Red News:

A lot is being made today by the fact that the Number Nine shirt at United is still empty - and hinting at a signing to rectify this. We have it from a good source at OT that if there is to be any more signings it will be for less than £10m, a lot less, so that probably strikes off a lot of the players we've been linked with recently.

That deletes the lot of them bar Di-Canio or something

Realistically, it's either unveiling an Ole or giving a chance to youth.

10 million would get this guy. With Becks' crosses, he'd score more with his head than our entire team did last year. :D

We're talking 4th striker here. He was rumoured to be going to Roma for as little as 6.25m a few weeks back. That's a bargin.

If he's imjury free, I vote Di Cannio, for 1 million pounds. :D

Ole wears nr. 20 doesn´t he?

I would just say that I hate the German team, and Klose wouldn't be quite at all a good No.9. He had a tremendous (Saudi Arabia?) start for the worldcup but his game sucked terribly in the end.

What I'm thinking of is Damier Duff, who wouldn't want a new Mark Hughes? Common Fergie and Peter, move your ass, he's still 22!

with little cash for a 4th striker, we can't be looking at players with 10m+ value.

shoulda grabbed Inamoto...

rn say there won´t be any more signings for more than 10m this summer

What about the loan option, with so many of europe's top clubs in debt at the moment the chance of taking a top stirker, ie Crespo particularly comes to mind; bearing in mind the Lazio financial situation and the cash the owe us. They would be gagging to let him go as they did with Mendietta on a loan with option to buy clause, to take him of the wage bill and bearing in mind that there have been no bids for him.

We then get ourselves a top class striker, without having to fork out £20-£30 mill, with the option to either buy him @ the end of the forthcoming season, or use him as a stop gap until we can buy Cisse or Ronaldinho. surely this has to be option worth exploring. (In the case of Lazio we have a very strong bargaining tool A.K.A. debt collection)

love to get EJ from chelsea but he's 10+m. anybody down in resvs. ready for a run , davis , webber , nardello?

Want a new, up and coming striker on the cheap? And also tap into a 250 000 000 person market learning to love soccer? Pick up Clint Mathis or Landon Donovan from MLS or Bayer Leverkusen (spelling?). Could be done for less than $7 000 000 (7 000 000 with one of those funny L's). Both of these guys are pure athletes and would only get better with the training and experience of a big club like United. Go ahead and laugh. Its a risk I think Man Utd should take. -Ben

one tournament ...

i repeat, you havent learned from poborsky, have you? ;)

the problem is most people like to down play the WC impressed but so called "unproven" strikers. the problem is once proven they will cost a ton of cash, some thing we can't afford right now. Mathis or Donovan would be ideal but most Europeans are too arrogant to give where credit is due, even after their teams got blastered by the Yanks & Asians only a few weeks ago (bye bye Golden Girls).

i know, let's get Janker or Neuville, hell let's go all out and get Klose, don't you know he scored 5 goals at the WC?
