Well I was right about it being 3 sets, but can't see Azarenka nicking this.. she needed to take one of those break points...

It felt like this was done but somehow we're back on serve.

OK and now Osaka breaks again and is a game away.

Never lost a game, when she was in a Quarter of a Grand Slam. Quality.
 
Good match, happy for Osaka.

Azarenka's level in the first set and beginning of the second was incredible.
 
Really good final following 2 great semi finals as well. Great to see Osaka at this level, it felt after Australia last year that she was ready to become the dominant force in women's tennis but then she struggled for a while. It's a shame for Azarenka though, she's done amazingly to come back and she was brilliant for the first set and a bit but this is now her third 3 set loss in finals in New York which is tough.

Good final , the quality of ball striking was excellent . Unfortunately we didn't get them playing great at the same time. Now we have to suffer through watching Zverev in the men's final
 
Tonight is a huge night for Thiem, I think if he loses it could be a big blow to his confidence. No Nadal, Federer or Djokovic, experience in slam finals, 7-2 head to head and playing a guy who has hardly been impressive this tournament.

I think he will get the job done fairly comfortably in 3 or 4 sets.

Regardless of the result unless he gets a soft draw I don't think he will win Roland Garros this year.

I can't imagine Zverev not being as nervous. That said the pressure on Thiem is a lot greater as he is the clear favorite unlike his other finals where he was the underdog.

If he let's this slip...... it's one thing losing to Novak, but he should be winning here.

I think he will improve and I don't think Zverev can continue serving as well as he has. I think Zverev taking the first set is good as a neutral anyway.
 
Oh.... what have we here. Thiem has saved his worse for the final....

Think Zverev seems to have a good tactical plan here.

That depends on if the Austrian press is as vicious as ours..
 
Very good set from Zverev. Getting into the net well, serving well and pretty comfortably dealing with Thiem's slice which caused Medvdev problems.

Murray got it from general Tennis circles too. It wasn't just a UK press thing, the fanbase kinda give him grief too. But it's probably more of a hidden respect thing, Murray after 4 losses was better than Thiem is today, by a big margin too.

Zverev breaks again. Can't remember seeing Thiem play this bad.
 
I can't believe this is the same Thiem we've been seeing throughout the tournament... he's absolutely terrible right now.

For me Thiem is nervous. He should have shaken that off by now we into the 2nd set surely?
 
I heard that Thiem was having an ankle problem in the SF. Could this be the reason?
 
I was surprised how relaxed Zverev was after winning the semi final. He made the impression, that he feels zero pressure and loves it. Currently it looks like that wasn't just played or cocky.

Thiem the exact opposite. The pressure of the world on his shoulders and he can't handle it.

Yeah I just said below. He does look really nervous.
