Ten Hag | First MUTV Interview (10am BST) | Press Conference (12pm BST)

Interesting some of the Caf want and expected him to come out and slag the squad off.

You can tell who on here has experience in managing people and who lives in a bubble. Fascinating.
Yeah but you can just arrest the people who don't listen to you. The rest of us have to live with them.

He comes across as really self-assured with a great mentality. Exactly what we need to whip these wasters into shape.

Nothing wrong with his English. Pretty good as its his secondary language. Don't understand why people in Holland were/are mocking his English.
It’s pretty similar to Pep’s. Perfectly fluent, but clearly still a foreign language to him. I wish I spoke my foreign languages to that level.

I saw the interview and I was like ok but after the conference I have to say I'm not happy. Sorry. I want to be positive but honestly he was a sht show.
1) Keeps saying we have a good squad and we came second etc.
2) Asked about transfers - its up to the club but I look forward to working with them
3) Asked what style of football he wants. He says you have seen Ajax. I like that but the players have to feel comfortable and play i their positions etc
4) Asked about Rangnick. He said he will talk to a lot of people and make his own decisions. So no one gives a fk about Rangnick basically.
5) Asked about Maguire and said he will make that decision but Maguire is a great player and has achieved a lot etc

People will say yeah but what did you expect him to say. I expected a bit more umph. For example - It was a bad season and we know we need to improve. I demand big improvements and everyone works hard and together. We will play fast attacking football. I expect high pressing and high workrate. We are losing many players and we need really good replacements that I have identified. I respect Ralf and will talk extensively with him and work with him on the implementation of the plan. etc Thats just an example of being more direct and forceful without being an arse. It can be done.

Basically he just comes across as a yes man. He did not rock the boat or do anything to indicate big changes. Just wants to implement a plan and work all together. Also comes across as soft and just happy to be here. I hope Im wrong and he has a backbone because if he continues like this its player power, Oleball and McFred for next season.

Yep. Sack ETH, sell Cr7

Some people talk a big game but don't deliver. Some keep quiet but handle their shite. Let's hope he's the second.

Ajax and United are both teams with very clear identities as clubs, but how important is it for you to bring your footballing philosophy to Manchester United?

“We don’t have to go over my football. It’s about the Man United football and about the Man United identity and philosophy. I think that you pointed it out: it has to be about attacking football. We have to bring structures in the way of playing, so we can play attacking football".

This part is interesting to me. Is he hinting that he will get us to play a more direct attacking style than a possesion-based style? The direct attacking approach with flying wingers is more in line with our heritage. Maybe our assumption that he will bring the Ajax style of football to Old Trafford was premature.

This is a guy that have coached at Twente, Go Ahead Eagles, Utrecht, and at Bayern and Ajax. He is very used to playing from different cantage points, and relating to very different club cultures and squad qualities. He is known do get people along to do things his way, but also to adapt eell to the players available. He always want to control games and play ‘fantastic football’, though.

So it’s not going to be Tommy Doc or early Fergie wingers, it’s going to be more like Busby Babes and later Fergie wide forwards. Collective and individual skill, daring to dominate, aggressive. But he will adapt to what his players are able to do well, and replace gradually, not wholesale.

Oh, and to ithers - off course he’s gonna show respect for the existing players and talk up their previous achievements as well. He’s not going to do what Brian Clough did at Leeds, which was unsalvageable even for Brian Clough. He probably even read the book.

My guess is that he

That would be my guess too.

Or maybe, as he repeatedly said, it's more important to speak with the club staff and players before making wild statements to the media.

Honestly as much as Ronaldo ended up rising above the dross, I'd rather he left as I feel it's only then that ETH will have the space to stamp his authority on this squad.

It would also go some way in convincing me that we're done with player power at this club

I mean, we could have given it Rangnick and he'd have said everything you wanted him to, before retrieving a tank of gasoline from below his desk and gleefully skipping off to Carrington, matches in hand.

It was widely reported during our pursuit of Ten Hag that his contract talks involved discussion around the amount of power he would have. He's also managed to get all of his desired staff in and move up his own start date. I think we're safe from him being a 'yes man' - in fact based on history we may end up with the opposite problem if the players and board don't bend around him.

Aside from the fact that he did talk about attacking football and pressing and working hard together, I really don't know why him not committing to lean on the Austria NT manager would upset you so much. I'm also confused by your gripe 5.) ... was the hope that he would slag off individual players directly at a press conference?

I worry that Rangnick might have seriously warped people's expectations of how a manager is actually supposed to behave in the press.

This is an absurd post. Serious question, are you 14?

Also, do you remember what Ole press conferences were like? He talked the talked. You have to be able to walk the walk. No one gives a crap what you say to the media. If I went in and said all that stuff, and then obviously didn't implement it because I'm not a coach, would you be happier with that?

He isn’t going to trash everyone before he has met them, he seems to be a person that is t for the media. His comment on CR7 was “I will speak with him then you”. Which is the way it should be, give the guy chance to get his feet under the table, oh and check the YouTube video of him telling Ajax players “you need to shut up” and “this is for the team and not just for you” don’t worry I think soon enough these players are going to find out, he knows we can’t ship them all out in one window so he will play it smart.

So you are surprised he is taking an anti Rangnick route?

Well that might be because Rangnick is the absolute worst coach I've seen in the club.

We were a good club, probably an elite coach a CDM and a CB from challenging for the PL.

But this absolute clown destroyed all our foundations, took out all the willing for the game from every player in the club, even wasting Ronaldo's come back.

He demoralized 15 players, knowing you cannot change those 15 in 1 market, so now ETH has a bigger work to do, having to reignite everyone, and trying to convince Ronaldo to stay.

Even Carrick would've done a better job fighting for the 4th spot.

What fecking foundations after the mess Ole left? I guess people are now making things up just to hate on Rangnick.

When he was asked about his analysis of Palace game, he said he wasn't in charge so he will keep the analysis to himself. In his interview he also said we didn't have good season but finished 2nd before last season, so potential is there and we have to work hard to get it out.

He spoke about attacking football almost all the time, he said he wants his team to dictate the game and play in opponents half. He also said he wants his team to be super high pressing team.

And why should he say "I respect Ralf and talk extensively and work with him"? Maybe he thinks Rangnick is a clown and don't want to take his input?

Only thing he didn't mention is "I demand x number of players". Maybe it's time people come to terms with reality instead of dreaming about fantasy land where manager comes up with Stone cold entrance music, rips apart everyone in PC and then drops the mic. It won't happen.

So now ETH is a yes man? This is the guy who said this before even reaching Old Trafford. Below tweets are from his interview and David Ornstein reported that ETH made demands and he will take up the job only if all of them are met.

Ten Hag has got to where he has in his career due to his vision on implementing a proactive attacking brand of football. But for that vision to come to fruition, he realised that he had to create a harmonious culture in the dressing room where the players would all work hard towards a common goal. Ten Hag will defend his players in public even if it annoys fans, because airing your laundry in public never ends well. Fergie, Klopp and Guardiola like ten Hag were/are the same and what needed to be said and done was done behind closed doors.

I said a while back that Rangnick's so called exposing of the squad would end badly because the players wouldn't respond to him. And that's exactly what's happened, and it all started with Anthony Martial. I want the club to be successful as much as any of my fellow United fans. But if a head coach/manager starts to air the dirty laundry in public, then what we've seen in the last 6 months is going to be the reality with a divided dressing room.

Rangnick had The Athletic's Raphael Honigstein on his pay roll, and could've waited until the end of the season before giving his version of events. But Rangnick decided to go public with the players during the season and it's not a surprise a fractured dressing room became even more fractured and we ended up closer to the relegation zone (points wise) than the top two teams in the league.

What fecking foundations after the mess Ole left? I guess people are now making things up just to hate on Rangnick.

Back to back top 4 is something we hadn't done since SAF left. The season we ended 3rd we were also in a pretty bad spot at one point, so who knows how it would've ended, Ole at least always had these sudden out of nowhere runs of 10 great games.

It wasn't the level we required, but it was a good platform to build from.

Now we have a completely broken team.

Rangnick is a very bad man manager. Social media and snowflake generations are here to stay, that's just occidentalized life. But then you have emotionally intelligent people who adapts to it, like ancelloti having selfies, and those who don't and lose a dressing room in 1 week.

People will say yeah but what did you expect him to say. I expected a bit more umph.

He is not exactly someone who is charismatic in front of the camera, this isn't some secret. Ajax fans have been saying this for a while now.

Let his football do the talking

Twitter cretins on my timeline are upset Ten Hag praised Maguire and didn't slag him off and strip him off the captaincy there and then hahaha morons

Ten Hag probably pissed off some journos too for not giving the slander they wanted...

A good, realistic, straight to the point first press conference from the manager.

Are you really blaming Ralph for a fractured dressing room! I totally agree with not airing your dirty laundry but this is not normal circumstances. Its like an airplane. You dont worry the passengers. Rule 1. But in this case one wing fell off. There is a fire in the hold, the other engines exploded, the cabin is depressurizing and you are hurtling to the ground. If you somehow would survive you would write a complaint blaming the captain for saying something and worrying the passengers!
Fk those players. They went out, got some petrol, poured it over Old Trafford and burnt it to the ground and then sht on it. And now its all but Ralf said some truths and it hurt our feelings. He's the real reason for us doing bad stuff. I want my mummy.
