Television Squid Game (Netflix)

Really don't enjoy the constant shouting and cheesy characters which just seem like parodies in this. Don't know whether we're meant to be believe the main character is sane or not either.

Watched it, enjoyed it but there are loads of similar type shows. Not sure why this one stands out above the others.
I was thinking this too. Loads of people talking as if it's something really new and different, but it's not. I think the hype is because Netflix pushed it front and centre when you open it.

I didn't even watch it via Netflix, just heard good things and enjoyed it. It's at least slightly different to most things out there atm.

Likely everyone is talking about it because Netflix pushed it though. It's only different to the other more normal things people tend to watch, but this kind of thing is basically it's own genre. There's plenty of similar stuff that's equally as good.

Who cares?

Who cares?
What? Someone wondered why this one stands out above the others and that's the reason. Just because you didn't watch it via Netflix doesn't mean it isn't so, nor were you asked to care. You're the one that got involved in that discussion

Watched the first 2 last night. Good stuff. 2nd one was a bit slower but it's obviously there to give you some background on the main characters we're following and why we should care about them.

I love the old fella with the brain tumour already.

I'm trying to decide what the worst game was. The glass one is horrible, 50/50 chance of death with pricks behind you hurrying you up.
It’s not that bad if you’re in behind. The rope one was brutal though as you’re completely dependent on your team.

Didn’t know it was confirmed. Sorry.

Yeah it's just obvious, considering the biggest worldwide streaming service put it front and centre. I'm baffled by what's got your goat here

So I watched the first episode as soon as this came out.... I struggled and couldnt get past the first 30 mins. Really didnt like the characters and the acting was over the top.

However, seeing that it had a good reception here and elsewhere I tried it again a couple of days ago and I'm very glad I did. After that first episode I think it was good. It reminds me of course of when I first watched Battle Royale. But by the end of episode 6 I have to say the character depth and story is a lot stronger than Battle Royale. It comes a long way from that first 30 mins.

Going onto the last 3 episodes now

Finished it. Was fun. Preferred to Alice in Borderland. It's a more grounded version of that but Alice went shite in the second half... this at least maintained a consistent level. I wasn't a big fan of the ending though. I would have preferred if:

he went to see his daughter finally. He can return in a post credit scene or at the start of the next season.

Also, found this weird:

The girl with the nose piercing (that sacrificed herself) mentioned Byung-Hun Lee as an actor in that universe and then when the Front Man removed his mask, the actor was Byung-Hun Lee

Finished it.
Great start, decent middle, meh finish.

Just like Money Heist, my missus has decided that listening to the absolutely shite voice over with dubbed sound effects is better than the original audio. And, just like Money Heist, I'm fecking hating it because it's ruining what it's probably an amazing show.

Break up with her. It’s a red flag if they don’t want to read subtitles and she’ll probably murder you.

When I first met her I wondered how I managed to snag her - she's a proper 10 and I'm only a 9.5 - and now I know. She's definitely a serial killer.

The way the VIPs spoke in ep 7 reminded me of NPCs in video games  so wooden and weirdly phrased. Was like listening to a Skyrim conversation.

I came in here to post exactly this. Almost word for word. Only maybe Horizon Zero Dawn instead of Skyrim!

They sounded so much like NPC's I was sure it was deliberate.

Season 2 should be all the past winner called back to play again, for all their money combined together. Call it Squid Game: Catching Fire.

Weird. Reminds me of Captain America's potential surprise when he watches Star Wars (he mentions them on the list of the movies that he should catch up on) and sees his boss as one of the jedi.

Finished the series, really enjoyed it

Did anyone else notice on the walls of the room they sleep in, the diagrams of the stick people actually depicted the games? Spotted it in the second to last episode.

Could have sworn I'd seen the pastel coloured castle they climb the steps of to go to the outside arena before

Apparently Alice in Borderland is similar has anyone tried it? Does it have dubbing? On the whole I prefer that over having to read subtitles? Though I thought I was going to have to mute this after the first episode as the main character voice was really annoying but I got used to it as the show went on

why the red hair at the end? Dont understand it?

Decent show, although not all that great as was hyped

Would have preferred it if Sae-byeok won the whole thing, and then after helping out his mother and brother, gave the remaining half to 456's mother.

It's a 1 season show, no idea why they want to stretch it

Thirded. Have just watched that ep and their acting was truly bizarre. Must have been deliberate (although not sure why, it sounded shit).

I thought it kind of worked. But yeh, certainly an interesting angle to go for.

For non-English speakers who grew up watching American movies with subtitles, it's really puzzling to see so many English speakers preferring dubbing. I knew they did it in Germany but Germans have their quirks. I don't get how a grown-up person can watch a dubbed film or series and take it the least bit serious.

Anyway, binged this over three days. I thought it ended up as a very strong show, 8/10. Was on the fence early one because it's really not my genre and I find the whole premise a bit off-putting but there was some great characters and a brilliant production design.

Dubbing is dreadful when lips aren't synched to speech i can't watch anything.

Finished this today it was decent until near the end, which was way anti climatic.

Yeah I never really understand it. Subtitles are so easy to read. In fact your eyes are naturally drawn to them. I find even if the audio is English I’ll end up reading the subs subconsciously.

Plus another voice actor can never replicate exactly how the original actor is speaking. It’s like mashing two films together.

Yeah and they've added them as the games went on, a visual chronicle of sorts (or a cruel reminder of the past traumas).

I don't get it either. I felt that reading the subtitles and seeing how the actors reacted in this were ruined by the jarring dub which consistently sounded nothing close to what you'd expect the situation to need.

Ah did they add them as it went on? I thought maybe they had them up there as a clue but they were hidden by the beds/ players didn't notice, however I can't be sure of that, they did have the squid one up before the last game

I've started Alice in Borderland, one episode in and am enjoying it so far, feels like too small a sample of players when I've just watched one with over 400!

It's not only the VIPs, it was also the front man when he spoke English. Cant see it as anything else than being deliberate.

I watched it over two days, i thought it was awesome, and certainly much better after i turned the god awful english dubbing off. VIPs definitely annoyed me with the utter shite script and acting, it felt so amateur. Episode 6 was amazing and i liked the ending, even though if did confuse me a little. Hope season 2 is better but..
I'd miss the girl not being in it, i wanted her to win.

Tried watching this but I can't stand dubbing so not sure if I will be able to. It's got so much buzz though so might try and bear it

There's this thing called subtitles.

Yeh turn the english dubs off mate and just have subtitles. Its better.

I am finished watching it.

So much blood but its very well done, the fecker who dreamt this up needs help, that high platform tug of war game is mental
