State of the refs in this country

Quite.
Back in his days you could do all manner of carnage to an opponent.

But it's pretty clear to anyone who has watched football in the last 20 mins that you can't smack into a goalie, not touch the ball and expect to get away with it. Even at Anfield.

The big question is was the ref just showing some scandalous bottling? Or was he just letting the game and safe that VAR will bail him out.
Seriously poor reffing from that far away.

He bottled it

Dermot Gallagher saying that its the correct decision... and again looking utterly baffled by weird arguments coming from the two people opposite him. "Why can't he challenge for the ball" ... well he can fella, but if he doesn't get the ball, then its a foul!
Agree, it's rubbish that we're being charged for the ref's incompetence. Why do the players need to surround the ref before he decides to make the correct call?

Still not convinced either way on the decision.

What I am convinced about, is that Pawson must view the incident again via monitor and then overturn his original call if he thinks it's a foul. Being overruled remotely like that totally undermines his authority on the pitch and in future games. Players surrounding the referee make it even worse and makes it seem like the players caused the decision to be overturned.

Which then encourages players to endlessly surround the referee in future games.

Also de Gea lucky to escape with only a yellow, go put your hands on the referee in an aggressive manner and it's a red at any other level of football.

Premier league will never get decent officials who players have some respect for when they get treated like chumps.

Riley must be sacked.

Funny thing about the disallowed goal is how United's players put more effort into arguing with the ref than they did to try and stop the goal being scored. The goal itself was always going to be checked by VAR.

Funny, not convinced about the decision?
It was a clear foul and the ref was just been a tit about it.
Nothing will happen with DeGea and am pretty sure the reaction from the players made the decision overturned.
VAR officials are pretty shit.

I don't see how only punching the ball allows a GK to get elbowed, Dermot?

Or is that only the case if the ref hasn't seen it?

The Everton goal was checked by VAR too, DDG and the rest of the Utd players didn't look upset and the goal was given. If the players have to react angrily to a challenge on the keeper for VAR to sway their decision in our favour, then I'm all for them going off on the ref.

To anyone who hasn't some one eyed Liverpool allegiance, has a clear agenda (Keane n G Nev), or is a colossal ABU, or simply to anyone who has watched football this last 20 years, it was simply an obvious foul.

What on earth the ref was thinking I do not know.
That's the sort of decision that should see him suspended a week or two.

You see little brushes on keepers much less obvious blown up almost every week.

No chance. All goals are reviewed, and it's pretty obvious De Gea was fouled.
Many things were obvious this season, but VAR didn't overrule them. The game was against the referees favourite team LiVARpool, at Anfield...Almost sure it would be given if wasn't the players reaction.

The problem is what if de Gea saves the shot from Firminho and turns it into a corner. If they score from the corner it won't be overturned. There's a lot of outcomes of that situation where the foul won't be called and that's why I don't feel that the players are overreacting.

It's a blatant foul, and I loved to see de Gea react the way he did. The refs haven't protected him since he joined us, and it was about time we showed a reaction.

It's very rare you see players react with that ferocity.
Always when they've been outrageously wronged.

I've been crying out all season for our players to show that level of protest against decisions which are clearly wrong, so I was delighted to see that cheat Pawson harangued like he was. It's a disgrace that the FA are now charging the club for that protest. The foul on De Gea in the Everton game wasn't overturned by that cheat Pawson when our players didn't protest, so it's clearly obvious that they need to protest to get a correct decision. And I am speaking as an experienced international referee in another sport!

I wonder why Shaw goal was disallowed and not overturned by VAR, while the push on Matic was totally ignored on Burnley's first goal.

I still remember Liverpool had a goal against them disallowed by VAR after a slight push, yet this isn't consistent. Football is a game of margins, and it adds up over long season where there is different rules for different teams. Amazing when such inconsistencies exist at this level and aren't even being seriously looked at.

One of the worst non-decisions of the season in the Northampton/Derby FA Cup match. Derby striker through on goal and is blatantly dragged down and nothing given.

Farcical from the ref.

You think you have it bad. Im watching PSV - Twente and after 20 minutes the ref realized he had actually forgotten to bring his yellow card.

Brilliant.

3 mins added time when majority of the match has been people on the floor, a sub and 2 goals?

I've never seen this guy but tbh I would send him back to lower league without blinking.
Total incompetence.

This Chris guy literally reffing the game based on players and fans reactions.

Standard weak ref that tries to keep fouls and cards even regardless of what's actually happening

This guy is out of his depth. Shaw received a yellow card for being slightly stamped on while lying down after a tackle:wenger:
Then he gave Maguire a yellow card for shoulder bumping a player.

I watched this game without sound because of a lag. It has been easy to see that once Everton started to fake injuries, bring the tempo down by creating drama the ref has been swayed by the crowd and their players. Absolutely lost the plot.

The sooner the game is reffed by AI the better. At least we'd have some kind of standardisation and these attention seeking, crowd pleasing mugs would be out of a job.

Chris Kavanagh doing his best to rival Jon Moss for worst referee in the league. Terrible performance so far.

Richarlison is a little scrote but it is pretty useful when you have a ref that can control the game as it goes a bit unnoticed. As this ref can't it leads to 5 minutes of chaos like the end of that half. He didn't really know what or how to deal with it so decided to start giving everyone a yellow.

He's bottling it and dishing cards due to fans screaming, which in turn encourages them to scream for nothing! This level of refereeing wouldn't be acceptable at amateur level but is tolerated as 'the PL have the best refrees'! Yeah alright.

He got kicked in to touch and kneed in the ribs.

Booked!

That one is a joke. Not only that but Tom Davies then squares up to him. He doesn’t get booked then 5 minutes later makes a horrendous challenge on Matic.

The Maguire yellow is ridiculous as well. Can’t see how we have the same number of yellows as them.

Exactly this.

Even Carragher commented that Everton were making a lot of fouls due to their inability to get close to United's midfield.

What is wrong with this guy. Complete idiot
