Sports Personality Of The Year

A jockey would not stand a chance in the ring against Manny Pacman, hence he can not be described as a sportsman.

Oh look, a man who rides on and hits a horse with a stick while it runs really fast wins SPORTS personality of the year.

 He's ridden over three thousand winners, and been jump jockey of the year 13 years in a row.

Haye? Until he actually fights a proper heavyweight he deserves feck all.

So give him the jockey of the year award.

I don't think you have any understanding of the sacrifice these guys make, McCoy races at nearly two stone below natural body weight, to hold this weight takes an incredible amount of will power and determination.
He has also suffered 680+ falls and has broken most of the major bones in his body, and his also won 15 championship jockey titles in a row, and the national this year.

He has to fight you.

Or Morpheus.

I was thinking that Valuev, at over 7 feet tall, 300 plus pounds, former WBA champ, was a "proper" heavyweight. Same with John Ruiz, another former WBA champ.

It's hard to fight a proper heavyweight when the only two "proper heavyweights" are very awkward to get into the ring with, well unless you're shit and willing to get a poor share of the money.

You should join us in the boxing thread, Xander. You obviously know what you're talking about. ;)

Some idiotic comments in here. Alot of ignorance towards horse racing generally I find. It very surprising actually.

Im delighted for McCoy. He may get the pick of the rides now but this award is recognition of a lifetime's worth of acheivement by the jockey.

I can see Taylor or Haye winning it next year if they both add to their respective records

Unfortunately, Haye seems adamant that he will retire in October next year. So unless he can squeeze in two fights, and two wins, against the Brothers Fag, I can't see it.

And agreeing to just two fights with the Klits seems unlikely.

If that was in an actual sport, id be impressed.

You know, one that doesn't rely on being light and small.

Give the horses he rode on the sporting award - they are the ones doing the actual work.

Absolutely this.

As an aside, I don't like foxhunting, but I have to raise my hat to their bravery; old feckers, kids, they go out jumping over hedges and things and they do take risks.

Wrong, but fair doo's, they ain't cowards.

So he's fallen off 680+ times and he's still considered the best? Sounds to me like he should hold on tighter.
