Anelka would be an excellent buy for Liverpool at £4m. In fact he will be an excellent buy for whoever goes for him. If we are to sell Berbatov next Summer I wouldn't really mind us taking a look at him.

Other stories from today included Pogba turning down £15k a month and Vidic + Rio being let go in the summer.

£15k a month? That seems like a crap wage for a footballer. No wonder he might have turned it down.

From what I have heard its 15k per week which is good enough as he is still young.

15k for a teenager, unproven at highest level and who is not ready yet. Seems like a hell of a lot of money for me.

It's good money from my point of view as well but he's a professional footballer, very promising as well, and he'd likely have to commit for three or four years with that new contract. By the time it runs out he will either be a first team player or out of the club, so accepting a typical wage for an 18-year old shouldn't really be the case here.

If he is successful his contract will be renegotiated. 15 grand is more than fair.

15k is the standard for a United youngster though. It's what Gibson,OShea, Fletcher etc earned at first. And yes it's a bit unfair that a guy like Jones comes in and earns 55 a week but that's life.

I don't think it's unfair at all. Jones is playing regularly in the first team. Pogba is miles away.

Young players usually have a clause in their contracts which states that once they have played in a certain amount of first team games they instantly get a pay rise without any need for negotiations.

Roughly £4000 a week is a good wage for Pogba. If he breaks into the first team then his wages will increase to reflect his new status.

Hernandez recently signed a new contract even though he'd only been with the club a year.

Other stories from today included Pogba turning down £15k a month and Vidic + Rio being let go in the summer.

Just read that in The Times (written by Duncan Castles). Apparently, Vidic is already being hawked around Europe, after SAF became irked with his attitude to being left out.

"Chelsea may offer England midfielder Frank Lampard to Tottenham as part of a deal to bring Luka Modric to Stamford Bridge."

Well, good luck with that AVB .... you'll need it.

I read on the Mirror's site that City are interested in Jordi Alba and apparently we are watching him as well.

The Vidic thing is surely bullshit, we don't look secure without him these days.

Manchester United chase PSV Eindhoven starlet Jetro Willems as Patrice Evra replacement - Transfer News - MirrorFootball.co.uk
Manchester United are chasing Holland’s wonder boy Jetro Willems – as Sir Alex Ferguson looks for the next Patrice Evra.

Ferguson sent his brother Martin, a United scout, on a spying mission to watch the 17-year-old left-back play for PSV Eindhoven at the weekend, teeing up a quick move for the teenager.

Willems joined PSV from Sparta Rotterdam at the end of August, but could be on the move again if Fergie thinks the time is right to act before rivals get their act together.

The star Holland youth international has already played 20 senior matches in Dutch football – catching the eye of top clubs in England and Europe.

Fergie does not have an obvious player to groom for Evra’s role within the Old Trafford ranks.

And he could swoop soon for Willems, who signed a three-year contract at PSV, rather than wait for his price to rise.

Willems would be eligible for United’s Europa League campaign if they do *business in the New Year market.

United are likely to watch him again before the next transfer window opens, but he is a live target.

Very Brave.

Here is some Boxing Day shite.

HERE WE GO AGAIN

With the January transfer window on the horizon, you should probably brace yourselves for some new sagas to emerge and irritate the p*ss out of you for the entire month.

Or, if there aren't any new ones, the papers will simply dredge some old ones up.

Step forward The Daily Mail, who report that Manchester United are once again interested in Luka Modric.

With United's problems in midfield well documented, the paper claims Spurs are looking to tie Modric down to a new contract to try and ward off interest from United.

Apparently there is a 'growing fear' that Modric could be tempted by a massive wedge of cash that the wage structure at Spurs simply cannot provide, so the sooner he signs a new deal the better for them.

Of course, there is nothing to stop Modric signing on increased terms now, then when United/Chelsea/whoever start making their interest serious, stamp his feet, demand a move, go on strike or whatever and render Tottenham's efforts pointless.

CHELSEA CAN GET KAKA

Balls out time in The Daily Star, who report that Chelsea have 'been told they can land Brazillian superstar Kaka for a cut-price £22m.'

Crikey.

The paper reports that Jose Mourinho has decided Kaka is not the man for him, and wants rid of the Brazilian who arrived in Madrid but a couple of years ago for a whacking great £55million.

And the paper claims, rather unsurprisingly, that Roman Abramovich is the 'driving force' behind any move for Kaka, and obviously this is fine, as Roman pushing for an expensive superstar that Chelsea arguably don't need or fits in with their system has never gone wrong in the past, has it?

Anyway, the Star reckons it could be part-funded by the sale of Florent Malouda, who is apparently wanted by Anzhi.

PSG and Milan are both also reportedly interested in Kaka.

NO CITY MOVE FOR DE ROSSI

Roberto Mancini still seems to think Manchester City need another midfielder, but it doesn't look like it will be Daniele de Rossi.

Mancini said, when asked about the prospect of signing the Italian:

"I don't think so. De Rossi was born in Rome and it's unlikely that he'll leave the city.

"There are players that could be good for us. But every time we want to buy a player their clubs ask for lots of money."

Interestingly, Mancini went on to suggest that he must get rid of a few players before he can bring anyone in during the January transfer window.

"We need to sell two or three players and then we'll see," said Mancini.

"Until now we have been lucky because we haven't had any big injuries.

"I hope it can be like that in January but if not, we may have time to buy someone. It's not easy though. I asked the owner for Messi but it's not possible!"

BENT NOT FOR SALE

Stand by some words from the gob of Alex McLeish that your average Villa fan might actually appreciate.

When asked about the potential sale of Darren Bent, Eck said:

"A striker of Darren's ability would be difficult to replace," said McLeish.
"His goals last season were a vital part of Villa's season in terms of keeping them up. I wouldn't think anybody can afford Darren. I wouldn't think so.

"It would send out the wrong message unless we went out and signed Luis Suarez or something. Even suspended for eight games, I'd have him."

He added: "I wouldn't be tempted to lose any of the strikers. That was something that badly affected Birmingham City last year.

"We lost Nikola Zigic after the Carling Cup final and Obafemi Martins breaking his leg was a massive blow to that club. People say that strikers make the difference in this league."
