An explosion has hit the St Petersburg metro, according to witness reports. The blast apparently occurred at the Sennaya Ploshchad station in the centre of Russia’s second biggest city.

Photographs from the scene showed a metro train in the station with one set of doors blown out, and a number of people on the ground with injuries. There was no immediate information about the number of casualties or what caused the explosion.

The news agency TASS reported 10 people had died and 20 were injured in the blast, though the figures could not be immediately verified.

At least 10 people have been killed in explosions at underground stations in St Petersburg, Russian media report.,

The Tass and Interfax agencies reported the blasts hit the Sennaya Ploshchad and nearby Institute of Technology stations in the centre of the city.

Images posted on social media showed a carriage in Sennaya station with its doors blown out with casualties nearby.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is in the city, has been informed, Russian media say.

The cause of the explosions is not yet known. (BBC news)

Edit: Sorry one thread already. Can someone merge please.

This'll be ISIS via Chechnya/Dagestan

Travelled through those stations a number of times and they're some of the busiest along the St. Petersburg metro system, so a lot of people will be impacted by this. Hope they catch who's responsible for his atrocity.

RIP to those who died.

Do we have any Russian posters?

Will be interesting to see how Twitler publicly responds to this.

The Chechen government is pretty close to Putin, don't think it'll be them this time.

Doesn't have to be the Chechen government. Could be Chechen insurgents backed by IS but I was under the impression that large-scale terrorist attacks like this weren't being orchestrated by these insurgents anymore.

that's true, there are still Chechens who are associated with Al Queda/ISIS scattered around the globe.

Second thought.....I do hope Putin doesn't blitz Syria if this turns out to be I.S. They've suffered far too much.

False flag operation to allow Putin to crack down on the protestors or an accident of some kind.

Sadly, I thought the same when I heard about the incident but let's wait and hope for the best. The brutality of terrorists to kill or harm innocent people is despicable, no matter where it happens and why.

Seems vaguely similar to this.....

(Spoiler: it ends in an explosion)

Embedded media from this media site is no longer available

ISIS or Chechen/Dagestani separatists written all over this.

Putin tends to respond very harshly to these attacks.

Is that actually the suspect or an image pulled from Twitter? No one is reporting that, not even RT.
I'd actually be surprised if it was him...he doesn't fit the profile of most of the terrorists...bombers we've seen in other countries...after all they have to melt in with the crowd.

That guy with the beard, tupi and carrying something is going to bring all kinds of attention to himself.

There are many Chechens who oppose Kadyrov (mostly from outside Chechnya, as he controls pretty much everything inside); just recently there was an attempt on his life by a member of Yamadaev's family (very important family in the past that crossed path with him at some point). There are many Chechen's that flee to ISIS too

It's on the Saint-Petersburg's press, which isn't very reliable.

Plus there's another shot from CCTV published by a bigger channel (albeit not very reliable either)
