Splinter Cell: Conviction

loved the other spliter cells
im not sure i want to get this, i think i might be disapointed as it looks nothing like the older ones?

SC:C does itself no favors by using the black and white too much throughout the game. I'd rather there be a HUD with my concealment/noise stealth displayed then the black and white screen it reverts too.

I'm on the last mission, should have it beat today. My only other issues are the lack of depth in the story, shortness of the game, and the annoying enemies taunting Sam Fisher throughout the levels. Seriously, would you fecking taunt Sam Fisher?!?!

Overall I've enjoyed it, and I can't wait to play through the co-op piece. I heard they totally screwed the multiplayer side of the house. Double Agent's multiplayer was awesome.

Alan Wake developer Remedy has claimed that Alan Wake's resolution runs at 'one 720p image' throughout.

Rumours hit the net that the title would run at a lower resolution after game footage leaked online - something Remedy has moved to condemn.

Remedy development boss Marcus Maki posted on the official Alan Wake forum today in response to the claims.

He wrote:

'Modern renderers don't work by rendering everything to a certain final on-screen resolution, but use a combination of techniques and buffers to compose the final detail-rich frames, optimizing to improve the visual experience and game performance.

'Alan Wake's renderer on the Xbox360 uses about 50 different intermediate render targets in different resolutions, color depths and anti-alias settings for different purposes. These are used for example for cascaded shadow maps from sun & moon, shadow maps from flashlights, flares and street lights, z-prepass, tiled color buffers, light buffers for deferred rendering, vector blur, screen-space ambient occlusion, auto-exposure, HUD, video buffers, menus and so on.

'In the end all are combined to form one 720p image, with all intermediate buffer sizes selected to optimize image quality and GPU performance. All together the render targets take about 80 MB of memory, equivalent in size to over twenty 720p buffers.'

So there you have it. 720p it is.

It has more action/gunplay then the SC of old, because Sam is no longer with Third Echelon. He still has the ability to go all stealth, but the game almost forces you to do a combination of stealth and action. It's paced faster than previous installments as well.

excellent, I may just go out at get it then.

how long is the game play? this will be my first splinter cell game so hopefully I wont be out of the loop too much in the way of storyline.

It depends how good you are at games and what difficulty you set it at.

On realistic, I reckon there's a good 8-10 hours gameplay. Online co-op is where it's at. Absolutely outstanding.

I'm playing it through and I'm not really that impressed. It's very generic, almost like a Hitman Lite as opposed to a Splinter Cell game.

(That said I did complete Double Agent over the weekend and that was fecking mint, so maybe it suffers for the comparison)

I think it feels that way because it's very different from what a SC game has been. Double Agent got mixed reviews, but I loved it. And the multiplayer was different, which I thought was great. It's sad that they didn't do multiplayer with Conviction. Haven't played Co-op yet, but I blew through the campaign in 2 days and haven't even thought about going back through to play again.
