Steve Jobs to Kick Off Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2010 with Keynote Address on Monday, June 7

CUPERTINO, California—May 24, 2010—Apple® will kick off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address by CEO Steve Jobs on Monday, June 7 at 10:00 a.m. This year’s WWDC sold out in a record eight days to over 5,000 developers.

The five-day event running from June 7 to June 11, is focused on providing advanced content for skilled developers across five key technology tracks: Application Frameworks; Internet & Web; Graphics & Media; Developer Tools; and Core OS. Apple engineers will deliver over 100 solutions-oriented technical sessions and labs. WWDC 2010 gives an incredibly diverse community the opportunity to connect with thousands of fellow iPhone®, iPad™ and Mac® developers from around the world.

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution with the Apple II, then reinvented the personal computer with the Macintosh. Apple continues to lead the industry with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system, and iLife, iWork and professional applications. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store, has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and has recently introduced its magical iPad which is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices.

Apple fans 'won't be disappointed' at WWDC, says Jobs - Telegraph

Bryan Webster, an Apple fan who reads the MacRumours website, emailed Steve Jobs to ask him how the company planned to respond to the threat posed by Google, which last week unveiled a new operating system for Android handsets, and an internet-enabled TV set-top box.
"I hope you have some good WWDC announcements to blow [Google] out of the water," wrote Webster in an email to Jobs.

Remember that email headers can be edited. i.e. I can send an email from whoever I want just by modifying headers.

The Android/Apple war is something I don't quite understand.

Who should I root for?

Try both and make up your own mind.

I'm assuming he meant the new iPhone is going to be released in July, although its hard to tell.

I've tried the iPhone and liked that.

Android is used by HTC right? I'm guessing my next phone will be a HTC.

From Macrumors....

"After the big news from Google last week, MacRumors reader Bryan Webster emailed Steve Jobs: "I hope you have some good WWDC announcements to blow [Google] out of the water".

To this, Steve Jobs reportedly replied "You won't be disappointed". While it's always hard to authenticate emails sent to and from 3rd parties, Bryan did post headers as an offering of proof.

Apple is expected to be making new product announcements at the Worldwide Developer's Conference from June 7th-11th. In particular, everyone expects that the next generation iPhone will be introduced at that event. Other rumors have suggested that we may see the iPhone with Verizon this year, though it may not come as early as June. "

Is one considered better than the other or is it mostly a matter of personal preference?

See the iPhone thread. Lots info about the smartphone wars in there. I'd like to keep this one as a broader thread about all Apple products for current or aspiring Mac/Apple product owners.

I was more of an Atari ST fan.(boy)

Oh dear!

The deal as far as I recall was before the 16 bit machines came along, and was very very close to happening. In the end Commodore decided to purchase MOS. If you are interested in this type of shit, on YouTube there used to be some rather extensive interviews with one of the MOS chief engineers, a living legend called Chuck Peddle. In those interviews he even describes events when he went on behalf of Commodore to meet a young Bill Gates - and it's interesting as to the events that ensued.

Ok, I've looked at it before but it is big and reminds me of the Messi vs Ronaldo thread where people argue from pre decided positions.

The Fanboy / Anti Fan boy thing is getting old.
Errr you have loads who openly claim to be an Apple "fan" like the person in question here.

It is extremely sad to be a fan of a company, something which involves actively rooting for others to fail even if that is detrimental to the whole market.

Agreed. That's precisely why I started a new one. Too much arguing, and not enough information.

Being satisfied with a product and looking forward to new ones isn't being a fan boy. Its merely a result of being satisfied with a product and looking forward to future upgrades.

To put it simply, both are basically the same hardware, the same as a Mac is basically the same hardware as a PC but they charge you more for it. Now, where Apple always win is through software, not because it's better, but rather that it's slicker. Android runs a micro Linux Kernal with apps running in a Virtual Machine for the most part, Apple runs a proprietary OS. Cock and balls, Apple back it up with the store.

There is no problem with that.

Fanbois like possibly the one in question, actively disparage other products. From his feck the Android team, it is pretty clear it is not just about having improvements on his favored gadget but resenting any attempt by a rival to better a technology. The only word to describe such behavior is sad.

I hope Apple release something good. Have a Iphone right now, will change soon. Right now I have narrowed it down to Desire, hopefully a new Iphone will give me another option to consider.

Yes its called brand loyalty through customer satisfaction.

In any case, I'm going to start deleting posts that take this off topic, so lets keep it on topic so we don't end up with another 20 page monstrosity like the iPhone and iPad threads.

You could just create a tech forum so I don't have to wade through shit like this looking for the tits pic or 'shit in a handbag' post.

Ok, I only have a netbook right now (MSI Wind) which although I'm very satisfied with, has it's limitations. I am looking at possibly buying a Macbook 13" in a few months but it seems very expensive. Can anybody explain why I should(n't) buy it?

Most arguments against are usually price driven. Netbooks are probably around 50% cheaper. If you're seriously looking at a Macbook, got to an Apple Store and play around with it. Its (imo) a distinctly different experience than using a PC.

What exactly is the topic?

Those pictures that you placed in the OP appear and then don't, then appear again, and then don't. Mildly amusing, as when they are not there, the whole thread looks a little odd. Rehost them maybe?

CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

In spite of my hatred for the business, I really hope the man is ok.
