What exactly has he done wrong?
He has looked after himself and has weird taste. But that is no reason to hate him.

He didnt want to play for his country. His decision.
Has he got into trouble off the pitch? Drink driving, drugs, getting into fights or just being a shit human? I cant recall any such stories

To me? Another footballer in love with the fact he's a footballer. Not the game itself.

He's a wanker.

There's not wanting to play for your country and there's getting caught telling a tissue of outrageous lies to try and dodge the opportunity. The former is somewhat understandable, the latter less so.

Then there's his unbearably crass sense of style and vulgar attention-seeking lifestyle. Basically, he's a dick.

EDIT: plus what LRM said. Well put.

Nail on head basically.

As a footballer, he has done nothing wrong. He was fantastic for City than benched. Then he went to Villa and just never clicked. Now he's benched. He should be playing day in and out, he's a wonderful player.

As a person - the whole Irish thing is grey to me. I'm not Irish, but I support the team and follow them a bit. There was some bullying going on so that's what clouds it for me. I've seen many friend, young and old, who do crazy things when they've been bullied. I think he could make a difference for the team if both sides ever come back together.

As for his taste: You're quite a big girl for disliking a man for his taste. His is flamboyant, but that's obviously what he's into. He's never come across as self interested to the point where he is doing things only for attention. By all accounts, his private life is pretty private. Sure he has an angel tattoo on his back that looks childish, but I know plenty of guys with tattooed sleeves and full back art - not my taste, but they do it for themselves. He drives crazy looking cars but I know people who do the same (just with cheaper models).

He gets slag for the Irish stunt, for being a City player, and for looking a right nob. But as a club player, I don't think there's a lot to be said negatively.

I once saw an interview with Keano a year or so back. They asked him what he would do if he was manager of Ireland he said that he would talk to Ireland and he would want him on the team. Keano isn't someone to take fancy boys lightly so take what you want from his physical looks, on the pitch he works hard and contributes.

I dont know man. There are plenty of footballers who are much worse than him.
He likes the attention and that will obviously leave him open to more criticism. I just dont think I hate people like him.
I dont like them. I just dont care. Just like Balotelli.

If I were talented enough to be paid millions to do something I have grown out of love with, I'd do it too. Anyone would.

If he is a cnut of the highest order, what is Terry or Barton or even Giggs?
He is hardly 'idol' material. He has given nothing to the game. But he isnt that bad as a person either. Not that hard to just ignore him.

He is a cnut. I thought it would stop as he matured, but he never did in the end. He was a prick as a kid with a terrible attitude, got everything he wanted without too much effort and that is shown in his lacklustre performances as a player now, he wont put in the effort needed to succeed. I can rattle off stories than I witnessed as a kid-early teens, and what he has done since with me knowning his mothers side of the family quiet well.

His father was the exact same as a kid. Gifted footballer but never had the mentality to get far. Booze and endless woman ended any chance he had really. His traits rubbed off on Stephen unfortunetly.

This is another chance for him. He has another chance to put all of his past problems behind him now. He can focus on his football and try to win a first team place regularly at Villa.

Make a new thread please, this one is ancient.
