Steve McClaren | Yessh our new assistant coach

If its who ETH wants then so be it. Moyes came in and got rid of everyone and it hugely backfired. It's just abit of an underwhelming appointment and I don't think links to the past is what we need, and I expect that was Murtagh and Fletcher's concern, but ETH must see a huge amount of value in him so i trust his judgement for now.
Moyes took over a title winning squad with a title winning staff. Big difference to our current collection of misfits.

Pogba won the World Cup with the heavy favourites which seemingly absolves him from everything since. That’s about it really. Lingard : best dressed sub

Neither will be at the club, Ronaldo and Varane will be the only serial winners at the club.

Pleased with this one. Always considered to be a good coach, very experienced, knows both the club and manager well, I think it's a bit of a coup tbh.

Everyone in football either played for, worked under or is related to Sir Alex in some way I’m not sure it’s possible to staff a coaching team without someone with links to the man

Is a guy who EtH trusts and is familiar with English football, in addition to the Premier League, in addition to the club. Jog on guy, jog on.
It must have been difficult to find someone who is familiar with English football and who hasnt had a decent gig in years but we managed it.

True, I actually forgot about the lads trying to crack a joke but they are past their best or Ronaldo is and Varane is probably fast approaching it if he can stay fit.

We somehow need to be getting in front of Madrid for the next crop of world stars and get them to spend their peak here. Miles off but that’s surely got to be the aim if you want maximum value

You mean Ten Hag managed it? Stop slagging off the club you support and focus on the fella making the decision. Such desperation to be an angry little muffin.

Guess you didn't know they worked together as manager (McClaren) and assistant manager (EtH)? Now the roles have been reversed, yet McClaren is an assistant coach to EtH, with Mitchell van der Haag second in command to EtH like they are currently in Ajax.

How's the jogging coming along?

The club said no originally apparently

The media outlet immediately disregarded their own story. That's pretty much a retraction. They haven't the feintest idea what's actually happening and you're just taking the bait 100% then amplifying your misguided thoughts.

Aaaaaaand this.

What the hell? Why would he want Steve?

Why on Earth would someone want a man that managed Middlesbrough to a European final and FC Twente to their only league championship in their history (whilst working together with him) and who as an assistant manager won the only treble in English history? Nope can’t fathom it either.

Aaaand he would replace the deadwood we have here like Phelan etc. Whats not to like

This might bother me if (like Ole) ETH was more of a hands-off manager who delegated a lot to his assistants. Because at that point I'd be seriously interested in how qualified they are and what their thinking on football is.

But with ETH actually having a more hands-on approach it really doesn't matter as much. He could hire all three of Phelan, McKenna and Carrick back for all I care, as long as he's dictating what needs to be done.

Not keen on this at all, hope very this is 100% Ten Hags decision and not a suggestion by the idiotic powers that be at the club.

Our greatest assistant manager + 20 years additional experience! Easy decision.

I did in 2008 14 years ago  Your argument is getting stronger and stronger so maybe you should hit the high road .

Definitely will help bridge the cultural and club knowledge gap that ETH will have.

Its a very smart appointment. Getting in someone who knows the club through and through and is very well respected. Not to mention that he was around for some of the greatest teams we have put out. Trophy laden career. Experience in the biggest leagues in the world. Learned from the GOAT.

Not staff from the MLS or youth setups at other clubs. An actual qualified and experienced Manager level appointment, who has decided to take a step down and assist our new manager.

You literally said "we don't learn". This is an EtH decision, not the club. Club is allowing EtH to develop is core coaches with McClaren an assistant coach, behind EtH and MvdG

The club has the final say , the club pays the wages not ETH.

EtH sets the standards and his immediate coaching staff. The club is following EtH and these are some of the demands and needs he was probably mentioning and getting these reassurances before even taking over the club.

A guy who was revelant 20 years ago .. we never learn .

oh feck off, it's a person specifically requested by the new manager. some people are so desperate to criticise anything the club do. If they'd said no there would be posters on here banging on about forcing staff on him.

i’d imagine things like the backroom staff would have played a big part in his contract negotiations. whatever or whoever decided, ten hag is clearly ok with it.

Is that highly sought after van der gaag guy still joining us?

“The players are said to be having problems understanding what Gaag and McClaren want from them, they have doubts over their credentials to coach at this level having only ever collaborated in the much weaker Dutch league previously”

That’s what you’ll get if you ask these lads to run or put their bodies on the line
Oh god I can see it already.

McClaren isn't really a Manchester United guy. He's very different from Giggs, Carrick and Phelan who were part of the club for a long time.

I know he became a caricature at some point, but he's certainly qualified to be a bloody assistant. More than qualified. He's been successful in that capacity here before, he's managed successfully in his own right. Albeit quite mixed. But again... assistant manager.

I don't think we necessarily need a hip young assistant. ETH is an ideas man, it seems. He'll be rounding out his team and Shteve certainly brings some experience.
