Television Stranger Things (Netflix Original) | CONTAINS SPOILERS

Potential to flop because of the hype it's gotten surely.

Enjoyed the first series but seems pretty overhyped to me.

I watched the first season and I tried to like it, but the kiddy/teenage angsty stuff was really fecking annoying. I don't really get the fuss. It was ok but hardly must watch for me. Nothing amazing was going on.

I only recently watched the first series and thought it was fantastic. Perhaps it better appeals to certain age groups, I loved the '80s vibe it had going.

Found every episode interesting and the foundation has been laid for season two to be grander in scope. So many interesting questions left to be answered.

I recently watched it for the second time, and it was still great I thought...

But then I'm of a time when things it was based on, ET, Poltergeist, Goonies, etc were my staple viewing...

I though it was fantastic. Probably better for people who grew up in the 80's, early 90's...

Just finished watching it in less than two days. I hate shit about different dimensions and goo and creatures crawling out of the walls, so this really didn't do anything for me. Love to bang Nancy though, she kept me watching. Suppose I'll watch the next season now since I've already watched the first, definitely not a must-watch series by any means I'd give it a 7 and Nancy an 11. Meow:drool:

How did they know 11 was a girl so quickly? Even when she wore the wig it looked like a lad.

I'm thinking about watching season 1 but cba if it ends on a cliffhanger for season 2. Does it?

No cliffhanger. Pretty self contained by itself.

There's still some stuff you'd need second season for, but could live without it.

It's pretty good, not sure I'd ever call it brilliant thou. It's entertaining, and only eight episodes, which is a biggest plus for me.

Onto the third episode now and I don't really see what all the fuss is about, it's better than most TV but that's not saying a lot. Seems pretty weird so far, and cliched... I'll watch it through, hopefully it gets a bit better. The kids sister and her mates storyline is fecking bobbins so far.

I thought with the rave reviews and winning awards this was going to be much better than westworld... hasn't gripped me so far like WW did. Still it has time though.

It was a refreshing show to watch, well-edited and with a good soundtrack but living up to the hype is always hard for a 2nd season...

Yeah it was a 7/10 for me, despite most people raving as if it was a 9/10.

Actually enjoyed it in the end, still full of stupid cliches and half of what happens you expect.

Only thing I can think of why it won the awards is nostalgia, and those who voted were of that age.

Watch it all turn out to just be the kids imagination from playing D&D

Just finished this. Thought it was amazing can't believe I put it off for so long.

Made me want to be a kid in the 80s.

Big part of it I think. I grew up in the eighties, and early nineties. The last generation without cellphones, internet etc... When kids could be kids. When we were 14-15 we were still building treehouses in stead of getting girls pregnant.

I sound like an old bastard, I know.

One thing which did piss me off a bit was the kids radios, somehow they were going huge distances until something important was happening then they wouldn't work properly. Basically the producers couldn't sort it out without the a cell phone so used a radio.

Oh Noodle

That's part of the appeal isn't it, huge nostalgia hit for us grown ups and engaging for the kids. This show was great to watch with the missus and my 5yo and 13yo, now that Flash/LoL is a bit weak and Trollhunters has finished me and mine have a bit of a family show sized whole in our lives.

It was great getting all of us in front of the TV to watch as a family all paying attention to the same show, no web surfing on phone, or gaming in the corner. It's the only show all of us have been engaged in at the same time (kids and missus). Anyone got any recommendations for an alternative while this is off air?

For me personally, it's slightly overrated, but it's still a special show.

The nostalgia hit is precisely why it's overrated. The things it was paying homage to were doing something original at the time, whereas this is using its own creative energy just replicating it in exhaustive detail.

So many things are pandering to nostalgia at the minute, it's kinda boring. Especially as our politics seems to be engaging in exactly the same kind of backward looking comfort blankets.

Not that I think Staranger Things wasn't good, it was enjoyable. But the whole "oooh, 'member the 80s? 'member Spielberg?" Thing? Meh.

FFS Mockney...

I realised that the older sister in it reminded me of Michael Gove at one point and I couldn't unsee it.

FFS Mockney...

It's true though. Did you not get enough of a "nostalgia hit" with Star Wars coming back? Or Star Trek? Or Alien? Or Indiana Jones? Or all the old Disney films? Or the X Files? Or (soon to be) Blade Runner? Or Baywatch? Or Jumanji? Or Twin Peaks? Or feckING EVERYTHING!!?

I mean sure, at least this was an original show, but it was an original show that could only function by sucking hard on the crack pipe of nostalgia.

How much nostalgia do we need? Shouldn't we let the newer generations come up with their own interesting shit, without constantly trying to force ours on them, just to make us feel a little bit better about getting older?

Bah, humbug. Everything sucks!

None of those really had the feel of an eighties/nineties flick tho, they were recent additions to old franchises. This brought me right back to that era so let's at the very least give them credit for doing that well. You have a point tho, luckily I haven't had my fill of nostalgia yet so I'm fine with all this...

Heard the new Alien is good.

I'm partial to a slice of nostalgia once in a while but it's getting ridiculous now, some things are making a comeback that were fecking shite the first time around.

one thing is nostalgia, another thing is a quality show.

Stranger Things is easily the best thing on TV since Breaking Bad. EASILY.
