Television Taskmaster

This has been a great season and I'll be sad to see it ends in Thursday although if what I heard is true about the cast for next season I can't wait

That was confusing me at first when watching it live as I thought it was the announcement for series 19 and was wondering where the comedians were?

But it obviously made sense when I saw that was the New Year's special cast. Looks an interesting enough group for those one off specials.

Was totally confusing for me as I had spoilers for the season 19 cast and saw these instead.

Really enjoyed this series, definitely one of the better set of contestants for me.
The Jack and Rosie team was so good to watch.

Didn’t think the tasks were great this series generally but the contestants were a good mix, so still an enjoyable series.

Quite enjoyed the two episodes of junior
Taskmaster so far. The tasks are quite simple (which is a bit of a throwback to the early series of the main show) and the kids haven’t been too overbearing. Mike Wozniak is still extremely entertaining.

Yeah, that's a good summing up of the first two episodes so far.

I wasn't sure whether to give the Junior one a watch - as I don't really find kids funny, even less so if they're trying OTT to be so. But I decided to give it a go because of Mike Wozniak being the assistant. He's been great! Everything that's funny is coming though him. And, as you say, the kids that have appeared so far haven't been too overbearing and the tasks have been decent to watch even if they've had to make them quite basic ones.

Definitely better than I was expecting so far.

Yeah, I was worried about this season initially but happy to be proven wrong. Not an absolute classic but overall a very strong set of contenders that complimented each other well. Only Baba felt a bit out of place from time to time but he still had his share of great moments.

Good season. Think the Australian and New Zealand ones have been better lately but this series was at least good and Rosie got to shine more on this program than a panel show. It was a good mix.

Said he got very close to securing Ayoade, which is pretty new as I think previously it was just said that it wasn't going to happen. Repeated that he thought Stephen Merchant would be perfect but schedule won't line up... and there's some other stuff but I just watched the Greg Davies interview which has made me completely forget everything Alex Horne said. No mention of Taskmaster in the Greg Davies interview but he gives advice to 'young people' to forget going to nightclubs and wear briefs instead of boxers.

Enjoyed that, would have liked to have seen more with those contestants.

Didn’t particularly like Blatt but Hannah Fry and David James were outstanding. Didn’t expect it from the latter, granted, I knew next to nothing about him off the pitch.

I just remembered as mine is coming up in a couple of weeks that you said you were doing this. Was it fun?

We had a blast. The only thing I'd say is that I hoped for a little longer given how expensive it was. But it was good fun. We had a group of 8 and it was about the right sized group.

We can chat about it after you've been and compare notes as I don't want to spoil anything.

Theres 6 of us, do you get put with other people?

Yeah sounds good, we're doing the opposite ones aswel arent we so good to see how they differ

Taskmaster Series 19 contestants announced

Fatiha El-Ghorri, Jason Mantzoukas, Mathew Baynton, Rosie Ramsey, and Stevie Martin

Jason Mantzoukas should be good, but it's often the ones you don't expect that turn out pretty funny.

Probably a record low so far for how many I've heard of / familiar with their comedy style.

Just about heard of three, but can't say I've really seen any of them much. From what I've read, Jason Mantzoukas does sound very promising and people seem very excited by him.

Up until about series 10, I was always familiar with all the contestants - and had mostly seen all of them in plenty of stuff. Since then, there's always been one or two that I don't know before the series. This series marks the lowest so far, but hopefully they'll prove a good group.

Heynong Man. I like Mantzoukas in anything I see him in so he should be great. I don't know any of the others.

I just finished season 16. I can't tell if Lucy Beaumont is actually that way or not.

Having seen her in a few things, I got the feeling that it was part true, and part performing a character.

I think she probably did genuinely struggle with a lot of the tasks (hence coming last), but was playing up some of her confusion / wackiness.

I'm not familiar with the Brits mostly, saw Fatiha on the Big Fat Quiz but holy shit Mantzoukas is a good get. Wonder if he's allowed to be as unhinged as on the podcast.

Who the fark is this Mantzoukas guy?

Is he a thing in the British scene, at all? Or have they started accessing the American talent pool?

He appears on a lot of podcasts here and seems very friendly with Nish Kumar, Ed Gamble and James Acastor. There was always a rumour he was doing it as he mentioned during a podcast he was staying in a hotel in UK while filming was going on for the season

Him and Paul Scheer have even talked about how much they love Taskmaster in the past on their own podcast
