a bit of a fluke? Whilst it was a massive achievement, do people think this was a one off or does she have the potential for sustained success?

I guess it's probably too early in her career to call it either way. The hype train was in full force last year, but i can't help but feel she needs some consistency in her coaching first and foremost before she can be considered a contender for getting to the latter stages of a slam.
