Music Taylor Swift

Just going out shopping or to the grocery store exposes a person to pop music like this. Frequently I am using Shazam to find out what pop song is playing in Ralphs (grocery store), and frequently I am surprised ("oh, so that's what this person sounds like?!") I would bet there are several TS songs everyone has heard unless they are a shut-in. The only Miley Cyrus song I can name is Party in the USA, but I only heard that because of the (in)famous video of kids at a Trapped Under Ice / Cruel Hand / Foundation (the latter two's singers are featured) show singing along to it. I can't name a single Beyonce song, but I'm sure I've heard her.

You've 100 % heard Wrecking Ball and Flowers. Most likely Malibu and We Can't Stop too.

I think there’s more to it than that. There’s been a few ear worms by artists in the same genre (Miley Cyrus, Sia, Billy Eilish, Harry Styles) that would have crawled into my brain and taken root during a period when not a single TS tune left any trace. It can’t be a coincidence that so many people keep posting in this thread about her music not being memorable. Maybe it really isn’t memorable?

I think Billie is in a different class personally. The music is great, really innovative at times, and her vocal range and control are outrageous.

I think Billie is a very good songwriter, however I am not a fan of her standard talk-whisper delivery. Love No Time To Die though.

Yeah, I hear you, especially as she has such range. Some of her slower tracks are outrageous timeless classics.

Her songs have been so boring since her debut record

Which ones specifically? The Barbie song is very good but that aside from that I just haven’t found myself loving anything from Billie Eilish. But from an objective pov (as much as I can be), her (and her bother Finneas’) music is of a much higher standard than Swift’s and is fairly original / not generic.

Maybe some weirdo will make a Billie Eilish thread so we don't derail this one. Most of the music in this thread exists in the background for me as the kids played it. The only one I constantly asked who it was, was Bille, because of that higher standard and originality you mention. Happier Than Ever the tune is a great example, starts with the dulcet Julie London style slow crooning, then a really nice jaunty time change as the at the same the tone slowly gives indications it's getting less 'light', until it changes and gets angry. The whole production changes, it morphs into heavy angry college rock seamlessly. And gets lyrically abrasive. I have huge respect for her anger. I think Happier Than Ever is a quality album, with innovative and creative production from Finneas.

Billie Eilish is indeed far closer to GOAT status than Taylor.

It's her name after all, Billie Goat Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell.

A lot of talk about Billie here, she's good and all but if we're gonna talk about a young popular alt-pop artist better than Taylor, let's talk about Lorde. To me her two first albums is at least one or two cuts above Billie's. She had a bit of a mishit on her third album, but I expect her to come back strong on her fourth album.

#46 "Maroon" (2022)

Color reference bonanza on this awesome track.

Please notice the E on the Spotify preview before you press play. Taylor drops the f bomb in this song and there were more swear words on this album than all her previous 9 albums combined.

The way this is growing exponentially, her next album (which is less than two months away) will be requiring a pretty high PG rating.

Looks like La Liga will have to move the entire final week of fixtures thanks to Tay.

I find it odd that I don't know any TS songs. In the past good pop songs by artists I didn't like (or like much) were still universally known e.g. Baby One More Time by Britney Spears or numerous Michael Jackson tunes or Wanabee by The Spice Girls or lots my Lady Gaga. TS is as big or bigger yet anonymous/unknown to a huge proportion of the population.

Maybe it is down to how we consume music now?
Feel completely the same.
