Spot fixing - IPL

Such a difficult thing to stop, hope its not true.

I doubt they would've been arrested/detained if it wasn't. There's apparently records of conversations and transactions.

Such a shame, but not surprising in the least. i would've been surprised if there wasn't any fixing going on, to be honest.

What a shame. Sreesanth is just a waste of a talent. First, his behaviour issues, and now this. He had the potential to be a world class bowler if only he utilised his talent.

Damning evidence released. If Dawood's gang is behind this as suggested, you have to wonder what option the players had in any case.

Solid evidence released. Looks like Sreesanth's mate was the main instigator.

Also am I the only one who found it laughable that somebody actually paid Sreesanth to underperform.

Honestly don't understand Sreesanth, he's an international cricketer who's probably earning millions in IPL. Utterly cnutish.

I've always thought they'd be some fixing in the IPL. However, I expected unknown players to be involved, not someone who has had an international career and probably made decent money.

Is anyone surprised? This has been going on for years.

Surprised that nobody found any evidence for RP Singh and that last ball no ball in the match against CSK.

First 3 seasons, he got $800k/season. Next 3 seasons, $400k/season.

Why does he go and do this for $80k?

Seems like it's just someone out for the thrill.

Was very surprised when I heard about this.

How does a guy who played along side the likes of Dravid, Sachin, Kumble, Ganguly go and do this?

Even Chandila and Chavan were reasonably well known players in IPL/ranji trophy.

Anyone got any links to videos of the three overs where the spotfixing is alleged to have happened?

Zee news says Chavan named Rahane and Hodge. That will be awful.

Will be devastated if Rahane is also involved.

Yeah, hope Rahane's not involved. There have to be quite a few more players involved though. Inevitable.

It's endemic.

Big chance people investigating this will be just as corrupt, if not more.

Anyone else watching tihs?

Ireland need 5 from 1 ball against Pakistan..

Match tied.

I am watching on a feed in which, I think, the commentators are Irish.

They thought Ireland lost cuz they got one less than the target.

Harsh on Ireland. Never understood this DL method. It's a big tough for Ireland, scoring more than they have conceded, and still failing to win by a run.

If he's involved in spot fixing that's a much bigger problem for the ICC than having just players involved. I think this is another reason to have DRS imposed everywhere (feck you BCCI). I don't think an umpire can spot-fix if DRS is available to a side.

Not that it matters if he's done something wrong, but Rauf's a good umpire.

Seen on at least two different occasions where rauf has called a non existent no ball.

Started paying attention to it when Lawrence Booth, the wisden editor, tweeted about it.

Logic is that match was shortened after pakistans innings was underway. Meaning they would've played faster if they'd known earlier about the less number of overs.

It makes sense but I don't know about how fair the normalization is.

Wow, didn't see this! From April 13th: It's bizarre how many no-balls Asad Rauf has wrongly called during his career...

Sounds like he suspected something.

The game is in such a mess, apparently people related to the BCCI chief are involved too. I loved the old game, was a fantastic summer sport, it didn't have pretensions to be global nor did it have aspirations to be a kin to baseball. I loved listening to Jonners and Blowers on test match special, especially winter tours of the Windies. Yeah yeah nostalgia, but come on... 20/20 and the IPL? How's that improved the game, how's that taken the game global? The same folk watch 20/20 cricket instead of following Test cricket they're just hooked to a newer shorter format. I wouldn't have had a problem had the new format taken the game to a wider audience, but it hasn't. The game is all about making loads of money and it's full of corrupt individuals. Give me the old game...a sport that knew its place.

fecking ECB and their obsession with creating a shorter format has ended up ruining Cricket.

It was set up to make a bit of cash for the ECB and counties. I suspect they didn't think it was going spread like cancer. I've got a better idea, how about 5/5 cricket, or even better, a coin tossing WC? We could have an entire tournament completed in 15 mins.

It was tongue in cheek.

I've no problems with IPL but I think that there is a need a serious need to get rid of cnuts like N.Srinivasan, Rajeev Shukla from BCCI.

This is from Srinivasan's own son.

Great point from Spoony.about how T20 was supposed to spread the game, but is now just a tool for greedy cnuts.

 didn't know this.

I'm enjoying CSK becoming a laughing stock.

The franchise itself is alright, but the fans are unbearable.

The fans are ok. I've a problem with the owner.

The old charm is gone once the sport became globalized. At first it was about getting enough money to make a career out of it. Now its more than that.
T20 wouldn't create a nostalgia of Tests or even ODI tournaments but It should atleast have been able to quicken the game's exposure to wide territory. not sure if it has.

Thing is, it's not a globalised sport, 20/20 hasn't changed anything in that respect, which is a shame because I think I would've stomached change had it created wider interest - a new audience. Basically, we've got the same nations making more money out of the game, India due to its population has become a behemoth, but that would've been the case had 20/20 not existed. At least we wouldn't have had this bastardisation of the game. Basically, I'm all for change, I'm all for the game developing interest further afield, but that doesn't seem to be possible. Which is why I'd rather have the game back the way it was. Would've been great to see Brazil or Germany take up the game, instead we've still got an insular game that happens to make some people very rich. Oh well.
