He literally said "this does not slip" a week before he slipped and cost his team the title. Sometimes I need to type it to remember it happened. It's just glorious.

Might be a good read actually.

As football autobiographies go, that is.

One of those players than Fergie would have elevated to another level is Gerrard, never did quite manage what he should have.

Does enjoy the personal misery of another human being this much make me a terrible person?

Yes it does but it also makes you an average football fan so I suppose you shouldn't feel too bad.

Remember when he slipped on his arse and that ended his dream of winning the league. Classic Stevie.

Quote from Gerrard on that stamp-

"We had stood off United in the first half and made very few tackles. It went against everything built into my DNA. Tackling and collisions mattered against Manchester United.

While we waited for the second half to start, I looked around Anfield, my ancient battleground, and did a last few warm-ups, rotating my torso from the hips, tugging at my shorts, impatient for the game to get under way.

The game restarted, I went in hard with a fair, but slamming tackle on Juan Mata. I cleaned out Mata, who went flying, and I won the ball.

I was involved again, immediately, as Ander Herrera came hurtling towards me to shut down space. I was too quick for him. I completed a simple pass as Herrera came flying in with his sliding tackle. His right leg stretched out invitingly on the Anfield turf. I couldn't stop myself. Without even giving myself time to think I brought my left foot stamping down on Herrera. I felt my studs sink into his flesh just above the ankle. It had to have hurt him."

Sounds like he has been trying to take a page out of Roy Keane's book. He got slated for it lets see if Gerrard gets the same treatment.

Got the laugh at the "Anfield, my ancient battleground", he honestly thinks he's some kind of Roman gladiator. Cringe.

My agent, Struan Marshall, told me that, under Fergie, United had a decent pop at trying to sign me. Gary Neville would knock at my door during England camps. He'd come in for a chat and let me know how much United would love me to play for them. Gary told me Fergie had sent him.

Makes me laugh because I can imagine Neville doing. Never read a football autobiography, don't think I'll read this one either, but that Mail article was good, gave me a chuckle.

On the morning of the game, I felt like a caged animal. As I warmed up on the afternoon last March, the United fans opened their throats.
They pelted me with abuse — and their favourite song echoed around the away end:
'Steve Gerrard, Gerrard... he slipped on his f****** arse, he gave it to Demba Ba... Steve Gerrard, Gerrard...'
After a while, when they got bored, they swapped it for another chestnut:
'You nearly won the league, you nearly won the league... and now you better believe it, now you better believe it, now you better believe it, you nearly won the league.'
The anger in the caged animal grew and grew. United were swaggering, Anfield was very quiet. It was obvious I would come on at half-time.

Lovely!

"I can't even tell you if the streets were thick with traffic or as empty as I was on the inside."

Woah, man. Deep.

"In 2004, Ferguson had called me 'the most influential player in England, bar none' and suggested that 'anyone would love to have Gerrard in their team'.
So I was a little hurt and surprised when 13 years later, Ferguson used his autobiography to insist he was one of the few who never thought I was 'a top, top player'. I wouldn't lose any sleep but I was slightly taken aback after all his praise."

He's a bit thick

Colossal grade A bell end, stuff on Herrera stamp is shocking. Sounds almost proud of it.

I would have done OK in a United team playing alongside Keane in midfield with David Beckham on the right, Ryan Giggs on the left and Ruud van Nistelrooy up front. I would have managed pretty well in that side.

A little bit of regret from Stevie G :D

You should read Sir Alex's first book, managing my life, it's fantastic and it is very captivating to go through his journey.

Instead of hitting a long crossfield pass to set up a goal, making a decisive tackle or curling the ball into the back of the Chelsea goal to seal our victory, I had fallen over

Hehe.

I don't hate Gerrard half as much as most on here, but he does come across as someone who really believes his own hype in any of the excerpts I've read, and parts of it seem very cringey. Dont think I could stomach reading this one.

the most telling part

Instead of hitting a long crossfield pass to set up a goal, making a decisive tackle or curling the ball into the back of the Chelsea goal to seal our victory, I had fallen over

Absolutely embarrassing. Instead of talking about how he would want to get his team back in it, he is upset that he can not get the glory.

I actually have his latest book. Someone who read it gave it to me, but I've not touched it as of yet.

Got the same impression,
Really does fit the whole delusional rawkite cliche ... i wonder does he post on there?

United fans.....City or Liverpool that season who'd you have win it that season? Something a bit more ethical about Liverpool for me as much as I hated them overtaking us and screwing us on the Suarez release clause. Immoral owners, scummy fanbase but decent football from their mercenaries tbf

You were too fast to fecking walk it you absolute bellend for anybody to take a photo with you.

oh I wiped put Mata, well you bloody hero, wiping out one of the least physically strong players ever seen in the top flight!

I never really minded Gerrard, I found him a comedy figure, kissing cameras after scoring essentially meaningless goals at Old Trafford.
And an incredibly morose character in interviews and for England.

It's hard not to chuckle at the staged speech for the camera, then the slip ruining their only real title hope in years, and then the pushing the camera away at Palace.
No desire to have it in your face then eh Stevie?

If he hadn't been trying to take the pass in such a flash way, that chance would never have arisen. Why not just control it with the side of his foot, rather than try the much harder swing it round with the studs technique.

The stuff in that Mail link is staggering.

He may has well have just written "I'm a cnut" over and over like Bart Simpson doing lines on the blackboard.

Every line is soaked in arrogance and the bit about being unable to resist stamping on Herrera (after being 'too quick for him') is disgusting.

No doubt Fleet Street will be queuing up to choke on his balls instead of pointing out what a complete twat he is, though.

El- Haj Diouf once said gerrad didn't really care about liverpool but was more interested in his own legend, self adulation. He's a bit of a cnut so people gave him a right hammering.

I'm a Man Utd fan but I do feel sorry for him at times. Should have won at least 1 league title.

Still coming accross as a vile thuggish egotistical self obsessed twat. Just goes to show, you can take the scouser out of the slum, but not the slum out of the scouser
