Flamingo Purple
The wrong skeptic
Really don't enjoy the constant shouting and cheesy characters which just seem like parodies in this. Don't know whether we're meant to be believe the main character is sane or not either.
I was thinking this too. Loads of people talking as if it's something really new and different, but it's not. I think the hype is because Netflix pushed it front and centre when you open it.Watched it, enjoyed it but there are loads of similar type shows. Not sure why this one stands out above the others.

Likely everyone is talking about it because Netflix pushed it though. It's only different to the other more normal things people tend to watch, but this kind of thing is basically it's own genre. There's plenty of similar stuff that's equally as good.I didn't even watch it via Netflix, just heard good things and enjoyed it. It's at least slightly different to most things out there atm.

What? Someone wondered why this one stands out above the others and that's the reason. Just because you didn't watch it via Netflix doesn't mean it isn't so, nor were you asked to care. You're the one that got involved in that discussionWho cares?
AgreedWho cares?
It’s not that bad if you’re in behind. The rope one was brutal though as you’re completely dependent on your team.I'm trying to decide what the worst game was. The glass one is horrible, 50/50 chance of death with pricks behind you hurrying you up.

Yeah it's just obvious, considering the biggest worldwide streaming service put it front and centre. I'm baffled by what's got your goat hereDidn’t know it was confirmed. Sorry.
Just like Money Heist, my missus has decided that listening to the absolutely shite voice over with dubbed sound effects is better than the original audio. And, just like Money Heist, I'm fecking hating it because it's ruining what it's probably an amazing show.
When I first met her I wondered how I managed to snag her - she's a proper 10 and I'm only a 9.5 - and now I know. She's definitely a serial killer.Break up with her. It’s a red flag if they don’t want to read subtitles and she’ll probably murder you.
The way the VIPs spoke in ep 7 reminded me of NPCs in video games so wooden and weirdly phrased. Was like listening to a Skyrim conversation.
Also, found this weird:
The girl with the nose piercing (that sacrificed herself) mentioned Byung-Hun Lee as an actor in that universe and then when the Front Man removed his mask, the actor was Byung-Hun Lee
I came in here to post exactly this. Almost word for word. Only maybe Horizon Zero Dawn instead of Skyrim!
They sounded so much like NPC's I was sure it was deliberate.
Thirded. Have just watched that ep and their acting was truly bizarre. Must have been deliberate (although not sure why, it sounded shit).
For non-English speakers who grew up watching American movies with subtitles, it's really puzzling to see so many English speakers preferring dubbing. I knew they did it in Germany but Germans have their quirks. I don't get how a grown-up person can watch a dubbed film or series and take it the least bit serious.
Anyway, binged this over three days. I thought it ended up as a very strong show, 8/10. Was on the fence early one because it's really not my genre and I find the whole premise a bit off-putting but there was some great characters and a brilliant production design.
Yeah and they've added them as the games went on, a visual chronicle of sorts (or a cruel reminder of the past traumas).Did anyone else notice on the walls of the room they sleep in, the diagrams of the stick people actually depicted the games? Spotted it in the second to last episode.
I don't get it either. I felt that reading the subtitles and seeing how the actors reacted in this were ruined by the jarring dub which consistently sounded nothing close to what you'd expect the situation to need. For non-English speakers who grew up watching American movies with subtitles, it's really puzzling to see so many English speakers preferring dubbing. Tried watching this but I can't stand dubbing so not sure if I will be able to. It's got so much buzz though so might try and bear it
