Tanguy Ndombele | Spurs player

New signings usually get around 5 games to prove to Jose they belong. If they fail, he'll dump them on the bench for 3 years.

The truly great managers are the ones who have the patience required to keep picking an underperforming talent with big potential, until it all finally clicks into place. Winning trophies that way is one of the requirements to be a truly great manager.

Dumping a 60 million signing on the bench after 5 bad games, and demanding another 60 million to replace them, is charlatan territory.

Eugh, NO generation reacts well to criticism ffs.
Tired of people grouping everyone together. I grew up being flogged with a cane and horse tail at school and I am Just 28. How many of the "older generation" can take that?

His attitude was also criticised at Lyon. He often showed up in big games but didn't look arsed against smaller opposition.

Perhaps, but you could get away with it 10-20 years ago way more than you can now.

It's quite clear people need to be managed differently these days. Old School Army general type of managers just don't work.

He looks better than Fred did in his first season... I'll reserve judgement till next season but for sure needs to up his game given the other midfielders spurs have.
He's no dembele so for though

Just saying, it’s a weird hill to die on considering Jose Mourinho has been spot off about anything football related in the past 3 years or so.
Clearly was massively overrated when he arrived, is visibly slacking, but it's Jose's fault to voicing what we all can see? It really is an odd thought process some people go through.

SAF always said players need a season to bed themselves in the premier league and are not going to play a pivotal role in their first season.

Evra first game SAF said after the shit performance you know what it's like and to adapt to it.

Jose Mourinho is not the motivator he once was, now he is the manager wanting his last pay cheque.

If you want to know who the frauds are on this forum look no further than the ones who pretended to know anything aboht this player. Unless you live in France, no one is watching enough Lyon games to have a valid opinion on this guy.
I'm in Manchester and watched quite a lot of Lyon because I was a huge fan of Fekir. Ndombele also stood out when I watched them last year. I still think he's a good player, and plenty of good players have took their time adapting to the league. Some good players never settled here in England.

Remember City scouts didn't recommend him because his game was in their eyes only about being physical and that's it. Like I said before: think this summer or January he moves to Monaco or Seria A. It's always suspicious when players like Ndombele or Pepe are linked with those 8,9 biggest clubs in Europe but then join Arsenal, Spurs, Roma etc. Sometimes one of those blink first (Barca-Malcom) but there's a reason why no other club offered 55M.

Happens countless times with pretty much every signing from a foreign league. It's very rare for a player to jump into a new league and have an immediate impact.

NDombele was quality for Lyon and made an immediate impact on his move from Amiens, he's got all the tools to be a beast of a player as many of us saw last season, hence why Tottenham forked out so much money for him.

Jose can do no wrong in some peoples eyes when the reality is he's completely lost his way of motivating players which results in him slamming them in the press which quickly follows with him losing the dressing room. It's just normally this happens mid way through year 2 of his tenure. We're witnessing Jose breakdown in record speed

I remember a certain individual on here, on the highest horse imaginable.... his club playing the CL final and investing heavily in players like Lo Celso and this chap over the sumner, still with Pochettino at the reigns when every other club supposedly wanted him...... and 9 months later the club is managed by Mourinho and NDombele is shit.. so sorry man, but it’s priceless.

Not a dig at Spurs really, as United are literally just as screwed this season, but it just goes to show how quickly things change in football, even when the foundation seems ok. Mourinho really needs to win next week, which will most likely put Spurs above United again and then the spotlight will once again return to our manager. After this and the next round, either Spurs or United should be 9th in the table... crazy times.

How did this guy even get a job with another "top 6" team in England anyways?

Is levy really prepared to splash the cash this summer with what jose wants?

Seems like a very poor fit right from the start. The only thing that made sense was how convenient it would be to appoint Mourinho since he was immediately available and probably willing to take a paycut.

Scathing analysis of his first half 'performance' on MNF

Laughable from Ndombele

Yeah, that was really scathing. I thought Jose was being too harsh, but looking at that analysis it was not that far off. Not sure what Ndombele was playing at.
It just shows how important it is to look at player's attitude on the same level as player's talent when signing them.

Some stats from that 45 minutes

Attempted tackles: 0
Attempted interceptions: 0
Sprints: 0
Times he received the ball off the CB: 2

Why do these comparisons with Fred keeping popping up? People's dislike for Jose means they're disagreeing with him, even when what he says is absolutely spot on.

He's been massively disappointing even if he's struggled with injuries. With Mourinho you either step up and play with courage or you don't and he's ruthless towards you. He's a special talent but he needs to wake up.

Then they are the worst scouts around, he has actually been criticized for not using his physical qualities consistently. He wants to play with the ball but don't want to be involved in the physical part, at the exception of big games.

Yeah, must be worst ever scouts if anyone who watched Ndombele came up with that conclusion.

Remember watching few videos on twitter, his off the ball work rate was very poor. He barely moved, maybe that's the reason why Jose doesn't trust him. This is something that he should work on for sure, if that twitter video is anything to go by.

I was reading some Spurs forums and apparently he hasn't settled in London that well/didn't really want to move to England but was offered a decent payday to do so. Not sure how much of that is true but he hasn't put in many great performances with or without Mourinho there.

Would anyone still take him at Utd if we could pick him up for say £20 million? He's still a young player and If fancy Ole getting more out of him.

Pepe isn't doing so well too. Seems like you should be wary of Ligue 1 players and scout them properly.

This has nothing to do with Ligue 1. Pépé was never someone that should have gone for that fee and we are talking about a player that has never played a continental game before this season, he was good in Ligue 1 but had question marks over his head. Ndombélé has been injured a lot with Tottenham and it has nothing to do with Ligue 1.

And you should always scout players properly otherwise you can easily end up with a Andy Carroll, Drinkwater or Vincent Janssen among other flops.

Don't think that is at all surprising. All the comments about how his fitness supposedly improved in lockdown and Mourinho isn't even picking him off the bench. If they sell him, they are going to make one hell of a loss.
They should loan him out for a season. Jose will probably get himself fired by then.

He is obviously very talented and I really want him to get a chance with us however he has never appeared to be fully fit, has been unable to complete 90 mins since he got here and that is unforgivable for a modern player. He needs to knuckle down, get focused, get fit and then he will get chances. Very disappointed in him so far despite really liking the stuff I see when he does play.

Also Malcom, Kondogbia, Bakayoko, Lemar, Batshuayi, Seri, still question marks about B. Mendy, Fabinho, Tolisso... Way too many expensive failures from Ligue 1 in recent years.

Question marks about Fabinho?

Spurs got bumped. £110m for him and Lo Celso.

Poor in first season and started only 16/30 games this year. I know he had some great games but would be quite reactionary to already call him a star.

Bakayoko was a failure in Ligue 1, Malcom was never worth that money or ready for a club like Barcelona, Kondogbia has been good everywhere and hasn't been expensive, Batshuayi was also never worth the money spent because only good for 6 months in France. So you basically have Lemar and Seri.

And you have excuses.

Excuses? I said these things before the transfers even happened. Lemar and Seri are the only failures in your list the rest weren't particularly good, some like Bakayoko were trash and Kondogbia has been good and not expensive. It's a mystery why some clubs spend a fortune on players that never put an entirely good season together though.

Yes, i'd take him. Very good technique and vision. He showed more than enough talent at Lyon, some excellent performances in the CL for example. The issue was he got unlucky and joined Tottenham just as they imploded.

Has Bakayoko been good? Thought he flopped mostly whilst he was here.

I said that he was trash in France and he was still trash outside of it. It would be like a foreign club signing Lingard for 40m and then people saying that PL players are failures because Lingard has never been a good player.

Ah right, yeah fair enough. Out of curiousity, are there any current players in the french league you feel would be a big hit in Premier League? I'm curious to see how Saliba will be at Arsenal.
