Torn between taking a look at the leaks and not. Those who’ve done it, any regrets?

Nah I just skipped through the 40 min video, didn't watch it in full. Only the start of the game anyway.

Locky is reading the leaks so he can get a head start on pretending he has played it for more than 10minutes which is how long it will take him to realise his flappy paddles are pointless and his mates can't carry him, so he goes back to COD.

Mate I'm all about Overwatch now

Todd Howard is just as much a BS merchant as Peter Molyneux. I wouldn't take any of his claims seriously.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the modding community do though.

Back in the day, Molyneux was a top notch guy who knew his shit and he certainly knew and loved games and putting them out for people to play.

But studio heads and those roles have changed, a long time ago. The industry went all Hollywood and those types went with it. I'm not shocked people listen to them and still argue with each other based on the crap they say though. It's not as if we all know any different.

Todd Howard was the same, evident with the passion he put into Redguard and Morrowind as exec producer.

Its when he became director at Bethesda and they started wheeling him out as the studio's face did he turn into this caricature where he'd make the most hilariously outlandish claims about his games and hence complete his transformation to the industry's primary used car salesman archetype

Not even sure what Molyneux is up to these days. Last I heard he made some pretty medicore kickstarter games (which again promised the world).

Never met nor spoken to Howard so I can't directly attest to that, but yep it seems that way.

In the mid 00's all studio leads went that way, one minute you are drinking and talking about games and what can be done to move things forward and before you know it, it's all about production and buzz words and management speak when big money (nearly always American) investors started taking over. It got excruciating very quickly I can tell you.

Anyway, Starfield will be exactly what most of us who have played the earlier games expect. When the hype dies down quickly, it won't technically be the best nor will any of the gameplay elements be, but that didn't hinder Skyrim in the general view and it won't here. And I'm fine with that, as long as I can find fun to have which I have high hopes I will.

Will play through it on Game Pass first, then buy it on Steam after it goes on sale so I can mod the feck out of it later on.

This is the way. Unmodified playthrough first on GP and then mod the hell out of it on Steam. By the time we're finished the first playthrough I'm sure there will be plenty.

I'm not going with that plan as it's bound to launch broken and never be fixed, the mods will be coming within days to sort it. Plus MS store versions of games are more prone to problems anyway that are out of developers control.

But it's not the worst plan if it runs well enough at launch.

I'm hearing it's running as well as it could be, "most polished Bethesda game ever launched" is the word going around Twitter/X. Also going by that 30 minute gameplay leak it looks fine, but was running off a SX at 30fps.

I mean...it's not the first time we've heard that! And watching a video is a lot different to playing the game. Like I say, the space battles is the area you are likely to see it most.

But I'm still excited.

Now help me out here, I'm ignoring the gamepass and going straight to Steam. Do I pull the trigger on the premium version?? I often don't, especially not for digital games anyway, but I am excited. Though I do have a lot of work on...urgh!

Yeah that early access is damn tempting, but personally I don't mind waiting a bit longer as I've to finish off one or two games anyway before this consumes my life.

100 quid isn't bad then considering that too. How large is the DLC meant to be? Like 7-8 hour long mission or larger?

We don't know that, well I don't think we do. But DLC for the likes of Skyrim and Fallout has traditionally been pretty decent iirc, so one can hope.

It's £86 on steam. I'll have to let the missus think I'm playing it on the GP though, or I'll get another lecture

£86 looks a lot better on a statement, €99.99 feels wrong. Good strategy, unless she's a gamer on the same machine you should be grand

It's not so much she cares about the cost, she plays more games than me, but she doesn't understand why we have gamepass accounts and yet I still tend to buy the big games separately on Steam. 100% on me

First game in a while that’s made me think I need to build a new PC. Would be cheaper to buy an Xbox…
If recent PC ports are anything to go by then there’s no guarantee this still won’t work like shit even on a top end pc. At least on Xbox it’ll run at… 30fps, yay…

My brother has an Xbox so maybe I’ll borrow his at some point over the next 6 months if this is any good. But to be honest my interest in it is very little - what I’ve seen of it doesn’t draw me in and Bethesda’s writing is usually average. Too much other stuff I’ve got on my to do but will keep an eye on it as the option to play it on his at some point is there.

I once paid £125 for an import Streetfighter 2 Hyper cart on the snes. And we are talking about on release.

So I think you'll find, that's an improvement some 30 years later

Edit: Apparently that's £325.79 today

ok that's bad but at least its a quality game. My worst was Star Wars Battlefront I think, can't remember how much but it was their top pre-order nonsense, played it for maybe 3 weeks, though it was fun at first. Diablo 4 has left the most sour taste, 'only' £70 but I've never felt like such a mug before, falling for that hype.

Wait for the reviews people, or get Armored Core instead, now that looks fun.

Yeah about that...you've just hurt my bank account, I now will be officially blaming you!

Depends which Battlefront you are on referring to but BF2 went on to be a great game after a terrible launch.

Honestly thought I was going to open this to a slightly chubby dude with prepubescent facial hair and then expect him to disappear from this place.

But no, it's not him. And I thank the lord for that!

I know this can't be me because slightly chubby is 10 years and 3 knee dislocates ago

A week away now for early access.

Oi, you are a beautiful human and I won't have it said otherwise!

Though I am going to blame you entirely if this turns out shit, since I've just spent a fortune on your recommendation...

BTW on a seperate note, I'm going to get into some MK for the first time in years tonight with the missus on the new tracks. Have you played them? Thoughts on how I can humiliate her with shortcuts? Bare in mind, she has the cheat code that gives her red shells and sometimes even a blue shell (yes that fecking well happened!) in second place.

Mortal Kombat is great.
