I like the look of the Belgium striker, Wesley Sonck - he looks very good for 23 and plays for a crap club (KRC GENK) - possible Summer move for an English club.

I was also impressed with the Senegal national hero - Henri Camara. Looks pretty good, anyone know more about him?

Some guy called Duf was ok. Ronaldo too.

Got a look at Jorge Andrade, the Portugese CB linked with us a few times. Didnt look too good, no better than Brown, but it was only one appearance as sub.

Oh and Cisse looked impressive but didnt get enough time to shine.

Don't think Cisse was expected to make many waves at this WC with Trezeguet / Henry / Wiltord ahead of him. There's a whole lot more to come from him. The Belgium CB, Van Buyten, was linked to us a few times. Looks like he's signed for Juve and on the basis of this WC, I'd say he looks alright.

Inamoto.

Papa Bouba Diop. Solid defensive midfielder with a pecnchant for getting into great positions to finish off moves. Is a good creator as well.

Rafael Marquez. But todays red card and antcs were hopfully a one off.

Santa Cruz. Bayern have really turned him into something special.

Joephs Yobo. The most impressive fullbakc cum centrback in the tournament. Solid at the back and huis crossing going forward was great but often put to waste by the Nigerian's.

Aghwahowa and Ikedia. Bothhese Nigerian fotrwards were under utilised by the coach tactically and practically. :)

Mellberg played well.

Coly, Senegal RB looks sturdy.

Paul Scholes

Cisse threatened but never got going.

The right back for Tunisia was simply excellent in all the matches he played in ...dont remember his name, but I think he plays for Ajax. Similar to Thuram at RB IMO.

Brasil's best player-Ronaldinho
Cisse was like Forlan, so not him.
Coley
Butt
Sinclair

Poborsky ;)

No seriously though. I reckon the performances of Scholes and Butt have to be sending a signal to SAF about whether he really needs Seba in the frame at all. And my boys Duff and Finnan have been absolute stars IMO.

Butt is definitely excellent, but Scholes is far from his best. He is completely outshone by not only Butt but also Sinclair.

Duff is also very impressive. But in case of Finnan... I'd rather choose the RB of Senegal (Is he called Coly?).

Yep, the RB at Senegal looks quite good (Coly?) And that Diop-guy also at Senegal (the new Viera some said..)

 IMO Scholes and Butt have been England's second best players, after Rio

Puyol didnt look to bad either did he? If he came here I wouldnt complain.

I reckon Fergie knows Scholes, Butt, Beckham better than anyone else already and learned nothing new. He probably knows enough about Veron to know whether to sell or keep him by now.

Puyol has no pace and look what Kilbane did to him even playing crap! <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

PAPE BOUBA DIOP is very impressive.......solid and knows where to be at the right time, what about EL HADJ DIOUF????He could be turned into a super player by UNITED

Mexican central defender MARQUEZ! Simply supreb. would not cost so much like nesta and would be great!!!1

its toly and iam too impressed with him. certainly one gd performer for senegal

I thought Puyol eliminated Kilbane from the game. Guess I was a little distracted.

That Korean guy was good wasnt he? The one who scored the Golden Goal. I'm impressed with Korea, they played incredibly well! If they win the WC I get £50 from Mcdonalds!

I think we should have a close look at Sonck, loosk very good, could be our next Ole considering he is cheap and unknown til now.

Anyone know any more about him? Pace? Skill? etc

You mean the Liverpool new signing EL HADJ DIOUF? Nah he sucks.

Tunisia's fullback linked to Man Utd - different name though...you sure you meant the other guy?

<a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/english/football/teams/m/man_utd/newsid_2051000/2051867.stm" target="_blank">http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/english/football/teams/m/man_utd/newsid_2051000/2051867.stm</a>

That guy the Arse are getting rid off Junichi Inamito or what ever his name is

Sonkc is rated as Belgiums answer to Van Nistelrooy imo! :)

Yes, possibly the best defender in the WC.

Hardly put a foot wrong in all Mexico's matches.

Looks assured, believe he is the only mexican not playing in Mexico, he plays with Monico I think.

He dosen't lack anything physically, didn't see him get beaten at all. Plays for Lens I think?

Yup ..I definately meant Hatem Trabelsi. BBC must have seen my brilliantly intuitive post and guessed the wrong fullback ! :D But seriously, both defensively and in an attacking sense, I havent seen a better rightback in the WC. Coly in second place !

Dunno, haven't seen enough of Tunisia. We're well covered at RB though. ;)

United could get some great players for a low price after wc if they scout right.

Yes, I do remember a certain Gary "who hates scousers" hence the wink - but dont think we have quality cover in reserve at RB - anyways, I think he will do well for a bigger club than Ajax

Well we have P Nev. and Wes, which I think is more than enough as RB wasn't our biggest problem last year, nor do I expect it will be this season. We should spend our money on positions that need strengthening most, and the RB spot isn't it. ;)

jedi lchk......that's bloody rubbish and you know it....come on the bloke has one good game and suddenly he's the messiah for defensive frailities......ohh please, understand the depth of our defensive problems you must eh......we need a leader at the back.....and bloody hell, there are much better defenders in the WC eh, Rio, Nesta and Paolo Maldini to name a few....and I absolutely cannot believe some idiots saying Lucio is an excellent defender <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> .....

I am limiting this comparison amongst defenders to the World Cup only.

I have watched all the WC matches and this mexican bloke has stood out and IMO has performed better than Nesta, Rio and the rest of the star-studded cast of the so-called "big" countries.

Using your line of argument, Vieira is better than Butt since he's considered a "world class" player. The reality of the WC shows otherwise.

So let's just confine this to the WC only, okay?

One more thing, mr yoda, this is just about spotting a good player or two at the WC - no way did I ever mention that they should be snapped up as our defensive messiahs
