Television Taskmaster | Series 18 starts tonight

Wozniak, Sally Philips, Rhod Gilbert, Phil Wang, Baddiel and Gamble as a double act, Morgana Robinson (she's gorgeous) Ardal for all his shit stirring and Kearns and Christie.

Forget bottom 5, what's top 5?

I'd go

1. Bob Mortimer
2. Mike Wozniak
3. John Kearns
4. Rhod Gilbert

My top 4 is basically nailed on, then it's a toss up between Sally Philips, Mel Giedroyc, James Acaster, and Joe Wilkinson (for the potato scene alone).
Gilbert is number 1 for me, felt like he broke Alex and Greg.

His first ever task having Alex in the bikini, then he steps into the shot and he’s also in one.

Loved Rhod on the show!

He got perhaps the best ever double-take out of Greg in this task!

Also loved Rhod and James going back and forth arguing over every task!

I loved that one! The fact he thought it was the ongoing joke of the naked photo of him, and it was his mum in the bath.

Best contestants for me are Wozniak, Bridget C, Gilbert and probably Mortimer.

That final task has to be up there as one of the least creative yet. As others have said, the laugh track is so bad this season too. Perhaps it's finally showing signs of running it's course.

As for Rosie, she isn't my cup of tea with the style of humour, but her and Jack are in a completely different league than the other three.

Dee should have been on earlier with better people around him. He can dead pan the shit out of anyone at his level, doing it with this lot just seems too easy for him.

The two finale tasks have been shocking so far. Absolutely no skill or strategy in the one tonight.

Hopefully the tasks will pick up but so far it looks like they really struggled to find interesting tasks to take into account Rosie’s limitations.

That said, I’m quite enjoying the contestants so far. Some good camaraderie and the awkward introductions between the group of 3 were entertaining. Jack Dee and Rosie is like an excitable puppy paired with a weary sheepdog.

They can't all be bangers, in fairness.

They have a remarkable hit-rate really. 18 seasons and another handful of specials/clash of champions etc. They've probably had to make well over a thousand tasks now and that's only the ones shown on TV. There are probably loads that were filmed and not even shown.

Don't think it helped that it took until the 2nd half of the episode to properly get going after the costume stuff, a sort of half-task and the team introductions. The first one was decent so hopefully this was a one-off.

The live tasks are a bit disappointing though. Was watching series 4 and 5 of the NZ version recently and they seem to be more fun/interesting.

That wheel task at the end. Awful stuff. I didn’t even know what the rules were. Having to spin it on the right thing like 8 times in the end? One of the worst he’s ever come up with.

No strategy, no humour, no point.

Even designing it so that the later rounds they'd end up spinning the same wheel 7, 8, 9 times... there's no way they screentested it.
It felt similar to the 'Horse or Laminator' game - which again was based on luck rather than strategy. That was rescued by Jo Brand fluking so many right in a row - and Greg's reactions to it as it progressed. I guess the same thing could have happened here for the final contestant. But if it doesn't, and it's likely it won't, then it becomes a pretty dull game.

So not the kind of games they should use very often - though I guess they're deemed handy for the live task when you've got some contestants who aren't very mobile.

A much, much better episode, that. Makes you wonder why they stack one show with obviously rubbish tasks when they could just distribute the stinkers over three or four episodes and have a better average episode as a result.

The pub task was fantastic and the entire cast has been excellent. Emma for me has been the best but it's been good to see they are all really entering into the spirit.

Ruined by the 5 points awarded to everyone though. Some were clearly better than others.
True. For me Emma deserved 5 points. Baba and Rosie didn't deserve full 5 points. Also I am against only 1 contestant getting 5 points in live tasks.

I actually thought the pub quiz was a bit of a mess and didn’t really make much sense.

5 points to everyone is the same as 0 points for everyone, which was a shame after so much effort went into it. Emma was the clear 5 pointer, 4 for Guernica, 3 for Van Gogh, 2 for Banksy and 1 for the soup.

Ambition should have been rewarded.

Totally agree with this

Emma - 5, Easily the best. And a pretty obscure choice
Andy - 4 for ambition to attempt it in the first place, let alone do a decent job
Jack and Baba - 3 for decent recreations
Rosie - 2 for the Sam Campbell/Campbell Soup thing. Otherwise 1

No idea why the live task ended as soon as someone completed it. Surely could have carried on until all completed or got disqualified. I imagine the live audience being bored as feck watching it thought, so they wanted to end it as soon as possible. The live tasks have been shit for ages now. They'll have to do away with them at some point.

Reckon show ends once we get a champion of champions of champions. So 6 more seasons to go after this one…plus a couple of champion of champions and maybe a few new year treats. Essentially it’ll be done in about 4 years.

So after 25 seasons, will there be champion of champions of champions?

Nothings obviously been announced about it, but at that point they’ll have 5 champion of champions…and it’s got to end somehow, champion of champion of champions seems a good way to finish it
