Tchouameni?

I don’t think they drop him. Valverde seems the odd man out to me if you are going to convince one to leave. No way he wants to play right wing all the time or whatever they were doing.

Maybe should look at him next summer, let's face it they aren't selling the French duo in a million years. Unfortunately we couldn't get either before they went there as only ever wanted Madrid

Not a very good source. But I agree with the gist, he's not so good that you wouldn't listen to offers.

He starts most games, though. Wouldn't be cheap. Not worth it for United IMO.

The type of player we are desperate for. Need some power in the centre of the park.

Another DM that's unattainable for us but he isn't even good enough to warrant the unattainable status at his club and the price Madrid would probably ask for, if they changed their minds about entertaining offers for him.

Buying Casemiro and subsequently letting Rice go to Arsenal was what really "set us back years", even though I usually hate this phrase.

Still, a good number of good DMs were attainable both before and after Rice, and we let all of them join other top teams and we ended up with Ugarte and uncle Casemiro   It's just baffling

Simply a question of high standards I suspect. He's very good while being a step below most of the other midfielders around him. It'd be good practice to consider a sale while his value is high, especially if you're confident your scouting team can find a replacement.

Another DM who isn't great at passing? Just because he is physical doesn't mean he's good.

I’m not his biggest fan, but what I said was he’s the type we need, as in some legs. He wouldn’t be my first choice midfielder.

Who would he replace? Ugarte?

‘He’ being this first choice midfielder that I did not name? Well theoretically, it is difficult to ‘replace’ a player who has started one league game for us anyway. Ugarte hasn’t established himself in the team to be replaced.

That said, first one out of that midfield is Bruno for me, so any midfielder brought in would replace him in the XI if I had my way. That said, it also remains to be seen whether Ugarte has a long term place in our regular XI either.

We would be just bailing out Real who overpaid for him. Just like we bailed out PSG with Ugarte and to a lesser extend Bayern with De Ligt.

How about we concern ourselves more with what any signing does for our own team rather than the selling team? If a player isn’t good enough then that should be the argument. If they are, then there is no argument.

I mean he really hasn't been good in Madrid

He is a much better CB than DM. That is where his future should be I think.

So more or less a bit of a rebuild. He would be expensive though.

United already bailed Real out by overpaying for Casemiro that same summer. This would be more of a bonus.
How they expect us to keep stopping City and Liverpool from winning CL if they don't help us out....

Perhaps he has, perhaps he hasn’t, my point is - if we think he can improve our team then that should be our concern, not what Madrid will so with the money.

It depends really on what happens with Ugarte. But what is for sure, the midfield does not work. There are no two midfielders we have that compliment each other and enhance the other’s qualities.

I really wish we got João Neves. Put a DM behind him and Mainoo and I'm happy.

So we're already looking to replace Ugarte after 3 games?

New day, same chaos.

Being part of a successful club team is wonderful. This guy cost Madrid 80m euros, and has never really showcased why.

When you think of the flack Pogba got and still gets now from United fans, this guy isnt half the player Paul was.

Aye. Let's throw another £70m at Real so they can go and buy the next big thing, whilst we're stuck with another unmotivated disappointment

Fortunately I think INEOS and Barrada wouldn't be interested. I'd like to think we've moved on from throwing millions at Madrid's castoffs so they can fund their next shiny thing. Woodward, Arnold et al would have likely jumped at this, giving them £60-70million and offering him £250k a week.

We should continue trying to hijack Madrid's targets instead, just like we did with Yoro, and hopefully (albeit with a slim chance) we can do the same with the likes of Davies too.

Another Real Madrid cast off? No, thanks.
Yup, we all know how shit Di Maria, Özil, Sneijder, Robben, Makelele, Garay, Ødegaard, Varane, Hakimi, Kovacic, Theo Hernandez, Keylor Navas, Xabi Alonso, Higuain, Kaka, Carvalho, van der Vaart, Huntelaar and Walter Samuel were for their clubs after leaving Real Madrid.

Their "cast offs" are better than almost all of our players in their respective position.

Tchouameni is very good. Someone will be getting a great player at potentially a good price. Problem for him is that the Real Midfield is in desperate need of creativity. A playmaker. The balance of him, Camavinga and Valverde isn’t right. If he could be got at 40m plus add-ons, I think it’d be a great deal.

We’ll definitely be signing a CM for next season. We need someone highly mobile who can play either of the two CM roles in Amorim’s system. Tchouameni can do that to a high level. That said, my first choice would be to go after a player that we’ve specifically identified as ideal, rather than seizing on an opportunity just because it became available. So while I am a Tchouameni fan, it’d be much more encouraging to see us go after an original signing. The player at the top of my list is Ederson from Atalanta, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Hjulmand.

The obvious names on the shopping list (and I’d hope we have some extensive scouting to flesh this out):

CB - Diomande, Inacio
WB - Davies, Frimpong
CM - Ederson, Hjulmand

Pretty sure sales will be needed overall, and could be some big names getting culled. Lord knows where we are financially, after another mess of compensation. I’d expect us to have to move quite frugally and astutely in the transfer market, but if we were ever able to spring for a big signing, then I’d give my left nut for Wirtz in this system.
