Spot fixing - IPL

Anybody saw Malinga's last over right now?
Hmm..

I honestly burst out laughing as I watched that. Hilarious stuff:lol:

If you want to check out some hilarious stuff read this.

Gurunath Meiyappan is the man who has been arrested for his links with fixers. He was also involved in CSK(I'll get to that later). Today the CSK released a statement saying this

"Meiyappan is neither owner, nor CEO or Team Principal of IPL Franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK)," India Cements Executive President T S Raghupathy said in a statement.

Fair enough but then look at this screenshots.

All of them taken from CSK's official website. Btw all of these articles have since been removed from the website. Then there were this changes made to Gurunath Meiyappan's twitter account today.

and then finally this

CSK

How the feck are the rajasthan royals still in this tournament? Shouldn't teams be banned for players spot fixing? where do we draw the line? 10 players?

what can Royals do if their players spot fix?

Should Indian team be banned because of what Azhar did?

It was set up to make a bit of cash for the ECB and counties. I suspect they didn't think it was going spread like cancer. I've got a better idea, how about 5/5 cricket, or even better, a coin tossing WC? We could have an entire tournament completed in 15 mins.

It was set up by the ECB to get more youngsters watching and involved in cricket. They came up with it when English cricket was in dire straits. It's still not all hunky dory, but there seems to be a much better balance between the shorter and longer forms of cricket in the UK than in India.

Aye I presume they also involved Allen Stanford to get more youngsters watching the game.

Eh? What has Allen Stanford got to do with the introduction of 20/20 by the ECB?
The ECB introduced 20/20 in 2003 to do something about English crickets dwindling popularity amongst young people and the decreasing attendance's and sponsorship. (The ironic thing is that a year after it was introduced, England won the Ashes for the first time in what seemed like a 1,000 years, which had a far greater and longer lasting effect to crickets popularity in the UK than 20/20 cricket.)
IMO 20/20 is a good idea, fun, a money spinner and is bound to get youngsters interested in cricket. But it shouldn't come at a cost to the longer forms of cricket. It's about getting the balance right.
As for the spot fixers, cricket will always be vulnerable due to the nature of the game. But I think we should be careful in blaming 20/20 cricket or certain countries, etc. The past teaches us that it could happen anywhere by anyone. The best way to deal with it is handout tougher sentences (i.e. life bans and criminal persecution by the authorities) and do more to educate young players.

CSK's owner arrested. Good.

Perhaps and maybe this rot would've stopped.

If this is the tip of the iceberg, which i think it is, then we could easily have 4-5 players on each team spot fixing..

That makes no sense at all.

Rajasthan, or any other franchise, has the player within their setup for 40 days a year. They can be ensnared by bookies at any point of the year.

It should be the role of the ICC, BCCI and IPL to have proper anti-corruption measures in place.

All 3 have failed in that respect.

Yup.

By that logic if a politician is found guilty of corruption, then the whole party should go with him.

Some journalists are mentioning a very big name in connection with the spot fixing issue.

The link being made is that Guru Meiyappan was introduced to Vindoo Dara Singh by Arun Pandey, who is the agent of..

I don't believe it, though.

Looks like Srini is set to go. Good riddance.

Hope so.

Even though I like T20 and watch the county competition, I hate the IPL.

T20 can be fun if it is set as a novelty event but I think these days we are inundated with T20 cricket. I'll watch the T20 world cup as it is a bit of fun and a short sharp tournament. I almost never watch any other T20 games. Too much brainless cricket.

Guru Meiyappan held on charges of match fixing.

Glad CSK are losing.

Dhoni hiding away in a tough situation as usual. Coming in at #7.

Okay, that was top quality commentary from Sachin.

Shastri appointed as one of the members in a 3 member 'probe committee'. This is getting beyond ridiculous now.

Srinivasan taking the piss.

He runs everything.
