Needs to take his chance here, So far hasn't looked that good.

I reckon he will be the most impressive tonight personally. Can see him tearing them apart down the left wing.

Man Utd 1:0 Astana
Reminds me of Ji Sung Park.

Purely because he has the same knack of falling over every 5 minutes.

Got nothing against the kid, I just think hes not good enough. Wonder how he will be, he doesn't appear to excel at any particular skillset either.

He can find a man with a simple square pass. That's about it . He doesn't really skill players up, he's not rapid, he's not tall, he's just there.. existing on the pitch.

I'm not saying he'll never make it at Utd or totally writing him off, before anyone accuses me of that.

But the bits I've seen of him he hasn't looked very good and I thought he was terrible tonight.

I get similar feeling.

Well he was terrible! Just seems a bag of nerves. Needs to shape up quickly, as chances for a young left winger are unlikely to be flowing at the moment.

I was hoping to see the Chong from pre-season tonight, where he was electric.

His stature lets him down unfortunately, lanky thin wingers don't really cut it. They have it in them to dribble at pace and run fast, but their lack of balance at that speed compared to small wingers takes away the ability to pass well consistently.

I don't see any explosive talent in him. I don't think he'll end up being a bad player, but I don't see a future for him here either. He'll be gone to an average league in 2 years imo.

First start for the kid, it happens. He's the type of player who is going to be inconsistent as feck for a while anyway until he puts it all together, today was a bad day but he'll have much better ones.

He's a bag of nerves and it's showing in his performance. He's alot better than what he's shown tonight.

Looked clumsy.

Needs to go on loan i feel.

Gomes and Greenwood are ahead of him. By far as well.

He couldn’t get in the game at all which is a shame. He’ll have better days.

It wasn't his day at all. The fierce competition means he may not see too much game time.

There’s a player in there somewhere no doubt, but he’s not even close to being ready. Been a complete bag of nerves every time he’s been in the first team. Worry about his mentality.

Really poor tonight, but it's one game and hopefully he will learn from the experience.

Not a good game, needs another chance though to see if he can redeem himself. Bad games happen, he looked frustrated in the 2nd half that things weren't clicking.

He didn't perform well, but is a great opportunity to improve playing against men rather than kids.

Eurgh, terrible. He lost the ball way too often and offered very little other than that. But most worrying is that I still can't work out what kind of a player he is.

He did not play well and these guys were like a pub team. Gomes looked much better i felt.

It’s hard to see what he has that gives him a chance at this level, feels like he is just there making up the numbers.

Will get more games and with some regularity now with Europa and League Cup so hopefully gives better account of himself.

But what kind of player? I'm no expert with our youth team, but each time I've seen him play he always strikes me as a Ji-sung kind of winger but without the Korean's low centre of gravity.

Seen him a few times now and have to say he looks a bit rubbish. He always seems to be falling over whenever he tries to do anything with the ball. Looks poor technically, looks well below Gomes and Greenwood.

I doubt he will ever be a wide player. I like his character, he looks like he cares and he looks interesting character, but I don't think he has the talent for big team.

Was utterly awful tonight & every time I’ve seen him play for us he hasn’t looked good enough. It’s obvious Gomes has a chance, & equally obvious that Chong doesn’t

Pity him. United just seems too big for him right now. Looks totally panicked out there. Maybe needs a loan and more exposure to real pressure to get ready.

Usually you see glimpses of outstanding ability in youth, but they can't perform at that level consistently. I genuinely don't see anything potentially great in him - he's not that good of a dribbler, he's not even that fast etc.

Maybe he shows something different in training though and, of course, perhaps he'll magically step up a few levels in a year as every player has a different curve of development. But I doubt it.

He defo looks behind both gomes and Mason. Hes 19 going onto 20. Do think a loan could help him but his build does seem weird. Think LW is where hes looked most comfy however but hes quite behind a few of our players for that position.

Chong was absolutely shocking tonight, on par only with Matic. He is simply not that good a player, apparently.

He’s looked a lot more dangerous and decisive for our U23’s and shown he’s able to finish! However, he really lacked confidence tonight; played it safe and even that went wrong

Felt for him. He's nowhere near good enough to be playing here right now.

He'd benefit from a season or two on loan to try and improve his game in a less pressured situation.

This is poor form from United.

He is a talented lad who has been thrust forward in his development because this fraud of a club are peddling the narrative of ‘young & British”.

I don’t know how he’ll eventually turn out but if there are not other players under 23 that could have come in this summer to reinforce this attack I’m amazed.

He’s not ready for the 1st team & when he does come in his experienced counterpart is a 21yo winger, come striker.

Worst type of game for him, facing a bus he really had no idea what to do. We cant give up on our best youngsters this quickly though. A loan to the dutch league would do him a world of good.

Now this is a good post, agreed!
