Ruud wasn’t the rude one tonight. Great to see him ruin Rune.
Yeah, fairly pathetic from Rune. Once the game is over, basic decency needs to kick in. Completely acted like a petulant toddler.
To be honest he's only 19. He'll sort that out hopefully in the next years.
I'd say last year, maybe, not last tournament.Sounds like Roland Garros might be the end for Nadal.
Can’t see Novak retiring without the outright slam record. He will play a couple more seasons for sure. Think he’s counting on being the last great left playing and sweeping up 2/3/4 more titles to take him clear.I'd say last year, maybe, not last tournament.
Finish the game on top. He's a genuine contender for the US if fit, and can just forget the Master's events and the WT Finals.
Wimbledon will be hardest, but only cause of Novak.
Retire at the top.
Novak will probably follow, especially if the other two are not around.
I dunno, that kind of ruins the point, doesn't it?Can’t see Novak retiring without the outright slam record. He will play a couple more seasons for sure. Think he’s counting on being the last great left playing and sweeping up 2/3/4 more titles to take him clear.
The king of grass in Sir Andy Murray is already well into his preparations of conquering Wimbledon once moreRafa better win this as there's a good chance Novax takes Wimby and possibly the Open.
I dunno, that kind of ruins the point, doesn't it?
He's said before he'll play as long as the other two are playing, as it's what keeps him going.
If he plays after them, and just mops up titles, it wouldn't seem like a fair way to the greatest. They thrived against each other, and none would be as great if the others weren't there.
The way they played against each other on Tuesday, we'll probably not see against any other player in the draw.
Novak's obsession with the Slam record is there, though, so maybe he does continue, but I don't see it.
Novak is clearly declining though. In the same way Nadal has.
He's very clearly not the metronome he was a couple years ago, and I'd say he's still going to decline further soon.
NexGen is slowly catching up, not because their level is higher, but because Nadal and Novak's levels are dropping significantly over time.
He's probably still got an AO in him, but I'm wondering if Medvedev will have usurped him on hard next season, and how his motivations will be if he fails to win a GS this season(I'd still say he's favourite for Wimbledon, mind). US vaccine mandates might prohibit if still in effect.
One thing is for sure is that once they retire, tennis on the men's side is about to become a whole lot of boring for a while if Zverev and co. are the top dogs
Nadal had to battle with peak Federer though...Djokovic is declining but he doesn't have to win 3 slams per year like in 2011, 2015 and 2021. However sad part is that his own stupidity will cost him slam record. He was already sort of a villain before 2022, but now he 100% is. Getting booed before the match even starts must suck but most of it is sadly his own fault.
As far as future of tennis goes, old stars get forgotten fast as new starts come along. Sooner or later player with flair never seen before will show up and win few new stars will follow. I remember watching Sampras vs Agassi matches in awe just to be entertain as much/if not more by Hewitt vs Safin matches. Then came Federer, Nadal and Djokovic...
Btw if Djokovic wins few slams after Nadal retires I think that's fair. Nadal won 3 or 4 before Novak's peak. Yeah they are about the same age but Nadal peaked very early.
At the end it will rock, paper scissors scenario. Each guy from big 3 will have strengths and holes in their resumes.
Nadal had to battle with peak Federer though...
Not sure he was challenging when 'peak' Federer was about.Djokovic had to battle him too.
It's the return position. I don't see why he goes so far back. That’s what now, three set points blown?
