Summer Transfer Window

Stupid question and some silly posts given the ownership situation and current lack of funds available. People thinking we will sign any five players, let alone the 5 OP suggested us ludicrous. I'd rather we prioritise the best available option in 2-3 positions than try to sign another 5-6 players.

Groundbreaking

I would like to get in:
- Raya (gk)
- Kim (cb)
- Timber (cb, rb, cm)
- Rice (cm)
- Mount (cm, am, wings)
- Kane (striker)
- maybe young back-up striker

Sell:
- the ones everybody is already mentioning.

We should install a task force who are responsible to sell out the non-MUFC-quality players till August. If they can’t do it, they lose their jobs:

-Henderson
-Maguire
-McTominay
-Donny VdB
-Elanga
-Martial
-Weghorst

This clears up places and wages and removes annoyed mood among the fans.

Well Weghorst does not need a task force to be sold as he has been on loan, imagine us renewing his loan, that would be something to behold.

If we get Kane, Rice, Kim and Mount(which is likely to happen soon), I'd say it would be great transfer window. while not being unrealistic. Obviously 6-7 players need to leave, the usual suspects.

In:
David Raya
Frimpong
KMJ
Caicedo
Eze
Kane

Out:
Elanga
DvdB
De Gea
Maguire

Also, why not snap McAllister when he has a release clause way below 60M?

Yes, true. I just meant we as a club need to be more relentless when it comes to shifting out non performers. At other top club those lads wouldn’t survive two seasons while we always seem to carry players for half a decade.
Agree with the signings, although I‘d prefer a younger striker.

Just the £350 million on new players then!

If the budget is £100 million this summer and £60 million is going on Mount that doesn't leave much to play with. possibly only looking at one more signing after Mount.

Safe to say the budget reports was bullshit
We seem to be going all out for Ten Hag this summer so let’s see what we can do

  • Mount
  • Hojlund
  • Rabiot
  • Diogo Costa
A window like this would leave me fecking delighted tbh. Seems the strongest rumors are these guys as well. Would prefer Lavia in for Rabiot, but given the sale situation and Rabiot being a free, can't complain about that.

What sort of fee is being mentioned for Costa?

I was very impressed with Mount a couple of years ago and thought he and Foden were going to be stars at the Euro Cup. He's fallen since but his technical skills are just about world class. I think ETH would be able to get the most from him and this would fortify our midfield and give Bruno good competition. I like it!

there's no real denying that mount is technically a very good player but are his defensive duties good enough for what we need? we can't continue to allow Casemiro to be the lone defender in the midfield

to me this is just bringing in a younger version of Eriksen

If we replace Fred and Scott with Mount and Caicedo/Rice though, we’d be able to start Casemiro, Caicedo, Mount and Bruno at the Etihad if we thought that would be the right thing to do. Or Casemiro, Mount and Bruno at home to Reading in the FA Cup.

When have we ever bought any proven players cheaply? The list of players & prices being mentioned seems far too unrealistic barring a miracle.

Kane: 120mil (even if they risk losing him on a free in a year's time, when has Levy ever sold below his asking price?)
Rice: 120mil (I'm sure Moyes mentioned that as an asking price).

Just those 2 players alone would cost over 200 mil, at the very least.

And also, when people talk about players being sold, we also need to consider their wages:
Martial: frankly, unsellable, no one would pay money for someone on such high wages and so injury prone
Maguire: maybe he could be sold, though I'm doubtful, only way that could happen is if he's willing to take a paycut out of his 180k per week (think he may be willing just for his England career)
McTominay: probably the most sellable player we have, 20-30 mil?
Fred: Probs not, getting older, double McT's salary, frankly not that appealing to clubs
Bailly: Incredibly injury prone, he can't even get the club that loaned him to fork out for him, who else would be willing to come in for him?
Telles: Not sure, TBH don't know how well he's done during his loan
Williams: Maybe, but 65k a week for a player that hasn't really played in the first team for the last 2 years, so we're getting 5-10mil max
Donny: 120k for an invisible man on the pitch...... the only saving grace is that he's actually played well for Ajax before......
Sancho: even if we're willing to sell, who would fork out 350k plus transfer fee?

We'll probably need to pay off part of the contract for most players that we want to sell........

McTominay: probably the most sellable player we have, 20-30 mil?

Surely, Rashford is our most sellable and valuable asset. Sancho might be up there as well, even if he has depreciated in value.

I get what you're saying though! Out of all those we might be willing to sell, McTominay and Henderson are probably our most sellable and valuable assets. They are British and homegrown, young, and have the qualities to play in the Premier League.

Could do with getting some players in as soon as possible. We need to avoid chasing 1 player all summer just to end up paying what they wanted on deadline day and then missing a few games of the season.

Which is exactly what we need. Can he play that role in a double though? I’d say we need another CM aswell. Someone on the physical side who can control games and get from box to box. An eriksen type player is alright when you’re playing bottom halve teams. Against the top teams you need more physical and energy.

Oh yeah we definitely still need someone capable of covering for Casa, feel that could be Rabiot but know he's not a natural DM

Bit odd how AWB is ending the season as first choice if he's to be sold in the summer.

It's not like we're bringing him in for certain games to combat a tricky winger, he's starting every game.
Suppose it's not that odd if ETH wants to upgrade but AWB doesn't want to be second choice though.

Agree! Adding Rice or Kane on top of that would be a crazy window, but unrealistic.

Rice is off to Arsenal or Bayern. We won’t get him.

350 mil of outlay there just in transfer fees.

Pick 3 or 4 of those and you might have our window.

agreed 100%....we get away with having Eriksen now against teams from the bottom half b/c we control the game which is why the Mount thing is puzzling. We need a bit more grit and energy alongside Casemiro in taht double pivot we play most of the time as Bruno tends to chase the ball like a dog.

you look at our current midfield...

Bruno, Scott, Fred, Eriksen, Casemiro, Sabitzer, Donny

You have 5 very similar guys in Scott, Fred, Eriksen, Sabitzer(on loan) and Donny

Casemiro and Bruno are the only two specific type of mids we have who play a settled role

Rabiot...in particular his momma...is a headcase so i just don't see Erik wanting to deal with that after dumping Ronaldo

Costa would be a good signing...Rabiot on a free is a no-brainer...Hojlund would be a good signing as a backup but he doesn't get us to the next level...and Mount I'm completely indifferent towards.

If those four players make up our summer we're not improving on our 3rd place finish next season IMO. Really don't see what there is to be delighted about for this lot, other than Costa.

Looking at how things are shaping up I’d say we should have at least the budget to cover 5 new signings, especially if you consider Rabiot is available on a free.

The current wish list is below (minus revenue received for current squad members sold) but Mount signing for us already sounds imminent.

Rasmus Højlund£52m
Benjamin Pavard£17m
Mason Mount £74m
Diogo Costa£65m
Adrien Rabiot£0
Total spend = £208m

Would be crazy to add only Rasmus in a team that scored few goals. We need a prolific striker, not a prospect.

The line between dream mode and reality mode is a bit fuzzy. Here's the deal: we've been a club more or less in shambles since the Moyes took the helm from Ferguson. Once we brought in Fellaini it was no easy task to bring in top names IN THEIR PRIME to join the United. But we've someone brought in Bruno, Casemiro, Martinez and Rashford has joined the world class club and of course we finally have a manager. What I'm saying is that we are now a realistic top destination for top players and can have a serious conversation with players like Kane. And even if we fall just short of Kane to fill our needs we have a manager who do a lot of 8/10 players even if we can't get 10/10 players such as Kane. And if we do bring in Kane, that's a powerful signal to other top players that we're serious about a title challenge next season.

Nobody gets us competing with city next season for the league, realistically. Hojlund has potential to be the perfect striker for us and would start for us already. You gotta get talents like that early. Other strikers are far pricier and aren't even better, of the realistic ones.

Mount essentially gives us eriksens ability on the ball and Fred's energy off it in one player who is 24 only, so I'm all for that.

Repeating a 3rd place finish but significantly reducing the age of our squad, improving the play style, bring more dominant and fighting for the cups is our realistic target next season. We were lucky in a sense to get 75 points this year's our play didn't really warrant it but that was largely down to fixture congestion. If we improve our underlying play where we compete on all fronts and actually show consistent dominant play over the season then that's a big step up. That is what the next step is for us. And that's only achievable by reducing our average age by a bit to build to be able to take that eventual step to compete for the league. We could do it in an arsenal sense of having no distractions and having a lot fall your way, but realistically that's not happening.

Where the hell you getting 74m for mount? It's not gonna be higher than 50 or 55m.
