Suggestion: Tweets only | Implemented - all feedback here please

can we not just have the January transfer thread and the Twitter Speculation merged. Most of it is just rumours anyways.
If people want to discuss the stories more then go to the players thread

What exactly did you say in the twitter thread? I'm guessing there's some sort of confusion with how to handle thread bans in the forum. I'm of the view that any threadbans in there should be on a sliding scale, short ban and if repeat occurrences then to increase the ban until it gets to the point where you know they don't listen and it should be permanent. Others may think differently.

Think there's confusion over what's allowed generally. Some of the mods say short responses are allowed (which makes sense), while others will thread ban people for that. Think a fair few of us were temp banned today for the short tweet-like responses we thought were allowed.

Either way is fine really as long as the rules are clear. I'd have thought one line responses were unlikely to derail the thread though.

How is it absurd? Go to tweet thread, find the tweet that interests you without having to navigate through pages of comments, go to the thread about said player and talk about the tweet in there where it will be discussed heavily already.

I love the idea of a tweets only thread. I don't use twitter, nor do I know who to follow, so the Caf's twitter thread is my only twitter source. Needless to say, I hate seeing all these bollocks discussions that could have taken please somewhere else. I come for the tweets, dammit!

Isn't it possible for the mods to program that thread into only accepting tweets, so that your post must start with

I'm banned from that thread but I don't care because access to threads created by, and full of, online strangers doesn't rank high in my 'things that upset me' list.

Regarding Twitter:

We have gotten some feedback from Niall on all of this. The new policy is to have two separate threads.

1. Tweets - Only Tweets (this will be tightly enforced)

2. Twitter Discussion - All discussions, however long or short on Twitter related material.

This new approach should accommodate posters who want to have short or long discussions about Twitter material, as well as those who want to browse the latest United or transfer related tweets in a tidy format without the usual chit chat.

Please use this thread for feedback.

I think it's a good idea, but I came in here expecting to see tweets and was confused as feck for a few seconds

We now have 2 "tweets only" threads. Maybe change the title of this thread.

can i have a tweets only with discussion thread just for me?

Think this is a good idea. Gives people the option to either a) get quick twitter updates, b) discuss twitter nonsense at length or c) avoid twitter altogether. The twitter discussion thread will probably turn into a bit of a mess but nothing is perfect I guess.

Great idea, the tweets only thread is nice and tidy now and we have threads on all the players to talk about them in further detail anyway.

Every time there's a bump, people want tweets, not reactions to them.

So they read this tweet and are excited or dismayed and... Nothing. Not allowed to have a reaction. If only there was a site dedicated to tweets and not a forum's reaction to tweets. Like twitter.com, but for tweets

Don't try and be a smart arse. Lots of different people on here follow lots of different twitter accounts and in the tweets only thread we get a great collection of tweets that are relevant to Manchester United fans. You don't get that by just browsing twitter, especially when a good lot of people on here have a good idea about who the more trustworthy accounts are.

Good decision. The twitter thread was made in tje first place aa discussions with twitter as a source kept spilling onto the players threads. This is a good compromise.

Thats exactly the idea behind twitter. That you would follow these people and have a hub for all this news you wanted. I dont understand how someone can be a fan of all these tweets but not want to use the site behind it all. I actually dont have a twitter because I've never been a fan of all the tweets, but I cant see how someone who is a fan wants another website to be twitter for them. Explain?

Twitter is a veritable minefield of shite. However, there are some trusted/semi trusted sources on there that bring us some good transfer news. A lot of the twitter users on here have a good idea of who to follow and post any relevant tweets for the rest of us.
It really is self explanatory and I can believe you don't get this.

Glad that Niall has clarified it

Anyway, thread bans I gave where short. It just means that you mss the end of the transfer/muppet season

It's not like there was no messaging to ask people not to pollute the thread. Glad that a few of those people have taken it on the chin

Good idea.

All we need now is to people not to spam the feck out of this thread with long discussions. Few posts back and forth is cool but extensively long discussions should be taken to the respective threads.

Maybe people don't want to be checking twitter all the time and having to browse through all the shit tweets?

The twitter thread acts as a net in a way, just catching all the decent tweets that we need to read.

I don't think tweets even need to be posted in the discussion thread tbh. This morning KM and joemo posted 2 tweets in there but didn't post them in the tweets only thread which kind of defeats the whole purpose, but someone else posted his tweets for them in the main thread.

But I don't see it being such a problem with people posting a tweet in the tweet only thread and then going to discuss that tweet in the other thread, it's not hard to move from 1 thread to the other.

My only problem is this. Golden blunder says "no comments" whereas Raoul says one liners are ok. Thats confusing.

We've amended to avoid confusion with a thread for special Twitter chat so people can now discuss as much as or little as they like. The Tweets Only thread is now for Tweets Only.

Yes agreed. The two threads should work well if both are used as intended.

I didn't see what was wrong with the old system, tweets and small amount of one or two line responses with indepth discussion in the relevant player threads. It wasn't really hard to scroll through some posts to get to a tweet, they're quite obvious looking. Now there's a risk of the same news being tweeted three times. Once the tweets only thread, once in the twitter discussion thread where it can be discussed and once in the relevant player thread where it can be discussed again.

Maybe return the twitter thread to how it was with discussion and a separate sticky only mods can post in where they take the tweets and post them. So we'll have the 'tweets only' thread for people who find it difficult to see huge white boxes with peope's faces in it and the rest can discuss tweets as and when they see them

@Plugsy it's not an issue of not being able to scroll down. It's more (from my personal opinion) when people decide to bump the thread to join in the "immediate reaction" 20 minutes, 30 minutes or 2 hours later leaving everyone to think a new tweet has been posted.

What was wrong with the old system is we have posters who want just tweets and no comments so they can catch up on what's happening without the chit chat. We also have posters who want to be able to react to tweets and have normal discussions about their implications. To accommodate both groups, we've created two separate threads. It sounds like you're in the latter category so just use the Twitter discussion thread.

I was wrong, the twitter discussion thread is shit. It's like a transfer thread but with tweets. But the transfer window thread is the same but..better.

I don't care too much about the tweet discussion thread as I agree it's pretty similar to the January transfer window thread. The tweets only thread is great though. Much easier to quickly see major (or minor...or complete bs) updates.
