Apparently targeted by United in a £12m deal. Probably a load of bollocks though. Nothing said in the two articles that we are actually interested.

For any of those that 'spreken ze Deutsche', what does his name mean? Someone told me the other day, and I wondered if anyone could corroborate?

The german Alan Smith!!!! :wenger: He will be 24 this year which is 25 next and he will already have peaked!!! When we sell him on 3 years later he will be worth pocket money! Not good business

Jokes aside, it would be an interesting signing. He's one of the top wingers in europe with a style of his own. I hope he would melt in well in our team with his fighting spirit. The only worry is how big the ego is.

 Excellent post.

I'd be happy if you bought him, Podolski and Klose for about 60M euros.

Good player but has not fullfilled his potential.

Not a patch on Ronaldo.

I think he would like it

Is the bit in bold a joke? Muppet, players don't peak at 24. (Also - "one of the top wingers in europe" -)

Seriously though, Schweinsteiger is quick, strong and decent technically, but nothing more. He is not near the technical ability to replace Ronaldo as the linked articles suggest.

Overrated player, I don't want him anywhere near United. £12m would be a joke as well, he only has one year of his contract left.

I'd agree. He is overrated. He is not consistent enough. He does be in and out of the game. His crossing can be great one match, and shite the next - tonight was a perfect example.

Thanks for the varied replies. Yeah, they thought it 'Pig Mounter' and were using it in the biblical sense of the word. So I guess it's close.

And as for my poor grasp of German, blame Google.

He may be a little inconsistent but his performaces for Germany show his ability. I think he'd be worth a shout at that sort of money. Even tonight he looked lively and was certainly the most likely German player to cause problems.

He has the physical attributes to suceed in the PL as well which is a big plus. Fergie may think he can get the best out of him.

I agree with that much, but there isn't a chance we could sign any player for that, automatic price increase for United means he would be £18 million at least, and not worth it.

Obviously he has qualities. But he is certainly not good enough for United. His main attribute is his crossing (now and again) and that isn't necessary to be a midfield player at united as we have no tall strikers and not many of our goals will come from crosses anyway. And Nani is a better crosser of the ball anyway.
I don't hear any top clubs being linked to him and there's a reason for that.

No tgood enough to replace Ronaldo as someone we could rely on week in week out, back up/rotation maybe...

Looked very much to me like his bottle went tonight. Stopped taking free kicks after a couple of bad deliveries, don't like to see a player put pressure on a team mate rather than himself. Not a good sign

The lad has talent but is not what we need. To suggest he can be the replacement for Ronaldo is just stupid. We have a future talent in Nani that to me looks as skillful as Ronaldo just that needs time to improve his game.

Anyway Bayern is not interested in sell any of their germans stars.
